Webster has some really nice…read moreparks; I wish I had realized that sooner, but now that I am running more, and looking for different places to run during my longer runs, I have stumbled across this little hidden gem. I always knew it was here, and we actually stopped by here one year around Christmas time as they decorate the little gazebo with white lights. It's very pretty, and very romantic, but after that time I sorta forgot it was here. Yesterday though I was on a long run and decided to see if this park has a running trail. And it does! It's only 1/4 of a mile but a lot of it is shady (nice!) and I love the surface! It's not gravel like Texas Avenue and it's softer than asphalt. It feels like the surface that's on an actual track. And bonus, there's NOBODY here. If you want a quiet, solitary run, come here! There was one lady and her young child at the playground area and as I was leaving another runner came along. That's it. Maybe it gets busier later, or at different time, I don't know. Now granted, this is a small park. No bathrooms, no water fountains, and just a couple little playground areas. But lots of picnic tables and benches and the nice gazebo, and of course the little track. But for a nice little quiet run in a nice little quiet neighborhood, this is the place to be! I know I will be back!

Yes, you will need to walk a couple of miles to get there, but of course you will eventually get there. The path isn't that narrow; it doesn't hurt to walk in the grass when someone with a bike is travelling through. The scenery is alright; there isn't much. You have the bayou that runs between. If you are walking left towards Dixie Farm Park then you will run into Weber Elementary on the opposite side there are KB homes that all look the same. If you walk towards the right then you will find the backyards of some Sagemont houses; also you'll notice the path elevation change and you find yourself walking under a bridge. This park has been in the neighborhood for a good while; it was surely there when I was a kid. I love the fact that I live so near the park that I don't even have to drive here. I can just start walking from my house; burn a lot of calories and lose some more weight! That's the best! Anywho, they have playgrounds for the adults and kids; hint if you wanna play on it and you are an adult just go when the parents or kids aren't around. If you go try to play with their kids; they will definitely judge you! So, just go when no kids and their annoying parents aren't there. There are lots of parking! Though, no dog parks here; just walk your baby instead.

It has trails in park and in between, jungle gym, work out stations, benches, and a gazebo. This park is also a dumping spot for unwanted dogs and puppies. Just last night someone dropped off 10 or so dogs: mother and her puppies. It is near Blackhawk and Scarsdale. M.U.D water and Weber school is around it. It has no lakes, just a bayou and if it floods a little overflow and that's about it. No real wildlife. All land in different areas I guess needs a different name, but it is all the same. Hours are 10p to 5a.

At the front of the park, you'll find two clean restrooms and a playground with various swings for able-bodied and disabled children, monkey bars, and a spinning carousel. The parking lot is very large with many slots. It's a great place to come to if you want to get in some quick cardio around the track. I like that the Armand Bayou hike and bike trail are attached; it can get pretty crowded on the weekend, but if you want to see some wildlife it's here. There are deer, rabbits, and birds.

Whenever I visit, generally during holidays when we're in town to visit relatives, there are always plenty of folks of all ages enjoying the park, including dog walkers, kids on bikes & scooters, and lots of jogging suit-clad senior citizens getting their daily walks in. My primary interest in HBCSC, however, is as an entry point for the well trafficked Armand Bayou Hike & Bike Trail system http://www.yelp.com/biz/armand-bayou-hike-and-bike-trail-pasadena-2 . From here, I can get in a nice 10 mile run (5 flat miles out and back to Bay Area Blvd.) that is mostly shaded and offering a bit of typical SE Texas scenery. Recent rains can make for some soupy areas on the trail, but experienced trail runners and mountain bikers will have no trouble. When the weather is warm, mosquitos are common, so plan ahead with protection for that. Do note the many warning signs about snakes. Depending on the season and time of day, you may see a few, but that's also true for the back yards around here. Use your common sense, folks. This trail is adjacent to a bayou, so you may encounter any kind of creature that would thrive in a bayou. I would not recommend running or biking at night on this trail; stick to the dry, raised track loop for that.

I traveled to address: 840 Egret Bay Blvd and took a left turn to go on a gravel path around a loop to the parking lot. Benches throughout the park to sit and observe nature. Speaking of nature, I spotted a turtle, a male cardinal, a seagull, lots of moss, mushrooms, and tiger swallowtail butterfly. Beautiful artwork of birds near the parking lot. At regular pace, the paths are 1.7 miles. Very accessible and handicapped safe. The restrooms are in front of the parking lot. I thought it was pretty cool to have aquatic milkweed in a patch then a diagram of all the native milkweeds.

The ladies restroom looks like a crime scene; it's so creepy. I couldn't even bring myself to walk inside to occupy it. The random tunnel in the ceiling and the overly large giant old fashioned AC unit above the poorly lit stalls. I know I got an eerie feeling about it, so I immediately left. The whole pavilion where the restrooms are housed are outdated and give off that old mildew odor. The parking lot is big, but there isn't much secluded parts to eat lunch in the car, etc. It's a small park and there is one main area with watering hole. The park isn't as frequent. It's more of a meh place. It's okay. Ladies, please watch out for that restroom.

I usually go on hikes with the Houston Women's Hiking group Clear Lake edition, but when I want to…read morego on a good adrenaline hike on a Saturday I come here. Jack Brooks is the only park in the area that I know that has high slopes with deep dips and some flat terrain that is similar to something you'll find in Hill Country, Central Texas. I get here very early in the morning to beat the MTB (mountain bikers) since the trail was essentially designed for them. However, it's also perfect for hikers too. Trekking poles are recommended when doing this trail that crosses over ponds, wooden planks curved in to create a high endurance speed track, and different props throughout. A suggestion is to wear good hiking shoes non-slip with good grip support. Ones that don't slip and slide around when you're walking. I would even wear toe covers to protect your toenails from shoe impact if not, you might have hikers toes (hematoma in the nail bed) otherwise. I don't recommend physical disabled, limited ROM, or anyone ridiculously out of shape to experience this trail. It isn't easy and it is very challenging; it's best if you have somewhat physical fitness under your belt since you'll need that abdomen and legs strength to pull yourself up and down between all the dips. If not, you'll be very much out of breath and unhappy. It isn't wheelchair or any assistive devices friendly as you may experience falls if you're unstable on your feet. The signage on the trail is themed based on your experience when attempting each path such as they have some that say: Hell II, Autobahn, and Hell I. When I come with the hiking group and alone, I hike up to 5.5 miles. And if you get lost, I tend to rely on AllTrails app to guide me. It can be very helpful when it working. The whole trail is heavily shaded, but since it's located in Santa Fe/Hitchcock, TX which is closer to Galveston (Gulf of Mexico) then the temps are typically muggy hot humid leaving me in a sweat bath. I suggest bringing some electrolytes and a hydration pack because whew, you can get dehydrated or overheated just by hiking this trail. The mosquitoes can be bad, so spray yourself first. There's wildflowers, spider webs blocking paths, and flying bugs. Nonetheless, this park trail system is by far the most fun I've experienced. I love it! I was a tad bit leary of hiking solo since it's in Santa Fe, TX has a history of KKK rallies dating back to the 1980s and the presence of hateful looks from the locals are still present today (my mum experienced it at Haak Winery and my sister experienced it at the Walmart). That's why I like to go early or with a group of ladies (all races) because I don't want no flack from anyone when I'm simply trying to have fun burning calories. To get to the trail, at the stop sign once you enter the park, take a left turn then go to the big parking lot. Park then walk at the starting point according to AllTrails. Summer time brings orb spiders on the trails. I have seen small snakes and rabbits in the spring on the trails. I have heard there are wild hogs and have seen the prints and areas where they are digging for grubs and such but have never seen one. There are areas for frisby golf and other open areas for other sports and picnicking. Covered areas are available and restrooms are clean and well maintained. The whole park is well maintained.

It's also good for walking and staying active. A few people were walking their dogs, so it's good for pet owners. Some of the bugs can be pretty loud. I'm not sure which ones were making the annoying sound, but a good pair of headphones will help with that.
