Did I come here on an off day? The area is in a small town, not much around and nothing was open early on a Sunday morning. Based on the reviews, I drove 15mins to get here hoping for some amazing donuts. It's in a little plaza, a group of people where just hanging out outside. We walked in and it was totally empty. The donut racks were pretty much empty. So we got what we could to fill a box. There isn't much space inside and with the group of people hanging out outside we took the box back to our car. As a child, I remember going to Dixie Cream Donuts in Cutler Ridge, south of Miami. They had the best donuts in town and I remember Otto the owner as his family lived on our block. Relocating to Vero Beach from Fort Lauderdale recently, a friend from Jr. High School told me about this place. I never knew that Dixie Cream Donuts was a concept and that the recipe has been around since 1929. I bought a dozen - four glazed, a couple of Bavarian creme and the rest were assorted jelly. $7.49 a dozen. These donuts brought me back to my childhood. Much better than Dunkin Donuts. I RARELY ever eat donuts but based on some of the great reviews ...it piqued my curiosity to check this place out. It's located bordering "da hood" and I was a little apprehensive about stopping in, but surprisingly enough, I'm glad I did. The friendly woman behind the counter greeted me cheerfully as I approached. I told her it was my first visit and asked what does she recommend. She handed me a glazed. Of course, it was very tasty, comparable looking, but much better tasting than Krispy Kreme. Had a sweet, doughy taste but crunchy. If I'm ever in the mood for donuts, I'd be back for sure. I remember being late to school multiple times a week because I had to get my fix of this glazed, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Detention was so worth it. I kept it simple with the regular glazed donut & a couple of the glazed "twisters". Always got a cold carton of milk to wash it down. These donuts are so good! The lady who was working was so nice and let us try a donut since it was our first time there. We went a few minutes before closing time, so they were out of some flavors, but everything we tried were super fresh! The dough is moist, but a littler heavier than Krispy Kreme. The glaze flavors were so good! I can't wait to get hungry so I can try another from the dozen we bought!
