I consider myself apart of the Young Adults, YA, as a freshly turned 23 year old. As a 23 year old, I'm looking for guidance. I've been to Discovery a few times for YA on first Fridays. This last time I felt discriminated against. It's sad whenever you have to register in order to get in. A church member tells you pretty much that your age group is no longer welcome. I was wondering why Discovery YA seemed a bit more empty. and you don't feel the same atmosphere that was welcoming as before. Now I see why my regular church's Young adults is growing. I hope this issue is resolved. The 23-25 year olds are not being welcome anymore. People look to see what to do on Fridays. last time I will be at discovery. read more

I think we were discouraged after attending 3 times in a row and the 1st thing brought up was to give your money to them (I felt like we were being scolded)! We decided to research... Lead pastor lives in an expensive 5 bedroom (you can look this up yourself), Lead singer (expensive home), etc. Where is all the money going because last year they reached over $6 million (all from tithings)! They're expense on staffing is over $1 million, amongst other things (you can find these numbers on their own church web site )! We prayed about it and the Lord is telling us to give 10% of what we earn to the poor (which is his people & his church)! This is what were doing! Food, clothing, bibles, paying for a night at a hotel (for shelter), etc and handing it out to those in desperate need! Maybe this will encourage others to do the same and join in the discipling on the streets, among the poor, who desperately need it, and need to read the word of the lord! Something just doesn't feel right and PLEASE don't go off what I say, pray about it, and DO what the Lord Jesus Christ almighty tells you and calls you to do! Amen All glory to God the king of kings! *In no way shape or form is this or I promoting violence because all these things are public, just mentioning research before making decisions we all need to pray on! God knows our hearts & intentions!* Did you know about over $1.5 Trillion is given to non profits per year (Per Nathan Apffel (check out his interview on the Shawn Ryan show)... it's an eye opener of truth per the Bible & what God tells us, also what the book of Paul tells us)! Where is all that money going? Because they technically don't have to tell us where it's "exactly going"! Churches are considered businesses! What happened when Jesus showed up to the temple and saw the people making money off God? There's a reason for that and what it has become today! Give to a fellow brother in need! Music is great, but I have a general rule that if a pastor says something transphobic or homophobic, I'm done, and the only two times I went he has done both, so that tells me it must be a pretty frequent thing. Main pastor is actually a pretty skilled grifter, doing a great job at creating his own massive cult. Right now their weekly topic is on "identity", in which the pastor basically tells you if you don't make your whole identity about "Jesus" you are following Satan. Translation: "don't think for yourself, let me do your thinking for you, give me money, and do everything I tell you to do because I speak for god". Pretty obvious to me. Sad to see literally hundreds of people falling for it. Like I said though, music is great. If you go I suggest leaving once the music is done. Pastor is a predator. read more

I went for Mother's Day (my first Mother's Day with a new born) and during the service was told to ask someone in my row to give up their seat because I had my stroller and apparently it was in the way. So I decided to leave instead, as I walked out I passed about 8-10 strollers nine of which were being asked to move or leave or anything at all. I felt very discriminated, I will never forget that being since it was my FIRST Mother's Day. This place obviously picks and chooses who can be there and worship the lord in peace. read more

No, absolutely not. I've been trying to find a good church here in Bakersfield, since my church is all the way in Tehachapi. This church is huge! When I walked in, it was like a concert, I'm not a fan of it, but the message that was given by the pastor that day, was judgmental, wasn't talking about Gods Message, it was more about politics and I wanted to leave but I was invited and I didn't want to be rude. But I wouldn't be there again. read more

Absolutely the most welcoming, nonjudgmental, inspiring, loving church I've been to in many years. I'm new to Bakersfield and tried other churches before Discovery but they weren't for me. At the first service I attended at Discovery, I knew I was "home". The Pastor is amazing, caring and very knowledgeable. He speaks to everyone, welcoming new churchgoers, no matter what they may be going through. It's a journey into a relationship with the Lord for people striving to walk with Jesus. The community of Christians at Discovery do not judge newcomers no matter what kind of struggles they may be going through, but instead welcome them right where they are. They lift each other up and will pray for you if you are having a hard time. Then the church helps you on your journey of living in God's will and encourages everyone to help others. It feels a little weird to rate a church, but here goes haha! The pastors, leadership, and community at Discovery are authentic, relevant, and genuinely care. I still feel somewhat new to the church but everyone has been so welcoming and folks even delivered us dinner when my grandma was in the hospital. I decided to sing with the worship team and these folks aren't just excellent musicians, but genuine people that love God and love people. This is the kind of place that provides a welcoming environment no matter who you are or what your faith background is. My family attended the 10:30 service last Sunday (southwest campus). We enjoyed the worship, the sermon, and received a warm welcome by several staff members who came up to us on Sunday and introduced them to us. Parking was a slight problem but that is because we arrived too early to the service because we wanted to check-in our child into the kid's care program and we weren't sure how long the check-in process would be. Overall we left the church feeling more like Jesus and we will definitely return. read more

Love this place. It's home for me, I see God everywhere here. People coming in broken hurting lost but then, I see something so amazing happen!!! that very broken person finds purpose. I had been to churches for weddings the last few years and had stayed away from religion because I felt that religion had nothing to offer me that I could not get from reading about Jesus on my own. However, since I have kids and want a healthy, happy, and moral life for them, I believe they should be exposed to the ideas of Jesus about love, forgiveness and being thankful. I like honesty and clear information so I needed to find a church that met my needs. I went to their service last Sunday at 11:15 am. I signed up my toddler for day care. At the entrance they had donuts, cold tea and coffee. The building is not too small or too big. The lights were dimmed and the music started and I felt like I was in a concert. People were friendly and greeted us. After the music ended, I took my toddler to the day care. It was nice to see the kids were separated by age. The pastor talked about the importance and value of sex in married life for Christian people. This was my first time hearing a full sermon on this topic at church. The pastor's sermon was clear and I can tell he tries to understand the Bible with honesty. So many preachers are like parrots with good sound bites but this preacher was better than most. No screaming or yelling, even though I was sleepy, he still kept me interested because he really made a lot of sense. read more
