We were looking for a khmer dj to be able to mix in khmer music with american without having a live band. He was amazing for us. Being able to blend traditional khmer music along with current songs was all we wanted and he did so amazingly. Not only as a dj but also a mc. When we started looking for a DJ for our wedding, we were looking for something specific, someone who could play both American and Khmer (Cambodian) music. I did extensive research and found DJ Sokin online. I e-mailed him and right away I could tell he was going to be awesome. We explained that my fiancé's family was Khmer-American and that we would really love to incorporate Khmer music into the reception along side all the American music we play. DJ Sokin totally understood, was very helpful, and sent us a sheet that asked us what we would prefer for all the big event moments such as: cake cutting, bouquet toss, garter throw, wedding party entrance, etc... We told DJ Sokin the type of music that we wanted and the type that we didn't and he was able to come up with an amazing reception, everyone was dancing and having a great time. It was an adult's only reception so we told him to put on all the 90s R&B / Rap and he did just that, but then he would mix in some Khmer music to get everyone on the floor dancing Khmer together - an amazing experience. I highly recommend DJ Sokin for any event, no matter if it is all American or mixed American / Khmer, him and his wife were an absolute dream to work with and 100% of our planning and communication was done over e-mail, we did not actually meet until four days before the wedding! We live in Texas but had the wedding in California so we needed someone that I could trust since I would not be meeting them, and DJ Sokin was the best decision I made. Dj Sokin was the best! I had an American-style ceremony with Cambodian-style reception. He did a great job deejaying and emceeing! My husband and I danced all night to it. I had a mix of Khmer and hip-hop/R&B/top40s. All of my guests loved him and loads of people stayed up until the last song dancing their booties off. One guest even asked me for his contact info for her future wedding. He tagged team with his son and his sweet wife was there also helping with pictures and video recording. They even made a really cute YouTube video for us! My husband and I met with Sokin and his wife twice before the actual wedding day to go over the reception schedule and to clarify things. We clicked immediately and knew we'd have no problems working with them. On top of that, he wanted to ensure things went smoothly on day of wedding that he went to see our reception venue with his wife on a separate day to see how his equipment could and should be setup. For our first dance song, he offered to help cut and edit the song to shorten it per our request and got it to us fast so we can practice with only a week left before the wedding! We got the $995 deal and because we paid the remaining balance two weeks ahead of time, we got $50 discount. I would definitely recommend him to friends and family. DJ Sokin and his team are wonderful! They helped us with planning our wedding reception every step of the way. I did not have time to get music prepared for our wedding ceremony at the Japanese Gardens, but Sokin and his team stepped in and made a CD of all the music we needed right away! It truly saved us and our sanity that week! They really listened to our needs and helped create a beautiful atmosphere with romantic lighting, a light gobo of our names and provided a large projector screen to showcase our slideshow during dinner on the Queen Mary. The team did an excellent job of playing the right music for the cocktail hour and getting everyone in the mood for the reception which consisted of Khmer and American music. I know there were plenty of obstacles for them (i.e. no elevators to the top deck, squeezing in last minute requests, etc.), but they were flexible, professional, prompt, and really helped the night flow well by keep everything on schedule.
