We did the Johnston Canyon evening ice walk with Aaron as our guide. Not only was this walk beautiful and so unique at night, but Aaron was the Cherri on top. He was informative, knowledgeable, fun, and professional! If you are staying in Canmore or Banff and enjoy hikes (this is a small one, not too challenging) and are looking for something new to do while you're in town I would highly recommend this tour. We did the tour in Banff to Lake Moraine and Louise. I loved our driver, he was full of information and very entertaining. Deff recommend this tour if you aren't looking to spend much time there but want about 20-30 minutes per stop. We were not familiar with the area and had the opportunity to stop by banff for a day. Banff is an extraordinary place to visit and this company can definitely help you plan nice excursions. Their brochure stood out. They listed so many fun packages and activities and the prices looked decent. We decided to get the package that included a ticket to the gondola, hot springs, and an hour of horseback riding at Spray River. We did these activities in a day and adults and kids had a great time. Call the number if you have any questions or visit the office downtown and pay. We paid about $90 for each person and it was a good deal. This company stands out in Banff. read more

A great idea to see all of the nice sites and views of Banff and Lake Louise. They have a choice of bus, or van, with possibility of having a meal in advance and stopping at a picnic site to enjoy the moment. But we also had some disappointments. The good: Our original driver (more to come on that), Rob, was good and informative. We stopped at various spots for great view and picture taking (and stretching out our legs). Bus was comfortable. Stopped at a few areas to have time to visit (like Fairmount hotels). They stop when there are animals to view in nature. The bad: Bus broke down (on it's second run since they purchased it) and ended up with the uncomfortable van after 30 minutes or so of waiting (but they did refund the difference). Going up to Banff was a real tour, with information said by our driver, but second part was "just a drive", felt long and very quiet (worst on the way back). We changed driver from Banff back to Calgary, she barely spoke english (guess she was more for the Chinese tourists). Meals were good but overcharged. We had to ask for our cookies on the way back instead of being offered to us (read other reviews). First bus, some seats had cookie crumbs on them (a clean bus would have been nice). Before booking: They offered us a quote on the price for a bus for the tour, but did not check if a bus was available for that day for a tour. So basically, we were working out the details as a family in the end, not knowing if there was a bus for us. At least check and warn us if there is a bus available and give us a deadline to confirm instead. In the end, if you do not want to drive to Banff and Lake Louise but still want to view the sites, this is a good option. But this tour felt more like a "chauffeur service" than an actual tour. read more

I didnt have any quarrels at all with the tour that I booked. Me and my girlfriend booked a tour up to Lake Louise and expected just a bus ride to the lake and back, we got much more. Our tour guide, Ali, took us on a scenic route and was very knowledgeable about Banff and its surroundings. She was also really hilarious, pretty standard coming from a fellow South Aussie (you'll find most hospo workers are Australian). We did the Columbia Icefields excursion and Skywalk. It was an overall miserable experience apart from the incredible drive up which is totally worthwhile. We got there around 1:30/2 for a 3pm tour. We were hungry - the restaurant was empty but they said "it's only for tours". We went to the canteen which was a frenzy of people... it was difficult even to see where the line was forming. Already frustrated by the trouble parking and 40 minute wait to get a fried veggie burger... we got in line for the excursion. We waited in line for 35/40 minutes with no one giving us any indication of timing or what was happening. We were then loaded on a bus for a 4 minute ride to another impressive snow bus... for another 5-7 min drive to a 100x50 foot ice patch you get to stand on for 25/30 mins with about 100-150 other people. Even with less people - for the money it's a pretty unimpressive experience. I'd rather have taken my time driving up and checking out the viewpoints... then walk up to the glacier or get a real hiking tour if you are adventurous. Skywalk - don't get me started. Not worth the 20-30 minute wait in whatever weather you have to get back. read more

Do not use this company! The location is difficult to find and then if you are just a few minutes late they will not let you go on your pre-paid ride. They are incredibly rude and nasty when you try to discuss with them or get a refund. They also will refuse to reschedule you. I loved all three tours that I did with Discover Banff! (Marble Canyon Snowshoe, Nighttime Ice Walk, and Lake Louise Tour). Easy pick up and drop off, the guides were SO informative, and it was the perfect amount of time for each one. We didn't bring a car to Banff, so everything was really convenient. Marble Canyon was my favorite. It was so stunningly beautiful in the snow. Got some great shots of the mountains! Hugh, Jeff, and Denise were our guides and were all fabulous. read more

This is a great guiding company. They can hook you up with dog sledding, snow shoeing and even ice walks in the winter time. Super user friendly and worth the $. The guides are uber hands on and really want you to have a good time. Plus, they pick you up and shuttle you back to your lodging. This was a so so tour that really was not what they advertised and committed to. The website stated that this day long tour would go to: Lake Louise - 20 min Crowfoot Glacier - 10 min Peyto Lake - 25 min Saskatchewan Crossing - 10 min Coleman picnic area - 30 min Columbia ice field - 2 hours Bow Lake - 20 min We were able to choose our pick-up spot, but not knowing the area, we chose a public parking lot as it seemed reasonable. I asked it that was best and was told, absolutely because the other stops were hotels and would not have the parking. When we got to the parking lot, it had a 3 hour max limit and this trip was 8 hours. I called again and they said, oh this is just the pickup spot. You need to find your own parking that's longer. Um, what? So, I left the family and went in search of regular parking. Found some and then headed back to the parking lot to wait for our 9:15am pickup. At 9:35, our bus finally arrive. We all boarded and then at 20+ min late, we were off. Having the itinerary and additional printout from the website, I believed we were going to visit what they said: Lake Louise, Crowfoot glacier, Peyto Lake, Mistaya Canyon, Saskatchewan Crossing, a mountain picnic, Cirrus Mountain, Bridal Veil Falls, the Columbia Ice fields and finally Bow Lake. I thought it was going to be worth the wait. I was wrong. Here is what we received: Pick up at the start - 20 min lake Lake Louise - 15 and hurry, we need to make up time Crowfoot Glacier - 4 min photo op on the side of the road Stuck in construction for 40 min Lunch in the van to make up time lost in construction Columbia ice fields - 2 hours - it was very cool but when we were done with the excursion, they would not let us take a shuttle back to the center, but rather ordered us to get on the bus to the ice walk - even though we did not have tickets. They told us, we can't have you just sitting around waiting for the next bus to come to take you to the center. This wasted 15 extra min of time we didn't have. We then got in the bus and headed back. We did 2 quick stops on the way back Peyto Lake - 15 or less because we were already behind on time Bow lake - 2 min stop for a picture Then we headed back to Banff to be dropped off. We never got to stop and see Saskatchewan Crossing, Cirrus mountain, Bridal Veil Falls, Bow Lake area, Mistaya Canyon. The Icefield excursion was interesting, but that was only a portion of the cost. I feel we were not given what was promised from this trip, and I wish now that we would have just done it on our own. We missed so much and it cost our family a lot to not see the things we expected to see. I would recommend doing the drive on your own or finding a different tour to take. read more

Did grizzly tour mostly bc we were staying at lake Louise rather than banff and did NOT wanna drive back to the insanity of banff. This was one if the few tours that had pick up in lake Louise. Small bus picked us up at Samson mall, 20 min late but whatever it's vacay. Ronni our tour guide was super energetic and kept it up the entire day. She was a careful driver and we got to go all around. There was more driving than i thought so only had 20 min at each stop cept for Boo the grizzly bears reserve which was AWESOME. Boo was active lumbering around sat in his pool scratched his butt and back. Learned a lot. The tour time includes bus driving time back to banff so day ends at 4:30 really. Little pricey at 170 per person but long day. Good way to see area if u don't wanna drive. Lunch was surprisingly yummy - thought sandwich meant wonder bread in a bag but was yummy at a nice restaurant w cream puff dessert. read more

They were very nice but did not have a lot of information when we were acquiring about heliskiing. The ladies were not very knowledgeable about their products. Once booked it was extremely difficult to receive a refund. After several attempts, I finally received a refund on the product which we were unable to use. read more

In early august at the height of the tourist season we chose to take a tour instead of driving ourselves to lake Louise from banff. We were very happy with our tour and the guide. We were driven past all the cars parked on the side of the road, which was a huge plus. We had plenty of time to walk around and see things. The guide was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot from him about the history of the area. We did the half day tour and it was perfect amount of time. read more

During a convention at the Fairmont Banff Springs, we only had one day for a tour. Signed up for the Deluxe Lake Louise 3:30 pm tour by the hotel concierge recommendation. About 3 hours prior to the leave staff left message in our room that tour has been canceled due to not enough reservations. Very upset because had they call us on cell phone while we were out that morning, or warn us the night before we could had made other plans. Just check when making reservations of probability of cancellation due to reservations. Hotel staff went beyond their duties to try to safe the afternoon, and were able to get us to a local lake so we would have something to do. Very appreciative of their efforts. read more

Went on the Johnston Canyon Ice Walk with Discover Banff as we saw a voucher on Travelzoo and thought it was an awesome deal. The tour started a bit late but we were optimistic seeing as it was pretty full tour. Our guide Becky was awesome; she knew a lot about the area and really seemed like she had a passion for what she was doing. She took her time telling stories and making sure everyone got a good look (and good pictures) of all the sights. I could not recommend Discover Banff more and would definitely do another tour with them the next time I'm in Banff. read more

Lake Louise tour sucks. Guide only talked about hotel buildings but not the lake. And other tours I booked ran into this situation: I paid TWICE but never got the tour and they rejected to refund or sequence me in to another tour. First time they said they already tried calling me in the hostel (i did NOT get confirmation email so I don't know if it's still on) anyway I was in the hostel. But they couldn't find me because they mixed up my last name. Second time they mixed up my hostel name, went to a wrong spot to pick me up while I waited 45 min in front of my hotel. No refund. No The. No apology. CAD$176 is gone and two days of my holiday is ruined. Discover Banff is really the worst you can get. Never purchase service via this company. read more

We booked multiple excursions through this group in advance of our trip to Banff. We had a 12 person group. We arrived at one particular excursion early and instead of being welcomed with kindness and respect we got rudeness and no accommodation. We were turned away without being able to go on the excursion because they claimed we were "late" when in fact we were early. We were one of the later excursions in the day. While I was there it appeared to me that the staff wanted to go home and was trying at all costs to avoid any accommodations for us on the 3 hour excursion. They had a "phone call" with Discovery Banff Tours to act like they were doing something but the excursion and Discovery Banff Tours in reality did nothing to assist. Instead they took our $1,800.00!!! and provided no excursion and no reimbursement. read more

Companies website has wrong time for fall horse back rides and company refuses to give a refund because the manager is in Europe. So the company is happy to take your money but they can't (refuse?) to take care of any problems (that they caused in the first place). A month later, the website still has the wrong time. Don't blame your issues on your customers and don't take money if no one is around who can refund it. Also, these guys don't actually conduct any tours, they are just middle men. So if something goes wrong the outfitter blames them and they blame the outfitter. read more

My daughter (8) a guest from Spain who we took to Banff (22) and I (40-ish but really don't look a day over 38) experienced the Discover Banff tour on 1/14/15 via a snowshoe tour of Marble Canyon. The natural beauty of the area was outstanding enough to give this a 5 star review but what I particularly appreciated were the guides, Emma and Angus. Emma who is an experienced guide was unbelievably knowledgable. We learned about the area, the climate, why it snows more in that region than other areas of Banff, the geography, the history (the first trappers which resulted in a really fun trip to the Hudson Bay dept store which I would have not known about), how Banff National Park was established, an overview of the TransCanadian Highway, the history of snowshoes, the crazy endeavors that Canadians explore (ice climbing - a sport I will never, ever, ever attempt but I don't judge...), and finally, an incredibly informative discourse on the amazing, slightly unbelievable natural instincts of the Beaver. I really hope she was not exaggerating about the Beaver as I have shared that with a lot of people since our return to Texas. In short: my 8 year old, our foreign guest, and I all learned an incredible amount and really enjoyed the information which was just enough to help us get a great sense of the region and told in a very amusing, fun way. I would highly recommend anyone who wants a great tour but more important a great connection and understanding of the area take this tour. It truly is for all ages, all activity levels. I hope to go again in the future. read more
