The Hilbert Museum of California Art is the best museum in Orange County that you've never heard…read moreof. Even me, walking around recommending the place now, can barely remember its name. But still, since coming here for the first time only a couple of weeks ago I've recommended it multiple times. And now? Multiple + 1. Though you'll be asked, at entry, if you've made reservations, don't be daunted. Reservations are unnecessary and museum admittance is free of charge. Though the Hilbert had been on my radar earlier, I'd forgotten about it until noticing, at the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts, that several artists had pieces acquired by the Hilbert, spurring me to visit. Housed in two separate buildings connected by a central plaza framed with an astounding Millard Sheets mosaic, the building you enter for check-in has a frequently changing (3 times annually) display. On this visit they featured the California Art Club's 115th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition. Outstanding in every respect, I couldn't help but notice how many artists were there touring the show and how many of the pieces were already sold. Yes, the works in this particular exhibit were for sale, much of it quite reasonably priced considering the astounding talent on display. The second building features exhibits from the Hilbert's permanent collection and there was nary a dud in this space either. In that this is a museum of California art, the collection includes a lot of Disney-adjacent artists but also, so much more. I particularly enjoyed the way they kept each of these exhibits relatively bite-sized, to enable a broad showing of their remarkable collection. Knowing that the Hilbert is free, excellent, and always mixing things up pretty much guarantees a return visit on every future trip to Southern California. If you like museums and are anywhere nearby this is a museum definitely worth making time for.

I went to see a few friends show their work this month, and was taken aback by the gallery. Mike and Candace have done an amazing job with the space they own, and the way they display their artists' work makes the whole experience super fun and unique. Every nook and cranny of the warehouse has something interesting, and i feel like I'm walking through a labyrinth of personal expression. They also have DJs spinning, live bands, or just random music playing throughout. It's also very close to a lot of bars and restaurants off Harbor, so spend some time checking out this place before hitting up your favorite pub or restaurant.

Parking is in front near the entrance, weekdays it's $4 /hr but free on the weekends. Admission is just a $5 suggested donation to support the arboretum. I arrived within the first half hour after opening to try and beat the heat. Even though it was still warm, there were plenty of shaded areas to stay cool along with benches that were great for relaxing. There was also a breeze so that helped. Thought about spending an hour there but glad I paid for two hours of parking because I ended up staying for 1 & 1/2 hours. One of my favorite moments were simply sitting on a bench listening to all the birds. Hopefully you can hear them on the video. This is a peaceful place to unwind and definitely encourage you to visit.

We spent a lot of time admiring a group of docile ducks and enjoying the shade by the water. They also have an online plant shop for those interested in gardening (with a great ongoing deal). Since this is bi-monthly event I anticipated a lot. Ambiance: Very spacious. The strip is blocked off for vendors and chalk drawings for people to roam around. Parking was easy to find and get, just look for the parking structures and you're good to go. Generally a lot of friendly people supporting the community. Be sure to bring a jacket and some money just in case you buy food or some art! Food: There are a lot of food places around the area. To the chain fast foods, food trucks, or upscale tastes you'll have a fair amount of choices. Vendors There was probably about 15-20 vendors in the area. Less than I actually expected but these vendors and performers kept us entertained for a few good hours. Overall: I give this place 3.5 stars but do expect an updated review. I do believe that the participation of vendors and turnout varies by the season. This place had its charm, the location, the art, the music but the night I went was fairly cold and during a slow weekend. I look forward in going to the next Art Crawl Experience! What was special about this Anaheim Art Crawl, is that it fell on Valentine's Day (in the evening)…read more After spending the day flitting with my husband in the Inland Empire, we wanted to end our celebration of love, in the city we call home. It was a unique and joyful experience to walk around the Anaheim Farmer's Market at night, walk by all the arts & crafts booths, watch the Anaheim Ballet dancers perform to Lionel Richie songs, stroll in Muzeo, see couples slow dance in the middle of Center Street and to look at local shops actually gaining some visible business. One thing I wish there was more of, was arts and crafts vendors and more artists in general. The painters randomly placed in various corners were too hidden to be seen, the chalk artists made their mark and there could have been more food/dessert trucks in attendance. There was however, a female duet singing an acoustic version of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" outside of the Ink & Bean Coffee Saloon, which I thought was ultra cool! After an hour, the hubbs and I walked over to the Packing District (which is notoriously effing packed, so I'm always over it FAST) then ended up just chilling in Farmer's Park for another hour, sharing chuckles and stories about our jobs and lives. Back to the Art Crawl, we bought our usual kettle popcorn bags and I purchased some photo prints from a local photographer. I'd come back next month, but only if the scene offered more. It is not a place I would go to often, but it is adorable and worth a visit. We had a great time there, just looking at all the stuff. The downtown Fullerton art walk happens on the first Friday of every month. This happens all year round. It seems like the event was more popular maybe pre-covid? Not too sure. You can walk around downtown, and you will see signs put out for the businesses that are participating. It seems like the hours vary depending on the business. So, some were closed when we went. It may be a good idea to go during the day, so you can hit all of the places before they close. We got to see some art. It was cool. It's always fun exploring downtown Fullerton! It was cool how everything was gathered in one place and there was a lot of festivities: photobooth, live music, food trucks, beer and wine garden, arts and crafts booth for kids, etc. The museum gift shop was also open to browse. Great atmosphere and nice to walk around, though I didn't really get involved too much with the booths. I was there mostly to browse and soak in the atmosphere. And to get grub from the food trucks, haha. The gathering was a lot smaller than I thought and I was expecting to see a lot more, but it's ok. I enjoyed the atmosphere. Parking was a breeze since they were set up right next to a couple of free public parking garages. All in all, the event provided some great atmosphere, but I'm not sure if a normal Artwalk would be for me. I suppose if I had nothing better to do on a Friday night and wanted to soak in some local art, I'd go again.
