I'm only giving it 4 stars because come on, no one likes the DMV, this one is my preference although it's further from my home !I'll tell you why , the staff Friendly and professional ! Make an appointment and you won't be disappointed. This DMV had the quickest available appointments in SD and it's a newer building so it's nicer. The people here are nice too and it's not dark or dingy and weird smelling. I won't go to any other DMV from now on and I'll ALWAYS make an appointment first. read more

Never thought I would give 5 stars for the DMV, but they deserve it because I was able to get my Real ID Driver's License in under two hours, WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT on a Friday morning. I came here last week. When I arrived, the non appointment line only had 5 people in front of me and I waited less than 5 minutes only. After getting checked in, I was directed to go to the back to hand in the Real ID documents that were required, which was a fast process. After verifying everything I was given a number to be called and had to wait at the sitting area in the lobby. While sitting there my number was 20 away from the number they were serving. I thought I'm going to be here for a while. I was wrong, LOL. I waited only 30 mins for my number to be called. When I was finished at the window I was directed to go in the back to take the written test, which is on the computer. Easy to use, instructions is pretty straightforward. After I passed, they took my picture and said 2-11 weeks to come in the mail. All under 2 hours. Not bad for a DMV. Quick service and employees weren't rude, but nice. I think they only get an attitude if you come unprepared. This DMV is nice too. I would recommend coming here if you are going to get a Real ID. read more

Worst experience ever. I've been coming here since they've open this location and today has been my worst time visiting! I had an appointment and showed up early, was greeted very rudely by a lady who was checking the appointment list and supposedly screening people, but I wasn't given a temp check or asked any questions, just given a sticker that said "I've been screened" then I went inside to the back for a new drivers license and the young girl back there had a attitude and was very short with everyone. I did what I needed on the touchscreen, "Which wasn't sanitized after each use!!!" Then I sat and waited for my number to be called to window #17, which was another rude and short answered lady. Here and the lady working at window #22 cared more about showing each other pictures on their phones of what to eat and sing to their music, than helping the people who had taken time off from work, just to come to DMV! It was my day off, but I felt bad for the other people who had to deal with all these rude people. You would think that these employees would have to have some kind of customer service training, or common courtesy!!! read more

Can't believe I'm actually rating the dreaded dmv. But this dmv is the biggest and fastest in San Diego. Today i waited 35 minutes before they opened and took care of my business an hour later. First time to San Ysidro DMV. Made the appt there because I could get in two weeks faster. Easy to find and lots of parking at 9:30. Line was quick and the wait to get to a window short. After that, pure fun. Should have noted the guy's name because he had personality plus and was very friendly, all smiles. The whole place was organized and no one waiting along walls and whatever space findable. Maybe, this place needs to be kept a secret. read more

Garbage. I made an appt. First they give me a non-appt number and I had to come back and ask for a correct ticket. Then the lady didn't know what she was doing. Didn't even look at the VINs. As I walk up to stand in line since my son was already in line one of the employees starts speaking to me from a far rudely mentioning if I was screened? Doesn't mention the type of screening so I replied back "no", so he tells me I need to before standing in line. So, I walk towards the tent to get screened and it's COVID screening. Now this employee first asks if I had an appointment and I said "no", then she tells me that I need to go back in line and I'll get screened when I get closer?? As I walk back into line I see the same rude employee from earlier and he tells me you need to get screened (ones who have been screened get a sticker you need to wear) of course I didn't have one. I tell him I was told to get back in line and again rudely he thinks he can raise his tone of voice to me well that didn't go well since I spoke to him just as rudely!! I walked back to get screened and I told her I was sent back to get screened by another employee and she says "oh, I didn't know he was sending people"? What the F$&@!!! I told her you need some better communication with each other around here! Anyhow, this facility is nice however the employees are RUDE and need some more training on what their process is or find another job if your unhappy......bottom line!!! read more

So I get there without an appt to get a transfer title and registration of a newly purchased motorcycle. I know I am going to be waiting a while, I mean its CA DMV... So 45 minutes in line to get a number, and 3 hours more to get to the counter. I even left during the 3 hour wait to get some food and Starbucks. So i get to the counter and meet Tom (who will not give his last name, obviously because he knows he SUCKS) who processes my transfer and title quite politely, but at the end said that I need to bring my motorcycle by to have the vin checked. I said, why didn't someone tell me that before? He said I can't drive if its not registered. I said that it IS registered for another six months. I said why didn't anyone tell me, nothing on the website about this?! I could have ran home and gotten the motorcycle or the out of state registration at any point in the last THREE HOURS. He said the front desk doesn't tell anyone because if people leave and miss there number than the complain that they missed there number. i was like, WTF??!!!!! They have one responsibility after they get a number and that is to wait for the freaking number to be called. But its the front desk and counters that tell or ask the necessary questions to make sure we have the right paperwork! I said, can I come right back I live three minutes away. He said that I would have to get another number. WHAT? I have to burn another four hours to finish paperwork that the DMV employees didn't have the courtesy to verify. Well, Tom, keep your head up your ASS and continue to ignore process control improvement. CA DMV SUCKS because the people who work there have lost their customer service attitude. This is my go to dmv from now on. I had to make an appointment to get my license renewed. The earliest appointment I could get was this location. So, my appointment was at 11:45 but I came late. There was a long line that was outside of the door but thankfully I had an appointment and there was no line. I came in and got checked in the lady at the front desk was so nice and didn't mind that I was late. Anyways I only filled out some paperwork and sat down to wait for my number to be called. I only sat down for less than 5 mins and I was already getting called. Took my picture and was done. Literally that whole trip was 20 minutes tops! Definitely recommend this DMV. Make an appointment though!! But even then the line for non appointments did seem like it was going by fast. Plus the staff is very nice. Would come here again! read more

pros... had to go here twice now and it is just great, so fast, oh did i just say a CA DMV office as being fast, and friendly to boot? yes, yes i did. well this was all before the fulow happened. might be different now. well first pointer is to go online and schedule an appointment. if you do this one step you will be in and out in just a matter of 20 minutes at most. i was here to resolve a ticket from a car i sold a while back. apparently even if you sold it and all the paperwork is done correctly, you as the former owner will still get any notices for the car you sold. of course i didn't know this, and was freaking out looking for the paperwork to prove that i sold the car, and that it's not my problem. well the lines go fast if you have an appointment, in total, was in and out in less than 20 minutes, that's from the time i locked my car door to the the time i open it back up to drive away. cons...can be slow, but still faster then other DMV's. get here in the morning or you will be stuck in line. oh pray to the DMV gods that you get a nice person who knows what they are doing. luckily most of the people here are pros and have been working here when the office used to be on del sol blvd way back. read more

The worst wait time ever. Waited an hour just for vehicle inspection to take less than 5 minutes after you're already required to pay $55 for a smog inspection. I unfortunately witnessed the cutest elderly man walk up to counter smiling to get his picture taken by the "real Id documentation check " the woman behind counter directed him to end of line. He's elderly. They should have consideration for the elderly and have priority and not have to wait in these rediculous lines...DMV San Ysidro is NOT disabled friendly....I would sue them...As he came around corner he tripped on round plastic which holds these dividers for the lines. The man fell hit his head very very hard landing face first, my husband and I ran to pt and no one else helped for a while. The woman behind counter just looked until my husband yelled call 911. They need to make changes and train their staff. I had blood on my hands and they had nothing for me to clean them with... Sad. I hope the man is ok. Funny thing is, I'm actually excited to spread the word about how quick and easy it was to renew my drivers license. I scheduled an appointment and was in and out in less than 30 minutes. I'm the first to complain about every Government Agency, but these guys actually created a system that works. I came to this DMV to apply for a CDL because I had been very happy with this DMV before. I showed up for my appointment 20 minutes early, I was helped right away. The person who assisted me with the application was pleasant and friendly. I received a number and was called within 15 minutes. Walking up to the window I noticed another gentleman was still being helped so I stood by near to be next. The woman got up out of her seat to help 4 other people without any acknowledgment to me. I was stunned, she went to sit down at a desk far back from where I was standing. I WAITED FOR ANOTHER 20 MINUTES!! Another employee asked if I needed stickers and I said, "no, I had been called to window 25 and have been waiting for 20 minutes". Finally, the woman came to me and asked what my number was. I told her that I've been waiting and my number had already been called. She was so at fault that she said she would help me. Like as if she was doing me a favor!! .. she took all my info then said that I wouldn't be able to apply for a commercial license because I didn't have proof of residence and she was about to write on my vehicle registration that it was a POBox. I said, "Just give me back my information so that I can leave". She was snarky and said have a nice day. I said, " I had been happy with this DMV until I met YOU!" And then left. Decent DMV, it's a newer place, very busy but things are moving. There's decent parking, but also a lot fo people so arrive with that in mind. Everyone was polite, only downside was the men's bathroom was under having some repairs done but I was able to get everything I needed in about 2 hours. The absolute biggest joke of a DMV! Waited 30 minutes in line, have been waiting 2 hours in my seat and still have 20 more numbers until I am called. I'm looking at the line right now and it is literally out the door wrapped around the building! I don't understand how the clerks can sit and have conversations with the person at their counter knowing there is like 300 other people waiting patiently to get in and out.. They want to sit and talk and smile and talk about stuff that has nothing to do with what they're here for.... I went to this DMV yesterday without an appointment because I wanted my paperwork taken care of right away. It was the longest time I've waited in line and seated before I was called to Window 16: 45 minutes total. The woman working there could not have been more friendly or personable, even though it was mid-afternoon and her job must be boring. Unfortunately, I cannot praise the system outside for giving driver's license tests and inspecting vehicles. There were two lines, one for each of these needs, and only ONE employee taking care of the dozens of cars in line. Plus, there is no appointment system for these tasks. Imagine waiting in your car in the hot sun for the woman to go through the whole 15-20 minutes driver's test with someone, then spend 10 minutes doing a vehicle inspection on another car, and then conducting another long driver's test.... all while you're car #6 in one of the two lines!! Although she was nice, she didn't even apologize for the horrible wait. Completely unacceptable arrangement, and we were prisoners! There seemed to be some type of manager wandering about, but I never saw him help anybody. The inside of this DMV seems fairly well organized, but no one seems to care about the outside car lines. If you have to take a car driving test or have a vehicle inspected, I would recommend going to this DMV first thing in the morning midweek when they open. Still, I have to admit that the San Ysidro DMV is the nicest in San Diego county. I drive out of my way to go here vs. the hellholes in Chula Vista or Clairemont. Always check the Wait Times online before heading to any of these, and then add extra time for good measure. read more

Schedule an appointment, just like any other DMV it is packed an hour before it even opens. With an appointment I was 2nd person in line, I was greeted in a timely fashion and assisted with taking care of my license renewal. There is plenty of parking onsite or on the street at this location but it is very far south and kind of off the beaten path. If your down to make a little road trip schedule an appointment here and get in and out quick and maybe have some places to visit down in south SD to make a trip out of it. read more

Best DMV in the County This since this place opened, it is the only DMV in San Diego County that I visit. It is a welcomed and air-conditioned replacement to the old San Ysidro office. I have been to this location four times without problem, no appointment, and minimal-to-no wait. Arrive in the morning when the branch opens to avoid long afternoon lines. I know what you are thinking, San Ysidro, but it will be okay--the parking lot is large, gated, and there is a security guard--you will be fine. The staff are friendly and competent, a rarity at most government offices. Even if you live north of the 8, it is worth the drive. read more

We even filled out the application while we were there and there was a gentleman helping everyone who had questions.
