This involved removing some interior walls to make the shower larger. We also wanted to replace the flooring. In the laundry room we wanted to replace the cabinets, utility sink, and flooring. We also built some soffets and a false wall to hide some exposed pipes and give the room a more finished look. Margarito, the owner, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful during the process and was very easy to work with. They finished the job in a timely manner and did a great job of minimizing the mess and disruption and cleaning up after themselves. The cost was very reasonable and very close to the original perliminary estimate. The workmanship was excellent. I would definitely recommend Bertha Construction for a home remodel project.

He pointed me to Martin Hill, a third generation Seattle craftsmen who usually does major contracting gigs, like completely renovating a kitchen or laying down hardwood floor. Despite the fact that all I needed was a couple of hours of carpentry work, he was happy to help out. The cost was reasonable, but more importantly, he was extremely courteous and very accommodating. I travel frequently for work and there are only a couple of days during the week that I'm around, yet he was willing to work within my schedule. It was roughly a one week turnaround, from the time I first made contact to when the work was completed. In this day and age of internet services and off shoring, its rare to find folks like Martin who genuinely care about their work and make customer service a priority. Anyone who needs work done on their home should definitely consider him as an option.

Update: Upon paying…read morefor the fence project in full, I expected no further contact from Josh Sanderson of Azimuth Works, but unfortunately it's only gotten worse: verbal harassment, online stalking and a series of lies and accusations. While I'm walking my dog on my own property, Mr. Sanderson drives by and begins to yell obscenities at me, says he's been looking me up on LinkedIn and doesn't approve of my career choices. He then begins to shout about how he's made millions of dollars in startups as a salesman or something and I'm just standing there bemused that this grown man is actually driving past a former customer's home to harass and intimidate. I've notified the Seattle police department about this encounter and plan to record the next time he behaves in this way so I can turn over this video to the authorities. I hope it doesn't happen again but given his behavior to date, I'm definitely ready for it! He's now spent months continuing to tell lies and spin the truth - he even tried to get the Better Business Bureau to throw out my complaint and tried to convince them that I was not an actual customer. The BBB quickly approved my complaint after I sent them documentation, and meanwhile he continued to press them and accused the BBB of not doing their job very well. I've never been through an experience like this with a contractor who would harass a customer after full payment but it just goes to show you really have to be careful choosing who to work with.

In early fall, we hired contractor Josh Sanderson of Azimuth Works for an exterior window and deck…read morerestoration project and had a very negative experience. Initially the project seemed to go well. We signed onto a bid that provided low- and high-end estimates of labor and material costs. Only part way into the project, however, we received an invoice that, together with the deposit, equaled the high-end estimate for the entire project. We were very surprised by the invoice since the project was not near completion. We also had unsettling interactions with Mr. Sanderson just before and during the new billing. The first occurred earlier on the day before receiving the new invoice. In a conversation about how work was progressing and our desire to have more priority given to our project, the contractor began shouting insults while on our property and continuing as he got into his car. We tried to lower the tension level with appeals for reasonable dialogue to no avail. Two days after we received the invoice, at 6:30 in the morning, while it was still dark out, we were awakened by a police officer at our door informing us Mr. Sanderson allegedly had tried that morning to remove the stack of boards (which hadn't yet been installed) from our porch. Later that same morning, we received an email threatening a lawsuit unless we paid the invoice immediately. This occurred even though we had communicated the day before to Mr. Sanderson that we were reviewing the invoice. Note, for clarification: We had discussed modest additions to the scope of restoration. Only one of those ideas, a strip of wood around the outside of the porch, had been completed, and was included in the new bill. Other potential additions did not and could not factor into the billing since no work had been applied to them. We paid the remaining bill although the work was far from complete. We wanted to have no more dealings with this contractor. We would like to emphasize that clients have the right to review and question billing and other work-related issues without having the threat of lawsuits and other intimidating actions aimed at them. Looking back, we regret we did not research the reviews and complaints on consumer sites, such as Yelp and the Better Business Bureau before starting the project.

I dis-recommend using Greater Seattle Floors…read more Our general contractor brought them Greater Seattle Floors as a subcontractor. GSF installed wood flooring in four rooms and wall-to-wall carpeting in one room as part of a larger project. GSF wouldn't replace a wall-to-wall carpet that began unraveling two months after they installed it. It was in a lightly-used room that was only vacuumed once. There were foot-long long strands of carpet yarn that were just sitting on top of the bald backing material. GSF said to snip the yarn and not to vacuum. We complained and they sent someone to repair it. The repair person scrunched up the yarn strands and glued them to the backing. The texture of the repaired spot didn't match the rest of the carpet at all. Weeks later the yarn started unraveling in two more places. We asked GSF to replace the carpet. They refused and told us "pulls and snags are to be expected." The first wall-to-wall carpet they installed looked noticeably different on one side of where they seamed it compared to the other side. They did replace this at their expense when we complained, but it delayed the completion of the project by weeks. Two out of the four items we ordered were no longer made, although GSF still displayed them and sold them, or at least thought they could sell them. I called their showroom to find out when it was open. I went there during business hours and the showroom door was locked. I caught a worker coming out the door who said you have to make an appointment. Why not say that over the phone? They did do a very nice job installing the wood floors.
