When I closed my storefront in January of this year, I housed my fixtures and leftover inventory with Discovery Storage. I was lucky enough to sign up when it was nearly brand new so I got an amazing rate for a very large space. I was floored by the cheap move-in rate (including complimentary driver and truck!) and managed to move my entire store essentially for free! I wasn't sure how long I was going to end up keeping my stuff there, and the staff could not have been more kind or accommodating in giving me ongoing discounts, and generally making my life there SO easy. On top of all that, the facilities are virtually spotless, so secure, and easy to access at any time of day or night. New, facilities that are clean, well run. Good initial rates but they raise them after 3 months without putting the amount they will be raised to in the contract. Make sure you get that number before you sign. On the plus side, they are located on the former location of the location where some of the lunar module vehicles were produced and have historical exhibits. read more

So we originally had another summer storage company set up to store our daughters things over the summer and lets just say it didn't work out as planned. Even though this is not a typical summer storage facility for students, Kim (the GM) made it work. She was super friendly and the facility is great. Ok. I've checked all the local storage facilities in Santa Barbara and then I found Discovery in Goleta. The staff in the front lobby are friendly and helpful. They have specials that make their rates very competitive. The facilities are brand new and the units are designed for ease of use. They have rest rooms, boxes, a free one time moving truck, a conference room with coffee and cookies. Oh, and some pretty cool early NASA stuff to check out. Highly recommended. read more

We originally had another storage facility reserved for our daughter to store her furniture for 2 weeks during the summer break at UCSB while she transitioned to a new house, and unfortunately, the day of our move in, they called and said they did not have a space for us! Who does that? We quickly began calling other places, and what is the likelihood we would find anything same day, and on the busiest move out weekend of the year in Santa Barbara?? Luckily, Kim answered our plea for help. While her facility was also full, she did have a HUGE locker left, and when I say huge, it's basically an apartment of it's own. It was no where near what we needed, and definitely not in our budget. But after hearing our unfortunate story, and our truck full of furniture sitting with nowhere to go, she offered it to us, at the rate of a unit that we originally needed. (which was a fraction of what they would have normally charged). We are sooo grateful to Kim and Robert for helping us on an extremely stressful day! We will definitely be back next year when we need a storage unit again. Don't think of going anywhere else if you have a student who needs to store their furniture during summer. This place is high-tech and the service is so good. They give me a 30 dollars rate for the first month and an extra free month since my rent starts at June. The storage is super secure and safe. Definitely a good choice. read more

If you're a student looking for a place to store your things for a short amount of time, I don't recommend taking your business to Discovery. Although the location is very convenient and the facilities are clean, the contradictory information and service I received negate the positives of the business. I contacted them three times within a 3 month period (twice in person and once over the phone), and received different information from representatives each time. We gave the representative all the information upfront (I was a student looking for only 1 month of storage over the summer while I switched apartments and was planning to share with my housemates), and the first time we contacted them, the representative told us that the price would be $30 for a month, including the moving truck, and we could cancel for any reason at any point in time (a promotion going on during their opening). I called a month later to confirm and provided the same information, but instead was quoted a new price of $115, and when I called two weeks before we were planning on moving in, the price for the unit changed again to $319 because I was sharing the unit with my roommates, and the truck was no longer included because we were only staying a month. When I was booking my unit over the phone, I was again questioned about whether I was a student and if I was sharing with other students, and I was now told the price varied depending on how many people I was planning on sharing with. The significance of whether I'm sharing the unit doesn't make sense to me--it's a set amount of space so it should be a set price, but instead it increased from $200-something to $319 just by having 3 people sharing a unit. If that's how they want to run their business, that's their choice, but not informing your customer about the price differences and constantly misinforming them is unacceptable. The frequent inconsistencies with their prices I received was ridiculous, and the misleading information made moving out a greater hassle than it already was. My housemates and I are extremely frustrated and disappointed with their service. We searched for units early (in March 2017) in order to secure a space for us by the time we have to move out in the summer, but instead, we wasted months of our time on false expectations and were forced to frantically look for a place to take us during the busiest move-out time of the year. read more

I was at Public Storage for a few years and always felt it was a gross storage facility with poor customer service. Someone told me about Discovery and I am so glad they did. Kimberly helped me and she was very thorough and informative through the entire process. She has also been very responsive to my needs. They maintain a clean, well behaved facility. The units are individually alarmed and they have cameras all over the place. The bathrooms are clean and you need to use your individual code to use them which is nice because you don't find people bathing in there like I did at public storage. I am amazed at Discovery Storage. From the first phone call to the customer service to the actual storage facility, I am amazed. These people thought of making everything easier when it comes to having to move. Christina was so polite and super helpful with all of my questions every one of the 20 times that I called before I decided to rent the unit. Their prices are comparable to everybody else but their units are brand new, clean, alarmed, equipped with a sprinkler system, and equipped with built-in locks. The property is landscaped with wide driveways, lights for the evening visitation, bathrooms so you don't have to leave, conference tables with wi-fi, and conference rooms if you need one. Last but not least, they have a truck to help you on move in day. There is more but you need to go in and find out for yourself. I am so super happy! I feel like my stuff is staying over at grandma's house. :) read more
