The staff is stretched thin and being a shelter, there is only so much they can do to accommodate every pup/cat that comes in. It seems like the staff truly cares about the animals and have been friendly. They charge different fees for different ages, often run lower rates when they are getting more crowded, etc. You can also get a pup for the day, just to get them out of the shelter for a few hours. They are trying to help the community as best they can, but we need to continue to help support them as much as we can.

They told me that my dog was completely fine, even though he was clearly showing signs of neurological impairment. Today, I took him back to our primary care, who immediately rushed us to a neurologist, who scanned him and noticed exactly what I was describing right away. I am facing putting him to sleep or beginning an ongoing neurological treatment for the rest of his life. He has vision loss, tremors, high fever, and CLEAR neurological impairment. I was not listened to, I was not able to go back with my dog, and they were so outrageously wrong I question whether they gave him an exam. I'd do a negative review if I could. And for the cherry on top. When the neurologist veterinarian called their office to obtain information from our visit last night, they claimed he's not in the system. Unbelievable. DO NOT GO HERE!

In town longer than anticipated we began running low on prescription dog food. I called asking if we could purchase a bag. Initial response was that they couldn't without seeing our dog. I asked if our current vet in TN sent a script, if they could fulfill it. Yes, they could. Next day they wanted me to make an appointment in order to get the food. Insane. It was a stressful time and not being able to get the special food our dog needed just added to our anxiety. This occurred months ago and after reflection I am still angry about this. Particularly since 1) when I ordered online I noticed that this same clinic had provided an unlimited approval for this prescription. And 2) When this was our vet, our other dog was on injectable heart worm treatment and the tech overdosed our dog by so much a future vet commented that our dog may not ever need heartworm treatment again. Cannot express how much I do not recommend trusting this clinic to provide quality care for your pet.

First, they have a note that our dog is leash aggressive and is choosey about her dog friends, so they always make sure no dogs are in the lobby when we bring her in. Second, they are so sweet to Annie even though she can be protective about certain procedures. They think of everything and make sure we're prepared. Third, everyone there really takes their time to explain things to us even when we have a thousand questions. We appreciate their communication more than they know! A bonus: Annie was put under anesthesia for her procedure, and we noticed when we got home that they clipped her nails while she was out!! We got a good laugh out of that and were so thankful for that attention to detail and extra service. She hates getting her nails clipped, and we're so glad they took the opportunity to go above and beyond.

Most vets in Charleston, I have found, create expensive and (often) unnecessary diagnostic workups and put no thought into the clinical repercussions of the diagnostic findings. Charleston Animal Society actually recommended it and have partnered with local vets to offer a free first appointment to get a second opinion on the health of your new best friend. I was thrilled to see Simply Spay and Neuter as one of the options. After completing the adoption process, I made an appointment to come in. I was surprised to see a new Dr come in for our appointment. I was always such a fan of Dr McTavish that I was a bit skeptical at first and asked if she was available. I was informed that she's only in the office a couple times a week these days and mostly for surgeries. It turns out Dr Clarke and Foye are purchasing the office and they are currently in a transition phase. I have to say that by the end of Finley's appointment my skepticism had gone out the window. Dr Clarke left me with an assured feeling that my pups would continue to get the best and affordable care in the area that I've come to love from SS&N. It's good to see that even if Dr McTavish is on the way out, that the culture of what made this office so great will continue to stay. It also seems that they will be making improvements to offer new products and procedures as they'll be converting into a full veterinary hospital. I'm looking forward to developing a new relationship with Dr Clarke (and Dr Foye) in the future!
