I find the quality and prices very good AND it's a registered charity; part of the Big Sisters/Brothers organization so proceeds are going to an excellent cause. They now have a small housewares section but don't have room for big items like furniture. I do make sure this place is on my list when I'm on the hunt for something. Ample free parking and close to other shopping on Merivale.

I like that the impacts of donations and purchases stay local. And organizations that help kids always have my support. The clothing at Thrive appears to be geared towards youth and so skews on the younger side, in my opinion. The racks are filled with brands like Old Navy, Garage, and Ardene. Prices are cheaper than places like Value Village. They had some new items like Funko Pops and Squishmallows, while I was there, but I guess these depend on donations, perhaps these were from a business (?) They also had some used video games and controllers. They also have (new) Big Brothers and Big Sisters merchandise. Staff are friendly. I believe that many of them are volunteers. They are located in the Emerald Plaza. Lots of free parking in the plaza.

Looks like I'm first up, so I better make it count! So…read morehere's a brief history, I like sticky buns and I cannot lie, the other brothers can't deny, that Packenham had the best in the space, till the recipe ended up in Carleton place. Plagiarized raps out of the way, here's my review... We heard that CP general store had amazing sticky buns and were further intrigued when rumours circulated that they had the recipe from the OG Packenham General store. We made two attempts to drive the CP to get them but the staff who was there said that they didn't have them at the time we went. I called on a Saturday morning and asked if they could put some aside.... Not only did she put some aside, she was kind enough to remember us and put a bow and ribbon on this really nice gift box for my son. We got a few other things as well, they had cheese sticks, a couple of seltzer type drinks and the butter tarts. Lemme first talk about the butter tarts - they are unlike any other butter tart and I don't think I can get them from anywhere else now - they were so delicious and although sweet, the pack of 6 disappeared over two days. Now for the sticky buns: holy shit so good, you gotta get them! That's all I gotta say - just gooey and delectable! The staff - five star! The entrance is a shared entrance with a gift and antique store so overall a really nice experience. The Carleton Place General Store gets 5 stars from me.

You may have heard of the Amish Store in Balderson for the fine, sturdy, and well built furniture…read morethey offer for sale. However, you may not know that they have started building kitchens. YES - KITCHENS! Their creations are absoluty divine! I was convinced to use their services simply by what they have on display. I thought we could buy what they were showing, bring it home and put it in, but then we talked to Debbie... OMG what an experience! She came to our house, measured the space, and asked us what features we wanted to put in our own kitchen, then drew it all out on paper. The price of the quote she was able to provide us was very comparable to what other companies are offering even though this kitchen is all hand made, but it was also soooo much more - begining with the fact that it was built out of solid wood instead of pressboard or melamine. Add to that the many features built into it, which puts this kitchen way over and above what anyone else is offering! This kitchen MAKES the house! Put it this way: where most kitchen design companies and box store cabinet providers charge for any improvements over the shape of your boxy cabinets, the Amish store will build cupboards that fit in your kitchen, and will include so called upgrades such as that little shelf below the sink to hold rubber gloves, sponges, and your jewellery while you wash dishes; a spice drawer with shelves in it; pot drawers; recycling containers; up and down slats to hold your bakeware; and a roll-out cutting board and anything else you can think of. If you are considering kitchen designs - whether to upgrade your current kitchen, or for a new home build - I strongly urge you to compare with what the Amish Store has to offer. And PS: If by chance you have NOT heard of them, I strongly suggest you make a trip out to see them - even if you're not looking for a kitchen or furniture! Balderson is an enjoyable drive out in the country. Why not make a day of it? Take in the cheese shop, grab a bite to eat in the cafe, or go to the local tea room. Shop for souvenirs across the street. And let us know what you think of it!!

Last spring, I sent an e-mail through the store's "contact us" with an inquiry and received no reply. So, in the summer, I drove to Balderson and spoke with a sales person who, at the time, was unable to give me a price on the table and chairs that I wished to order. She took my name and e-mail address in order to send the information to me. Well, I have never received an e-mail or telephone call. I am surprised by the lack of respect for a potential customer. I had planned to buy multiple rooms of furniture but given the lack of respect I have been shown, I won't be returning. I'll take my business to a store which shows some respect for its customers.
