This review is for the corporate office. Generally, I love this credit card company. 5-20% cash back for select online merchants and 5% cash back promotions every quarter. One quarter is usually restaurants, another hotels, another gas, etc. Also, 0% international transaction fees, but good lucking finding places overseas that accept Discover. My only knock is the length of time it takes to get your cash back and all the loopholes you have to jump through to get your cash back. 6-8 weeks wait at times for the cash back to reflect in your account, and before you make the online purchases with the participating merchants you have to log in to your Discover account first and link to the merchant's web page before you make the purchase. Otherwise, you may not get the cash back by going directly to the participating merchant's website. Kind of a nuisance, but worth the hassle if you ask me. read more

I've been jumping through hoops trying to change address on online banking account. After providing front and back of id and 2 selfies, had to submit notarized form. Everything was done and faxed to them, but was denied as they called notary and weren't able to reach her. I called notary and spoke to her. Called Discover and asked if they could call her as she was there. Nope, someone from their team would have to reach out. Asked if I could speak to someone from that team . Nope. I was told to wait 48 hours and they would try to call notary. Unresolved. Today, I was attempting to make a major purchase for my home. I had just finished transferring funds from my account to my cash app to handle some bills for my mother who recently passed. While in the establishment to make the purchase, I attempted to transfer more money to cash app only for discover to decline the transfer. I contacted Discover and they basically told me they can pick and choose when they want to deny your transactions with your money in order to protect my account. Pay them a premium to wire funds in the morning and you will be lucky to see funds in your other bank account before end of business hours. Strange how MS/etrade can have funds wired in literally less than 1 minute. If I can ever get my funds out of dis cover bank, they will never go back there. That's a promise. Maybe that's why they are so reluctant to put the wire through. Take note of how all the glossy (like all this banks glossy mailbox stuffing ads that seem to arrive at least once a day) review sites have such high praise for this bank. Deceptive and total lack of transparency! Don't explain what interest saving balance will be, and no way to have payments go to interest accruing balance. Instead, they apply all the payments to the 0% interest balance transfer. No way to pay off the interest accruing purchases other than pay off the entire balance, including the 0% balance transfer. What is the point of a balance transfer unless you buy nothing? Fine, but they need to explain all of this carefully. The card stinks. Notice the difference in number of stars between this and Chase. I have loved Chase, always very clear and transparent. Never had a problem. Also, Discover has an upfront fee for balance transfers which isn't made explicit until the transaction is completed. At the beginning of my application process, I let whoever I spoke with on multiple occasions that my home has no comparable in the city for which I live and whoever Discover set out they would have to pull comps from outside the city. The first person that came out evaluated my home took pictures and left. I called my banker that was assigned to me to check the outcome of the appraisal. I was informed that the appraiser had canceled the contract and said they were unable to appraise my property. She said that they would send out another new appraiser that would do a more detailed appraisal of my home and property I again reinformed her that if they only use the comps in this area and nowhere else it doesn't matter how it appraises if there's nothing to compare it to in this city. I then asked her what Discover appraised it at and she said $695000.     When the new appraiser arrived, he did a very detailed look at my property, and it came in at $510000 well below the target price to get the lone. At this point I am well beyond frustrated and the person I was speaking to said I could appeal the appraisal. I was sent the form and filled it out and returned it promptly. (appeal will be attached below) After about a week I called in to check the status of the appeal and spoke with Erika Cordova I don't have her MLS # -- but she's on my file as to the one I spoke with I again voiced my concerns about the comps and after some time talking back and forth she said bluntly (I'm sorry that no one has told you the hard truth we only use the comps with in the area). She then said did you put all of what you said about your home on your appeal? I said yes and I even put comparable comps without prices sold within the last six months. However, they're 5 minutes down the road in Bridgeport Texas which we share a zip code with. I also told her I received those comps from the mortgager Veterans United Home Loans that gave me the lone on my house and these would be the comps they would use to sell me this house if I was to buy this home again. I then said what's the point of having me fill out this appeal if you're not going to consider the homes, I used on my appeal that are just 5 minutes done the road as comps. I said this is false hope and a complete waste of my time. She says well do you want to continue with your appeal I said of course I do. I said this is a unique situation and should be handled differently and there must be someone we can talk to. She said let's wait for the appeal to go through. End of call.     I cannot sit by and let a perfect deal be sidelined. I'm also upset about the complete waste of time I have gone through up to this point and the false hope I was given. This review is for Discover Bank IRA department in Utah. I had an IRA CD matured in Discover Bank on March 25. On March 1, I sent in a form to transfer the fund to a credit union to catch a promotional CD rate. I called discover bank to confirm the form was filled out and received properly. After calling Discover Bank several times, On Mar. 25, Discover bank notified me via e-mail that a check was sent to the receiving credit union. To this day, The receiving union never received the fund. I called Discover Bank every day. They don't even have a tracking number for the mail because they sent the check via US post office bulk rate. Discover bank chose the slowest, non trackable mail option. I wonder why Discover is so careless? Apr. 6, 2021, I was told the check was returned to Discover Bank. They refused to tell me why the check was returned. Apr. 6, 2021, Natalie of Discover Bank worked with me to upload another form to transfer the fund this time via wiring. She said she expited the request to wiring department. Apr. 12, 2021, the fund still is not in the receiving bank. Matt of Discover Bank told me their security department have not initiated a stop payment on the check returned on Apr. 5th. Discover Bank received the returned check on Apr. 5. Why not initiate the stop payment process on Apr. 5? Why wait for me to call to stop payment? they say they can't wire the fund until the stop payment process is completed. It's been 19 days since my CD matured on March 25. The fund is still not received. What do you think? do you think Discover Bank purposely drag their feet because they don't have money to pay? I had been a customer of Discover Bank for more than 10 years. During that time period I have had multiple accounts and the bank has made a lot of money from me. A couple of days ago I realized that Discover canceled one account that I had with them. When I contacted the bank to inquire I was told that the account was closed by Discover due to lack of activity. The rep told me because the account had not been used since 2019 they decided to close it. She stated that an email was sent to inform me of the action. I don't remember seeing this email and it most likely was sent to me. I feel that before closing an account a customer should be notified by mail or even phone call. It is very easy to miss an email considering I get lots of emails on a daily basis and I don't read them all. I was told that there was nothing to be done about this situation and I would have to reapply for a new card if I wanted to have the account. I thanked her and said I have no intention of applying for another Discover card. I will apply with a different bank and move all of my accounts from Discover. This is a very shitty way to treat a long term customer. I'm sure if I missed a payment there would have been letters and phone calls to get their money!! read more

I had a Discover IRA CD mature Last July. Discover Bank sent a check to my IRA stock account, so I bought 4 different stocks with this money. The Discover check then bounced. I contacted Discover Bank numerous times over the next few weeks to no avail. My stock account after 2 weeks was then required by federal regulations to liquify these stocks and not allow me to make any other stock purchases for a number of weeks. After this, Discover finally sent a replacement check. I also had to work with our state's Attorney General for Discover Bank to reimburse me for the extra expenses their bounce check cost me. Good Morning, I initially contacted Discover Bank on December 10, 2022, regarding a wire transfer request and debit card denial. I received a cash app and selected the delayed cash app option. What I did not realize was that the banking account information was for a Discover Bank account, which is a joint account I share with my son. When I discovered the error, my son attempted to send the money back via cash app. My son made two attempts to cash app me but kept receiving a declined message. At that point we logged on to attempt to Zelle the money to an external account but quickly realized that was not an option. The only other option was to set up a wire transaction. After the wire transaction was completed, I called the same morning and inquired about the debit card denial. I spoke to an account representative who verified my and my son's information. After that was completed we were told that the issue was resolved and that it was no fault on our end. I then inquired about canceling the wire transfer but was told that the office is closed on the weekend, and to call back Monday. I called the wiretap department on December 12, 2022, and was told that the account was on hold and that we did not have access to the money. Now, this is news to me because it is the exact opposite of what I was told on December 10th. The dishonest person that I spoke to indicated that she would transfer me to security to rectify the issue. After, waiting on hold for 56 minutes, I was transferred to the security department. The security department verified my information and my son's information for the third time and we were told that they needed a copy of my son's identification. Now, this account was opened in July 19, 2022, and when I opened the account I was required to submit a notarized document for my son and to send a copy of his identification. However, I was told that this information was not part of his profile. I requested to speak to a manager and was placed on hold for a second time. While I was on hold I called Discover back and asked for a manager. I was transferred to a different department that could not handle my request and the Manager ended up hanging up. This was the second time that the phone miraculously disconnected. When the manager from the security department finally got on the line, I was told that it would take 48 hours to receive the documents that I had previously submitted, and that call disconnected when I inquired about their policies and procedures. The bottom line that Discover bank has consistently utilized illegal and deceptive practices to prevent customers from receiving access to their funds but don't mind accepting the funds once they are deposited. There are countless reviews that describe a similar situation. Discover has not provided one document that was signed that informed customers that they would need to send their identification in every 90 days or their account would be locked. If this is their policy, it should be stated so consumers are fully aware of what may occur if they decide to transfer or withdraw money. I read more

Read about online savings accounts and that interest rates were the best through discover so I opened a joint account with my wife. They made us go through a whole process to get my wife on the account which we gladly did. 2 weeks later she is still not on the account so we call and everyone is extremely nice and tell us they will call back in 5 mins. They never called back. We call back the next day and next day and they tell us to call back in another week it may be still processing. We call back in another week and they say we don't know why its not processing let me put you over to another department. Again no reasoning but they say call back Monday they promise it will be resolved. It was not resolved and they say they will call back the next day. They never did. We call again a week later and finally someone gives us information that its now been too long since we submitted the documents and they are not showing so we need to submit again and call back once they are submitted. Should be resolved 2 days after. We call they confirm they got the documents and say it will be 2 days. Another week has gone by still not posting my wife as an account holder and still no communication as to why. 2 and a half months. It's ridiculous that this would even be an issue let alone 2 and a half month issue. I will never trust this bank for anything again and advise anyone to avoid their online banking altogether even if the interest rates look good. read more

Discover owes my deceased spouse a balance of $97. They refuse to make the check out in my name, and my bank won't take accept the check in someone else's name. I sent the check back to Discover but never heard back from them. I finally called them. Discover requires specific paperwork to even LOOK INTO options to resolve this, and the time / effort far exceeds what it's worth. I have been a customer of Discover Bank for over 5 years. I have both IRA CD's as well as retail CD's. I am a senior citizen and live off my interest. For the last 5 years, Discover Bank would deposit the monthly interest for my IRA CD's into my external bank's checking account. One of my IRA CD's came due in September 2022. I renewed this IRA CD for a number of years. Then, last week I received a letter stating that Discover Bank would no longer be electronically sending my monthly interest to my external bank's checking account. If I had known this a few weeks ago, I would have never renewed my CD. Discover personnel never informed me that things were changing when I renewed my CD. The options presented to me involve ME TO DO SOMETHING EVERY MONTH! I feel I that Discover Bank withholding information from a senior citizen is not only a deceptive practice but could be considered senior abuse. I have a checking account at Wells Fargo and a credit card and savings at Discover. The differences are striking at this time of COVID 19. The Wells Fargo website says call response time will be delayed, and sure enough it took about a half hour, whereas Discover took less than a minute to answer my call. I sent a secure message to WF and they took more than a week to respond. I wanted to name a beneficiary on my WF account and they said I had to come in person to my local branch, "for security reasons!" I reminded them about the lock down order and they said 'sorry, that is our rule.' I was not sick, but what if I had been? Somehow WF thinks having this physical location and forcing you to use it is providing service. By contrast the Discover website asks what they can do to help. This review is for the Discover online banking services only. I opened the online savings account with the $200 promotional bonus. I met all the requirements for receiving the bonus. I called several times to talk to Discover bank's supervisors and I was assured the bouns would be credited to my account by a certain date. However, the bonus was not deposited to my account on the date it was promised. When I called back to inquired the issue, I was told that it was a system issue and they needed to put in a request to have marketing folks to investigate the system errors. I thought it couldn't be that bad, I have the credit card, so I opened a checking and savings. Free checks, 10 cents back per debit transaction, savings has good interest. I thought I'd give it a try. But this bank is the slowest ever. I tried ally, I tried capital one 360, both were much faster, and I thought they were slow before I tried discover. Discover bank will wait a full day to even initiate a transfer you request, they'll hold your funds for a full week, and they won't show you an updated transaction history in their mobile app, so you never know what your current balance actually is. It's absolutely unusable. If you call to ask why, you will realize that the reps are young, inexperienced, and trained to make excuses for these delays by blaming other parties involved in the transfer. Oh, and want to see your recent transactions during the weekend? Too bad, they are only updated Monday-Friday. What a joke! This is really a pathetic excuse for an online bank. My local credit union can show me transaction history up to the second in their mobile app, but an online bank can't? I withdrew $200 from an ATM over 24 hours ago now, and it's still not showing in my transactions in the discover app. Lol wow. Do not do it!! Here are some examples of the kinds of responses you will get from customer service if you complain about their insane hold times and other problems: "At this time, the weekend causes a delay with posting transactions. Please allow till Monday morning at 8am eastern for this to reflect online. Rest assured that your available balance is updated and accurate. I apologize about any inconvenience this may have caused." ,,, "We do have a processor we go through for electronic fund transfer. Although some banks may not use a processing company as we do, all banks must send their transfers through the FED per federal regulations. Some banks choose to give you what is called a good faith credit. They credit your account for the transfer before it has actually completed and deal with the consequences if the transfer ends up failing. At Discover Bank we have chosen not to assume that risk. We give you a good faith credit for incoming deposits so you may earn interest (if applicable) but we do not allow the funds to be withdrawn until we have confirmed receipt of your funds from the FED. I go in there with the sake check they have cashed multiple times and wait in line for 20 minutes just to be told that they wouldnt cash without the other person who was named on the check also being there.
