    Logan Circle, Downtown

This review reflects my experience dining out with celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that…read morerequires me to maintain a diet free of gluten (including cross contact). SERVICE: 4/5 stars DRINKS: 4/5 stars FOOD: Not applicable AMBIANCE: 4/5 stars VALUE: 3/5 stars OVERALL RATING: 4/5 stars Tinsel and Tonic is a holiday-themed pop-up bar, located in the former Barrel House liquors (soon to be Barrel House Café & Bar). To keep the Christmas cheer alive, I visited with friends earlier this month. The pop-up is beautifully decorated--the ceiling installation is breathtaking, and the rest of the bar is sufficiently cheery to make one forget that it's now January. The bar at Tinsel and Tonic had a limited menu with hot and cold cocktails and mocktails, the names of which were plays on various Christmas idioms with wintery ingredients; simple classic cocktails were also available off menu. I attempted to order my usual drink, a Madras; the bar did not have orange juice on hand the night I was there. So, instead, I substituted vodka for bourbon in the hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was decadent, coming with a mountain of whipped cream and Christmas-colored sugar on top. I thoroughly enjoyed the drink, having three throughout the evening. While I would not have been able to enjoy Timber Pizza, the truck had broken down (so no one got pizza that night). Other patrons brought in take-out from other restaurants nearby. The menu at Tinsel and Tonic is not available online, but the drinks were rather expensive (my hot chocolate was $18.00, plus a service fee). I would visit again, if the pop-up were to return in December 2025.
