Wait line was moving fast. Even with appointment you can't check in until you fill out the application form, if you can I recommend to bring it filled out to avoid any delay at the check in. The Spanish lady attendant at window 8 was wonderful and so helpful but the black lady with short dyed blonde hair at window 17 was very rude since I approached to her. You'll need an appointment to visit this location but it's worth it. You can't check in more than 15 minutes before your appointment. They text and/or email you a barcode which you scan once you get there. They give you a number and there's a few rows of seats to wait on. There are also video screens that have the number and which counter to go to. I went to update to an enhanced ID and the whole process took less than half and hour if you come prepared. read more

Can't believe I'm rating a DMV....but my first NY DL experience in 1999 was near-traumatizing, this place was a warm hug, by comparison. The License Express location is super efficient and made the process of transitioning and upgrading my license and registering a new vehicle super easy. Lots of complexity and paperwork, but I got through it pretty easily. Made an appointment (highly recommend!) and completed all my paperwork in advance (all the forms are available online). I was in and out and under 15 minutes. Some impressive tech upgrades to the experience with online check-in and barcodes and text messaging that keeps you informed and prepared to handle things quickly. Everybody I spoke to, from the front door to photo station to the clerk, was nice and efficient. It's an organized place with lots of announcement/communication. Just pay attention to your # being called and the whole thing runs smoothly. If you don't have your stuff together, go to the regular DMV...so we don't mess this place up for everyone else. read more

Holy moly! FANTASTIC! This is the DMV? This ruins any joke about the DMV being one of Dante's circles of Hell. One walks in and is greeted by a friendly face who hands you a clipboard, reminds you to fill out the second page. Check in with my reservation bar code was a snap. And the people behind the desk were FRIENDLY! Smiling faces who actually like being there (or faking it really well). Heck, they even let me retake my photo because my smile wasn't that good I'm the first one. I was so impressed I called over the manager to let her know how amazed I was and that I am actually recommending this for anyone that needs to get their license, renew, get an ID card... All the things you can do at the DMV. The kicker my appointment was at 9 o'clock... Please see the photo showing my watch at 9:05 AM because that's when I was done. This may have been my best DMV experience ever. I was finished within an hour and the staff was very friendly. I brought a voided check to prove residency but the agent said it had to be a cancelled check processed by the bank. She solved the problem for me on the spot with an additional form. After enduring a 2.5+ hour wait at the Harlem DMV just to be told I didn't have the right documentation, I was hesitant to go back to the DMV again. This location gave me probably the best experience I've ever had, including both in and outside of NYC -- I was in and out with my new ID (at least a temporary one) in less than 20 minutes. Make an appointment online, show up with the documentation (watch out for the 'Real ID' wording on the proof of name and residence forms -- if you have an out-of-state real ID, it doesn't seem to count as a proof of your identity for some reason, which is why I had to return for this DMV trip), and, if possible, fill out the application beforehand, and you can check right in upon arrival. I was dreading a visit to the NY DMV to renew my license. I recall the last time I went through this I spent almost 7 hours waiting to get my new license. A quick google maps search and this place came up. I went prepared to be there for a few hours but to my surprise I was out in a half hour! As soon as you walk in, an employee asks what you need help with. I was directed to the clip boards with paperwork to complete. They have pens and you can sit down to complete the form. Next head up to the first window once you fill out the form and you'll get a ticket. Keep an eye out on the electronic board that lists numbers and which booth to report to when it's your turn. They don't seem to consistently announce numbers so be sure to look up at the board. If you miss your number you may need to go up again and get another number. Once at a booth, the process is simple. Hand over your old license and select the option of a real or enhanced license. I got the enhanced and it came to $110.50. They accept credit cards. You may get a new photo or keep the current one you have. The attendant prints out a temporary card for you to review the details. Hang on to this and in 2 weeks they will mail the card to you. Simple, straightforward, and efficient on a weekday afternoon. Plenty of seating, a water fountain, and may have a restroom. read more

First, the ladies working the front were loudly making fun of people (even using an affected voice, like a teenager sibling would do) for being worried if their number was already called. Their team (the processing desk ppl) jumped all over with the numbers- not just with the different beginning letter codes for a diff service but even within the same code, the numbers jumped all over. I said something to the girls about not making fun of everyone sitting there listening to them and instead of looking embarrassed, they tried to debate me that the numbers weren't jumping around. I had to actively point to the screen and show them that they were asking from UC54 (or whatever the code letters were) and then 46. Not in order. They rolled their eyes. So annoyingly bratty. When I get to the counter the woman was also unfriendly. Then she messed up my charge and runs my card twice. I can see on the CC machine that it was "approved" both times. I explain this to her and she gets a manager. The manager comes over with all the arrogance in the world and tells me that I haven't been double charged. I explain that I've seen the "approved" twice and then open my bank app to show her. She says "it's says pending - that's not a charge" I replied "of course, it's pending. This literally just happened no charge goes through immediately but I'm telling so I saw approved twice and you need to check the system) she tells me if it was charged twice then I can come back and get a refund. I explain I'm not coming back to this office for a refund- so she gives me a refund flyer that has like 30 bullet points on what I need to do and says it takes 90 days to process. Anyway- YES I WAS CHARGED TWICE. luckily I have Amex and just disputed the charge. That manager needs more skill and less arrogance and the team needs better training all around. read more

What a clown show. Two overweight, sweaty security guards blocked the front like it was Fort Knox cracked the front door and asked if i had an appointment. The answer was no, and I asked the 400lb protector of the forms to move so I could get a number. "Appoitnments only" he barked. I said that must be a new policy since i called THIS MORNING and they told me to come on in. We argued and I simply wasnt in the mood today so I aksed him to move so I could get a few forms that i needed to handle my business and he would NOT LET ME IN to get forms!!! Normally I would have made my displeasure known but I had to laugh. Our govt agencies are a joke as are many of the people working there (theres no appoinbtments until september. Imagine that). Third worlds nonsense in the biggest city in the world. Today I went to the DMV and was very unpleasantly surprised when I saw that an African-American manager was yelling, insulting, and throwing the documents of a young woman who had come to apply for a Real ID. I myself am an immigrant -- I came to the U.S. over 30 years ago -- but I have never seen such a scene before. This manager threw the woman's documents, nearly tore her Ukrainian passport while demanding to know where her visa was. The woman explained that it was a new passport. This manager should know that in the state of New York, it is not acceptable to call people "illegals." And if the woman has valid TPS status and a work permit, that means she is in the country legally. I'm a grown man, but I was shaken by how this woman -- a manager -- screamed at and insulted the girl. She should be fired. read more

I have never met a more foolish and uneducated woman than the manager with dreadlocks tied in a ponytail. If she used logic, she would understand that if the U.S. government issued a work permit valid until 2028, it's obvious the U.S. government accepted the person's asylum application documents. Only very foolish people try to argue about things they don't understand. And yes, if I have TPS and a work permit, it's obvious that Ukrainians can have two or more statuses in the U.S. This could have been easily found out by using Google. I can't afford this mistake to go to the DMV to renew my driver's license at 7:30 am in the morning! I didn't have time to have coffee and I looked totally not awake; and I biked there and my hair looked terrible - I can't afford my ID photo looks this ugly for the next decade. What can I do now?!!! I made this mistake and scheduled it so early all because we all used to have this experience of waiting at DMV for hours, right? But I completely forgot that they would take my photo for the renewal. And I completely overlooked how efficient this DMV location is. Everything was in seamlessly flow and staff were super helpful and nice. They smiled to me all the time though too bad they didn't allow me to smile when taking my ID photo... The whole appointment took just 10 minutes and then they discharged me, but truly and literally left me in huge panic - I have to wait in anxiety for 3 - 4 weeks to see the new ID. I know a lot of guys explain to the police officers why their ID photos are so ugly by saying that they have been waiting at DMV for hours before the shot so that's why. I can't use this excuse anymore and I can only say "Sir, it's ugly because I went to the DMV at 7:30 am and I hope you understand..." Finished my 7:30am appointment and, like so many others, I want to sing the praises of this DMV location. I made a reservation and got there about 15 minutes early and checked in online. They automatically give you your number and send it to your phone, if you provided your phone number in your reservation. Doors opened promptly at 7:30. I had completed my renewal/upgrade form online and printed it out prior to my visit. My number was called about 2 minutes after arriving. The whole appointment took 20 minutes and I was out of there (it would have been a few minutes quicker if I hadn't needed to take a second photo due to a partially illegible signature). What a breath of fresh air when it comes to a New Yorkers least favorite place to visit - the DMV. I made an appointment online for the Real ID and showed up about 15 minutes early. There was a small line outside but once I joined the line an employee came out and said if I already had the form filled out (which I did) I could wait inside. Social distancing markers are everywhere and only every other window is open. I was taken by the first desk within 5 minutes of me arriving. The second I sat with my ticket, my number was called. The employee who handled my transaction was friendly and fast. I was in and out in under 10 minutes. They are taking photos, where you quickly rip off your mask then put it back on once the flash goes off. If you come prepared with all of your paperwork, it will be a painless experience which is nearly unheard of at most NYS DMVs. It might be out of the way for some but it's right by Penn which is convenient. Totally worth the extra time spent traveling to not stand outside in the cold in a line around the block, like I've seen at some other DMV locations. read more

The door person told me to fill out a form before I sat down, which took about 10 minutes. My number was then called for a photo, and another person validated my form all within 7 minutes. The most dysfunctional experience I've ever had in my life was here. For years, I just walked into this place got a ticket and went to a window. Not anymore. The moment you walk in the door you're asked to make an appointment by scanning a QR code, which takes you to nothing but a very generic page for the entire state of New York... instead of the DMV location where you are AT! Meaning... You have to navigate, navigate, navigate on your cell phone while guards are screaming at you to get outside (where it is (30°) Ever try navigating the mindnumbing website of New York State? ? Where you are circling around because of the worst possible layout imaginable for a website? if you don't have an actual appointment. There is nothing "express" about this place. I visited the DMV at this location, 145 W. 30th Street, also known as License Express. They didn't disappoint. I was in and out within 30 minutes. Your time and experience may vary, depending on what you're there to do. I was there just for a license renewal, which may be the reason I finished fairly quickly. It wasn't crowded when I went at 11:00 am during the week. I would strongly suggest you make an appointment online prior to going, follow the instructions, check the fee schedules, and have all your paperwork. It'll make your experience much more pleasant. These guys break all stereotypes of the DMV! I was in and out within 20 minutes. I came on a Wednesday afternoon at 1pm to swap my out of state driver's license for a New York license. I made a reservation ahead of time, which was super easy to do. I appreciated the 24 hour reminder email that I got ahead of my appointment. I was even was able to postpone my appointment the day of for the next day, which was a huge surprise to me. Usually the waitlist to get a DMV appointment in any place i've been is weeks. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted and directed on what to do and where to go - no guesswork at all which was appreciated. I did not fill out my form ahead of time, so they provided me with one and I completed it. After this, they gave me a number to wait in line. My wait was 8 minutes. After being called, I handed over my forms, they took my picture, and my entire experience wrapped up in 8 more minutes. I was impressed by the professionalism, speed, and efficiency of this center. Line up to to tell the person what you're there for, you will get forms and a number. If you are doing licence renewals, just fill out the form you got in the mail. 2. Wait for number to be called, it will light up on the TV screen and you will hear the announcement saying your number and which window to go to. 3. Give you stuff to the clerk, and you can read off the vision test poster to the clerk. Clerk will then ask if you want a new photo, if yes you just take it right there. My first time here. I walked over to the security guard and ask where to begin. 1) As you come in, you will see people on line. This is the information desk. All your questions will be answered and you will be directed where to go next and the lay of the land here. Here for license renewal. Went up to the desk. Staff member said have to fill out the form. The letter that was sent to you at the bottom needs to be filled out. So I went to sit down- Sign name and answered Yes or No questions. Went back online and got a ticket with a number. 2) Take a seat and your number will be listed on the screen and they also make an announcement when your number is up. 3) Head for the counter and I got a vision test-right there or you can have your eye doctor fill out form. Then I made a payment and got a temporary paper license till the new one comes in the mail. 4) Had the option to take a new photo. I prefer to keep my old picture therefore I did not have to go to another step. I was out the door. Quick and painless process and the staff is so friendly. They even asked that I write a Yelp review. I then took pictures of the center. Some other staff said no pictures allowed. Always ask permission when taking photos which I did with the security guard and showed him what I took. He was fine. I know the protocol when taking photos in public places and at events. Always ask permission and get approval before snapping a photo and posting it. I was done like less than 30 minutes. Facility is like brand new, well maintained and clean.
