My husband and I turned into the parking lot and weren't sure we were in the right place! It turns out we were and we ended up being pleasantly surprised! We entered the first smaller building which was the store and met Sami. Sami was so friendly and helpful. She escorted us into the gallery which we didn't expect to be so large and full of beautiful abstracts by Donna Manger-Weil. So glad we were able to visit the gallery during our trip! To be honest, I was drawn first by the complimentary wine/espresso, but the experience itself exceeded my expectation. We received a warm welcome from Donna's business partner Ken when we arrived on a quiet Sunday morning - he gave us a quick tour of the gallery, showed us the print machine that can reproduce artworks on canvas, and took us to see Donna's art studio. It is not everyday you can be inside an artist's work space to witness all the creativity! As an added bonus, we saw two young deers nippling at the grass outside the studio.. Donna's paintings were very colorful and each piece has an interesting story behind. The gallery was very spacious and you can really take your time to soak in the art work with a glass of wine! Highly recommended for anyone visiting New Paltz. read more

On our trip back from a vineyard in the Upper Hudson Valley, my friends and I decided to look up things to do in New Paltz. I'm so glad we did! The gentleman responsible for the prints greeted us upon entering the gallery. He was very kind and informative. The gallery itself is beautiful, bold and bright. The best way to describe the art is "happy art". We even got to meet the artist who was extremely sweet. She offered to give us a tour of her studio and it was inspiring indeed. I purchased a few prints, but can't wait to own a DM Weil painting one day. I would definitely recommend visiting this gallery. I'll definitely go back for a visit soon! read more

Friendly and welcoming environment. We visited the gallery after a hike because we wanted to see some art. They were accommodating and shared their story. The art on the walls were remarkable. Impressive, gorgeous gallery in New Paltz! I was in the area visiting friends and decided to check this place out based on their recommendation. Yes, it's a little off the beaten path, but is so worth the scenic drive! The space is vast and beautiful. I wouldn't call myself a modern art expert by any means, but was taken by the use of bold color and texture. Donna's work is joyful and full of life, so it seems fitting that the paintings have room to breathe in this spacious layout. While some galleries can seem stuck up or cold, this one is quite the opposite. Donna (and gallery manager Ken) are more than happy to give you a personal guided tour, and Donna will share the origins and inspiration for her work. Don't be intimidated if you aren't an artist or don't know much about it -- you will still enjoy this gallery! read more

My husband researched and found this gallery for us to visit on our visit to Mohonk Mountain House. We were both so pleased with our warm greeting from Donna and Ken and the introduction to the artwork. We bought Blue Diver for our Florida home and have plans to buy 2 or 3 more pieces. I visited over the weekend with my friends. We were looking to pick out a gift for our friends who just purchased their first home. Donna and Ken who were extremely welcoming and knowledgeable gave us an amazing tour and took the time to help us pick out the perfect gift. We stopped by this gallery because we needed some indoor activity near New Paltz on a rainy day and then wished we had stopped anyway. This gallery of abstract art is really accessible. You don't need to know anything about art to enjoy the very colorful pieces exposed. Plus they sell reproductions making it possible for many people to purchase something and bring some art home! We were nicely welcomed, offered a cup of espresso, explained how the gallery was setup and had the opportunity to chat with the artist! I highly recommend this gallery! read more

A hidden gem! We went in and were offered wine and snacks while we checked out the artwork. The artist joined us for a while to discuss her work. She was very lovely, and we really had a fun time. Truly an amazing art gallery. There are tons of amazing pieces created by DM Weil. She is such a nice person, who takes the time out to tell her stories with you. She has such great knowledge and insight on why she chose to do certain pieces and what the meaning behind them mean. The front has a cool shop where they sell merchandise and as you walk towards the back you see these doors leading to the gallery. Once you enter the gallery its a different world!! There are beautiful pieces, a gorgeous piano, incredible space, and a chic bar setup! This gallery is certainly a place to visit especially if you are upstate in New Paltz. It is somewhere we will revisit and are thinking about making a nice purchase. Make the trip out here, it is worth it! read more

Was visiting out of town family who are really into art. I used to go with them as a kid to art galleries in LA. I was invited by them to check out their new favorite art gallery in their new area they just moved to. I have to say I wasnt expecting to be impressed as much as I was, the art work was very impressive and on par with works Ive seen in LA. I enjoyed my time here dicussing the works with the artist. read more

I stopped in during a weekend trip to New Paltz. What a wonderful space. We were greeted in a reception space by the gentleman who makes the reprints. There were several large printers in the room and he explained how they work and their use and purpose. He pointed out which were originals and which were reprints. The pieces were very impressive. He then led us into the gallery space. It was large, airy, bright and well maintained. We were offered a refreshment and he gave us a little briefing and then left us. Each painting had a title card and a brief explanation of the Artists thoughts on the piece. We were inside about 10 minutes when the artist herself came in and introduced herself to us! She gave us a personal tour and was very willing to answer questions. We chatted for a bit and then she left us to continue admiring the work. When we left the gallery she was in the reception area and offered us a tour of her studio which was in a building just a few feet from the gallery. We accepted and got an inside look at where the artist creates her works. It was informative and enjoyable. I had never been in an artists studio so it was quite exciting for me. If you are in the area stop in, its well worth it. read more

If you are driving through fields, through the woods, past endless trees, cross a river, meander down country roads, spy curious long driveways, spot buildings from the 17th century, pass vineyards, and ask yourself who lives out here beyond those rural mailboxes.... You may already be on your way to a slice of SoHo in the Hudson Valley; that is if you are on your way to DM Weil's Gallery, office and studio. Listen, I'm not kidding. Once you are inside, this place looks like you just stepped in off of West Broadway into a NYC gallery. Your are greeted by an inside view of DM's office, and probably Ken, who minds the desk and greets you if DM is in the studio building across the way. You can get a good look at a several printers big enough to print giclee's of DM's 6' canvases, and when you get past the printers, (I'm an artist and just a bit jealous of these slick machines) you step into a high ceilinged gallery that has no equal in the Hudson Valley. It is bright, spare, beautiful, and filled with really exciting paintings DM has done. Her work is big, bold, playful and engaging. These paintings are well matched to the space and it's hard to imagine seeing her work in someplace cramped or small, it would be overwhelmed by these canvases. I first visited on my bicycle while riding around the Hudson Valley on the weekend, and even in bike shorts and riding shoes I was well received. DM and I had a very nice talk about her work, the space, and what a surprise and delight it was to find her gallery nestled, as it was, on a quiet and very bikable road in Gardiner NY. I've been back since and there is always something new to talk about or look at or both. I would recommend it for folks visiting the area, wine touring, art touring, bike touring or leaf peeping. I think it's only open on weekends, and holidays, but check the website to be sure. No matter what you wont be sorry you stopped by for a look see. read more

We loved Donna and her gallery. The work is spectacular and the gallery is incredible. So much fun to look at her work, chat with her and revel in the art. We walked in mildly interested in buying something (maybe/we weren't sure/whatever/it was just fun to walk around). Next thing you know we fell in love with a piece of art! A couple weeks later Donna and Ken drove to our house and hung our lovely art over our fireplace. We are so happy! read more
