This place is a HOT mess!! Its the DMV so its expected, but why does everyone's experience with a city run establishment always have to be uncomfortable? It shouldn't have to be this way. I use to arrive 1 hour before they open to ensure i am top 10. Now after COVID 19, the lines are insane. There are no words. It goes to show everyone how low class city/state establishments and city/state employees are. There are no words. I understand we are in a pandemic, but for goodness sakes, hire additional people to deal with the increase in demand. They never do and will never listen. The staff in here are also insanely rude and disrespectful. Some do not appear college educated. Thank goodness for the White Castle close by. Its the only joy i get out of coming here. As soon as i get my ID, i leave, run to White Castle, eat tons of cheeseburgers and then run to the bathroom to have my colon cleansed. Not sure if its kangaroo meat, or some other exotic mystery meat, but i always have to use the bathroom every time after chowing down on those cheeseburgers. Word of advice: Avoid this DMV location at all cost and bring all your documentation to protect yourself. Also, call Same Ole Line Dudes to use a line sitter. Please don't physically destroy someone's license, which is still valid (unexpired), without letting them know in advance. I've never had that done at any other DMV or MVC anywhere before, ever; they have simply just renewed my license and given my old one back to me in its original form, untouched, (without holes punched thru the entire card and over the individual's photo). My experience was quick and painless. The employees were nice and patient with me, I had an appointment and was seen within 10 mins of arriving. I was done within 45 mins total. I needed an out of state transfer for new drivers license. No lines either that day for walk ins, even though it was a Saturday. Maybe because it was snowing nobody left the house? One can never EVER get a live person on the line...can't make an appt even for November 2023 (a year from now) all because NOT ONE OFFICE HAS appts available...How is that possible?!? Some staff is exceedingly rude and arrogant. A receptionist named Alvin acted like a gangster and treated non-Spanish clients like enemies. I was acting as a volunteer translator for someone who doesn't speak English well but had to go to my car to fetch some documents. Alvin refused to let me in which cost both MVC and my friend an extra hour due to their inability to communicate with each other. read more

Have to go here to straighten out your information for your vehicle so you are able to drive! Typically not the best places to go since I'm not sure if they just aren't run efficiently or not! I came in with what my mom had gaven me as my social as well I brought 5 other things I can use for points. I was told my social was fake, I said it's not. The black woman got nasty with me when I said I can bring my mom in if that helps because she the one who gave it to me which I said in a cheerful voice Her response was " how ducking old are you" and I kinda was in shock and I was always anxious which I struggle with anxiety which I waited 5 months to come here to do this. After she snapped on me and I was in completely panic and anxiety. I told her that it's a real number and to look it up if she could. She threw my stuff at me through the little window and I said grow up in my mind I could have used all other papers and IDs as well paystubs and more but they wanted to know why. Which I never really had ever seen a real social card besides when my mom gave me which never been a issue. She cursed at me again and I said shut the fuck up because I already was so confused and distressed and my anxiety was hitting me hard. she's didn't wait 5 months to come in and everyone is more worried about a laminated card which I didn't know was not supposed to be and I had my mom in my ear on phone says it's real during this whole thing .... I walked away and said have a good day because I needed to comfort myself and be nice , I hear her say shit non stop and I started crying. Yes I cried because I waited so long and I check weekly for others places AND Instead of being her nasty to me because I REALLY THOUGHT IT WAS REAL and she probably thought I was lying which I wasn't I honestly didn't know until i went to the card crying my mom saying she lost mine than and have to order a real one... If I could give them a minus-10 Star Rating I would. It's an insult to other one star establishments to give a one star rating to this DMV. I went to this location on a Monday at 2:00 PM and after waiting an hour and a half was told to leave because I wasn't going to get served. Then I went the following day at 11:00 AM and after waiting OUTSIDE IN THE RAIN for 3.5 hours, I was told to leave because I wasn't going to get served. These people should all be fired and replaced with people who actually do their jobs. Now, in case you think I'm being harsh, compare this to another DMV, which shall remain nameless, I got there at 12:30PM and was out by 2:45PM. That's 2 hours and 15 minutes. This is the worst DMV I ever experienced in 3 states. I have gone 3 times now to try to exchange my out of state driver's license. The first time I waited 4 hours in a snake like line in the freezing rain. I finally entered and then was told they were closing and could not help me and to come another day. I came back and was told that they had stopped giving up tickets for the day. I went back and now I was told I have to make an appointment online for 1 to 2 months from now. They have no idea about customer service nor do they care. The guys in uniform are the worst - They are not helpful but go strutting around insulting and bullying clients and making unnecessary chit chat like scolding a teenager for having ripped jeans and asking if the dog chewed her jeans. I am not sure why they are there. I miss NY. I think I want to go back. I used to get service with minimum interaction with the people working at the DMV and they never told me to come back another day. read more

Zero stars if I could. They supposedly close at 4:30. After waiting on a line outside in the heat today for over an hour, while the inside was absolutely empty by the way, the door security guard cut off the line. I waited outside in the heat for over an hour for no reason. When I asked the guard if I come tomorrow by 2pm since I can't get there earlier, if I'll also be cut from the line by their closing time of 3pm, he simply said, "You might be." There were people in line ahead of me there for about 2 hours. One lady said it took her 4 and a half hours to get her license. This is ridiculous! Meanwhile I can't resolve my issue online or via mail. The last time I went on a Saturday with someone else, we were there all day. I guess I have no choice but to get there tomorrow like an hour before they open to guarantee being seen. Either that, or I could travel to a different DMV I suppose. read more

Positives - convenient location for those using public transportation. That is about it. Negatives - insufficient waiting area results in a long line that wraps around the side of the building. While I have found the people waiting on line to be pleasant, the staff wasn't too helpful or pleasant. I don't expect much but I wouldn't mind if I felt they gave me most of their attention and made some eye contact. I would recommend the Lodi DMV for those that can drive. I arrived at the NJ DMV in North Bergen today at 6:24 AM and finished everything by 11:40 AM. The entire process for me was a little over 5 hours. I guess it's not too bad compared to other locations wherein I heard people arriving at 5AM (1AM even) to guarantee that they will be serviced. The DMV staff (two nice ladies, one in a yellow sweater and another in a charcoal gray jacket) came out at 8:10 AM to distribute the driver license forms and hand us numbers where you are asked to write down your cell number so they can text you. Please note that the North Bergen location only does driver licenses. I received my first text at 8:46 AM confirming that I am No. 74. Only then did I leave the line and wondered around the area and later on sat in my car. They said they will text us again once my number is almost up. Second text was at 10:13 AM asking me to make my way back, third text at 10:34 AM to say it's almost my turn, fourth text at 10:40 AM to say it's my turn already. You don't need to rush as they give you approximately 25 minutes from the time you receive your second text. Anyway, I'm finally in. They checked my documents as per usual, then made me sit in the waiting area until my number was called. When my number was called, I had my photo taken and voila my license has been renewed. At 11:40 AM I was exiting the DMV office. It was exhausting but the DMV staff of North Bergen made the experience somewhat better. The staff were pleasant and answered people's questions in a courteous manner. I commend them for that. I've heard of horror stories regarding nasty staff in other DMV locations. I advise people to come early because the wait outdoors is much more pleasant due to the cool weather. You wouldn't want to be in line under the hot sun. Bring a portable/folding chair so when you get weary you don't have to sit on the dirty pavement. It won't hurt also to bring a companion to talk to or something to entertain yourself with while waiting. IT DEFINITELY HELPS! I suppose food and water too if you are the hungry type. We have to renew our licenses during this pandemic and all we can do at this time is bring plenty of patience and find ways to make our grueling experience a little less painful. Again, kudos to the DMV North Bergen staff. I hope you will continue to explore more solutions to this never ending waits. read more

How many Xs do you have to go to the DMV to get your Motorcycle stamp on your Drivers license - after you've already passed the written and driving tests at the academy? Well let me count how many thus far: 1. Pay $350 spend 25 hours at a motorcycle school being yelled at take written test and driving test pass 2. Go to DMV with certifications of passing - be turned away because eye machine doesn't work - forced to go to a eye Dr for test. 3. Return with $185 eye exam results proving perfect vision - turned away because now after 2 hr line waiting to show results the "ID photo window is closed" 4. Return to take picture and get ID - turned away because I didn't have iridescent sticker- sent to previous line to get sticker - turned away because now my Eye Dr didn't write his eye exam results on the dmv's piece of paper but rather on his formal letter head and prescription pad. Sent away to return to the eye Dr to have him transpose his results onto the DMV's piece of paper ! So that I can then return to the DMV to see how much more fucking bullshit they can come up with to not give me my Motorcycle license stamp on my DL! While this location is convenient the people here are not so nice. Today was my second time here and I left completely annoyed and dissatisfied just like the first time I was there. As a homeowner in North Bergen, I am upset that this office has not had adequate customer service training. The first time I came to this office I was going to write a review but I did not because I wanted to give them another chance. What I saw today was absolutely unacceptable. First, I walk in and the security guard was not nice and did not say good morning. This man proceeds to say that my husband could not enter, only the person who was conducting the business. So my husband waits for me in the car. Then the receptionist was just as unfriendly and cold. The real kicker was this: The female security agent had a family member walk in at around 8:10-8:15. The family member, possibly her mother and her husband (who was allowed in after my husband was asked to stay outside), goes to the receptionist, gets a head nod and paperwork, and then proceeds to take her family members to the far left corner by the Vehicle Registration desk. The family then fills their paperwork out there (none of us are allowed to even fill out paperwork in line) and then is personally attended by an attendant who stopped serving people who were in line since 7:00 a.m. and remained with the family past 8:30 a.m. This worker personally attended this family. This was a gross use of preferential treatment and lack of consideration for all of the TAX PAYING homeowners who woke up early on a Saturday, stood in line for an hour and waited in several lines to be attended patiently, and respected the rules that they enforced. I wish I knew who I could complain to at the state level or county level. read more

Unlike most, my experience at this DMV was positive. I went on a weekday, about 90 min before closing. There is an on-site parking lot which I didn't realize at the time I - I figured I would need to park on the street and walked the two blocks. I had an out-of-state license which I needed to get switched over to a NJ license. I was directed to the correct line when I walked in, waited less than 5 minutes to get my paperwork, filled it out, went to a 2nd line where I waited less than 15 minutes - gave them my ID - paid them, got my picture taken - and was done. Couldn't have been easier or less stressful if I tried. All the people I spoke to were courteous, but I will say there was a lot of commotion going on in the background with people either not having the proper information, or enough funds for their transaction, or coming in too late for a road test, or not having an appointment for special services, etc. which caused a LOT of people to be shouting and in general creating a rather chaotic environment. However, that certainly was NOT the fault of anyone at the DMV. read more
