Today was my first day coming to this church. I go to the gym across the street and I see it every single Saturday. A couple weekends ago I saw that they were having baptisms on Sunday so I made a reservation and I got baptized today. Everything is pretty casual. So don't feel weird if you have tattoos. You don't have to come fancy. I stayed for the sermon and it was very nice. It wasn't extremely long and it got to the point. Everybody was nice. They have water and coffee there for you. When you come in to get baptized, they will give you a shirt to wear. So it is best to wear shorts and bring clothes to change. They do have towels for you. When I was a child, I had to go to the J.W. church and I would be there for about 4-6 hours long and it would be literally painful. There was so much negative reasons why I left. It honestly made me uncomfortable. This church made me feel welcome. I felt like everyone was just human. Me and my husband will be back. read more

This church is amazing because they have water for you and they have a Youth Center for 7th to 12th grade.

This church "family" only cares about money and the income, not about the church members that have been going there and serving for decades. Pasters Lida & james ranger abandon you and your family in time of need. When my mom passed away, not a single paster reached out to me or my family to ask how we were doing, nothing. Do not go to this church or work for them. They will use people to get grant money. Also fire you when they want one of their old friend back to work. They will move you with out telling you. You just show up and your stuff will have been moved. read more

My husband and I just attended the two day marriage life event. All I can say is, WOW, what a powerful message. I left out of there beyond impressed with Dr. Gary Chapman's marital advice. The five love languages. His advice and book should be a staple in every single marriage. Frank and I have always enjoyed attending these types of events over the years but this one absolutely takes the cake! Super excited to put some of this learning into our daily lives. My Husband and I have been attending New Life Church since 1996. We were Baptised at the Southwest Campus in 1999. We both love this Church. Pastor James and Lydia are the best. We have been through almost losing our business back in 2003 and 2004 and then in 2005 my husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Through all of these trials and tribulations our church family never failed us. Our business came back out on top and we were able to sell it when it was time to retire and my husband has been cancer free since June 6, 2006. We left Bakersfield for a few years but now we are back and really, really happy to be back home at New Life. We now attend the Northwest Campus because it is closer to where we live but Pastor James and Lydia and now Pastor Bart and Pastor Lori are still number one on our list. Pastor James and Lydia come to Northwest once a month so we still get a wonderful message from our long time Pastor and we get the best from our new Pastors Bart and Lori. It does not matter which Campus you attend, you will still get a wonderful, positive message and Praise and Worship is amazing. We have a lot of talent in both churches. You will not be disappointed no matter what location you attend. Both Churches are Spirit filled and you will have a smile on your face and a song in your heart when you leave. My family and I used to love coming to this church. The sermons were very relatable and resonated really well with us, and the music was great. It wasn't until they had their yearly sermon on "Love," that things changed for us. About halfway through the sermon, pastor James Ranger held up the Bible over his head and quoted "I don't care what the law says, marriage is between a man and a woman." He went on a 15-20 minute tangent about how he loves everyone, but that him and his church will never accept relationships between same sex couples, and gave various reasons why which, in all honesty, lacked substance and introspect. He talked about being friends with a same sex couple (who he pointed out at the front of the audience), who were part of the church. He explained that he loved them, but that he would never agree their relationship was right under the eyes of god or that they should be allowed to marry. I understand this is a Christian church, and I by no means expected them to support gay marriage. But the way it was presented was very divisive, ignorant, and felt very insincere, manipulative and full of hate. On a sermon about "Love," me and my family left feeling far from that. read more

After my father passed in 2010 I lost all my faith and was spiraling down a path of destruction. I was raised a strict catholic but was open to a Christian Pentecost church . My friend told me to go to this church as she would accompany me. As I walked in I felt the Holy Spirit upon me even before I sat down to listen to the word. My life changed immediately. I will only attend if the Rangers are preaching it's always a beautiful service . there's also a children's center where the children are taught the word as well . My kids love it there . I highly recommend that if you accept Jesus in your heart this place is the jumping off point . My forever home of worship . read more

I love this place! they welcome you as you are. we have been going here for a while, wife since like the beginning. the worship music is amazing. i could have had the worst week ever and as soon as they start playing i'm immediately full of joy and happiness. i believe they really care about you. i've had some one on ones with some of the pastors and they are genuine people. i also love how much they do for the community. coming from a catholic background this place is a breath of fresh air and i feel closer to god because of them. i invite you to come enjoy the word, worship and have some free coffee! read more

We were driving around posting lost dogs flyers ( we just lost our dogs) and so we agree that maybe the church could allow to post a flyer or get some kind of help, it's a church, right. So we pull up and walk to the office door and ring a lady looks down the hall sees my wife and then continues to talk to someone, doesn't give a wave or a hold on sign. Nothing so we wait and a guy comes with the lady that kinda gave us the shine. Remember this is a church. We start telling our story of how we lost our dogs etc. So we ask them if possible to post a flyer on a bulletin board, now all this time the guy and lady were being short and looking down the hall as if we were really holding them up then they say sorry we don't have a bulletin board. strange, I've been to a few churches and I seem to remember EVERY church having one. Well they just remodeled maybe forgot to put one. Ok now we're feeling weird but trip here, what they mention they could do for us was leave one of our flyers with him and he could put it behind a desk let the janitor know to show it to some people. WOW! So yeah that's it pretty bad you notice how I kept calling them a guy and a lady cause their actions showed no JESUS. I know this church gets packed on Sundays, when a church has a big congregation a person or two can get lost in that big crowd when they go to church looking for Christ read more

Awesome church! People are average and most very friendly. Pastor James does a fantastic job sharing the word, I completely connect with him and his style. The worship team is probably one of the best in town. Their kids care does an exceptional job with our little ones, not too sure how they do with the older kids. I would strongly recommend NLC to everyone, come as you are and giving it a try, you owe it to yourself to at least come to one service before making your decision. Over a week ago we arrange to have my brother viewing at New life church. November 1st from 1:00 to 3:00pm. My aunt called today on Halloween just to confirm that there would be a pastor there during those hours and the lady told her we weren't able to have his viewing there because it would interfere with there "evening church service" Which doesn't make sense considering we would have been gone by 3pm. They didn't even bother calling us or letting us. If my aunt wouldn't have called today we would have all showed up there tomorrow for the viewing. Very disappointed . read more

Amazing! I visited this church recently, and it was wonderful. You can really feel the love of God when you enter the sanctuary. The music, praise and worship, and ministry of the word was truly wonderful. The pastors are down to earth and real with their message. Loved it! read more

My 11 year old nephew, 1 year old daughter and myself recently moved to Bakersfield and just happened to see this church and decided to check it out since we were in need of a new church now anyways. We tend to stick with the smaller churches because we like the more intimate feeling, but I'm happy we tried New Life out. Yes, it is large, but everything has signs saying where to go and everyone I've asked for assistance has been nothing less than extremely helpful. This is a recovery church which I love, never have I felt so non judged at a church. I have tattoos and so do a majority of other members. Tats and kids without being married are n out shunned but welcomed with open arms. I was however raised that men are to be the spiritual heads though and woman preach here too sometimes. As a woman I think it's cool, but biblically I'm still not sure. Other than that no complaints. The nursery is great, but they do not change diapers so make sure they go in with a clean one. The school age children have a worship area to themselves and my nephew loves that another child preaches to them (not sure if this is the norm). Great worship music and live band!!! I'll be joining a life group and connecting through bible study so if things continue to go well this will be our new church home. read more

This isn't our regular church as we don't live in the area but always come to New Life Center where we are in Bakersfield. Pastor James and Lydia are a wonderful couple who are passionate and loving to everyone who joins them each week. The venue itself is very large and always filled with friendly faces. The music here is really top notch and the technical equipment and production is phenomenal. A wonderful place to praise the Lord. read more
