I will tell you this story: We met with Bret Schiller (seems like a nice guy) and gave him our plans that was drawn up by our architect so he can give us an estimate. We didn't hear from him for a few days, i started to get worried. So we called him and left messages. he didn't call back. Turns out he had gone out of town for a week or so and neglected to tell us. Fine.. no big deal i thought. i'm sure he was busy and it was an honest mistake. But thats not all.... He informs us that he has LOST our plans! Needless to say, we did not go with him to do our remodel. He did apologize profusely and offered to pay for new plans drawn up. And we were leaning towards another contractor anyways since we thought he dissappeared on us so weren't going to hire him anyways. So no huge harm. But just wanted to share the small experience.

Every single person - Chris Bridgford, Alejandro, Stephanie Walker (hands down the best ever!!), Jr, and even the contractors Bridgford carefully vetted and worked with - was absolutely amazing. We didn't need such an extensive makeover so we were concerned that Chris wouldn't want to take our project. Luckily for us, we didn't have to worry about that--he not only took our project but prioritized us and expedited so that we could move in on time. We thought our house was in pretty good shape overall, but as we started fixing things, we found some funk that had to corrected or updated to code. Chris and his team took it all in stride and didn't mind that we kept adding on things here and there. He would come on site regularly to make sure his team was delivering what he promised and doing quality work. He would also check on the subcontractors' work to make sure we were happy. The best thing about Chris is his vision and good taste. He recommended some things that we hadn't thought of (that either cost the same/not much more) that turned out really great and made a huge difference. I hired Ricardo based on recommendations and a few small repair jobs he did for my rental…read moreproperties last year. He said he had built two ADUs in San Jose, so I believed he was capable. I also chose him because he initially seemed honest, responsive, and willing to fix issues quickly. Unfortunately, my experience on a larger project has been very disappointing. Our addition and renovation project started in February, and as of today the framing is still not completed. I have already paid 85% of the framing cost and 100% of the footing, but both scopes still have unfinished items. Several framing areas were built incorrectly, and the footing also has incomplete work. The window and door openings were not framed to the correct sizes even though the windows and doors have already been ordered. There have been multiple quality issues along the way. Some of the framing and plumbing work did not meet code and required 2-3 rounds of corrections during inspections. I brought in other builders and experienced subcontractors to look at the work, and they shared similar concerns about the workmanship. The stucco work he previously did for me also turned out poorly. In the past week, the jobsite was barely staffed -- one worker on Tuesday, two on Wednesday, and three on Friday and three on Sat-- despite many remaining items still unfinished. Most of the past weeks, he only has 2-3 people on our job site. Ricardo is disapproved as he does not respond to my calls or texts and did not come to the jobsite. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend hiring Ricardo for construction projects. I am now looking into filing a legal claim with the state licensing board regarding the issues on my project.

Reliant Construction: The Remodel Masters!…read more I can't recommend Reliant Construction highly enough! They've helped us transform our San Jose home with three major projects in the last 3 years. Right after we bought our house, Chris and his team revamped our entire electrical system (LED update), plumbing (update to copper pipes) and gave the house an entire fresh paint job. It's been over 4 years since then and everything still feels modern, efficient, and safe. Later on, we called Chris again when we wanted to upgrade our two bathrooms, it was a complex build, including structural updates as we discovered some of the floor joists were rotted. They handled it flawlessly and our second bathroom remodel was just as impressive. The quality of finishes are simply stunning, also heated floors :) Finally, Reliant also updated our backyard deck, which involved removing the really old wood flooring and updating it with composite decking boards and electrical. The team led by Chris, are true professionals. They're reliable, deliver the job on time and on budget and communicate clearly. Chris and team were able to help us replace the tile throughout, glass doors, get a custom vanity, new lighting, and of course our fancy new toilet.
