Still five stars! I've been taking Mollie to Dr McTavish for years since 2013 so naturally when I adopted a new pup, I wanted to take him in for a checkup. Charleston Animal Society actually recommended it and have partnered with local vets to offer a free first appointment to get a second opinion on the health of your new best friend. I was thrilled to see Simply Spay and Neuter as one of the options. After completing the adoption process, I made an appointment to come in. I was surprised to see a new Dr come in for our appointment. I was always such a fan of Dr McTavish that I was a bit skeptical at first and asked if she was available. I was informed that she's only in the office a couple times a week these days and mostly for surgeries. It turns out Dr Clarke and Foye are purchasing the office and they are currently in a transition phase. I have to say that by the end of Finley's appointment my skepticism had gone out the window. Dr Clarke left me with an assured feeling that my pups would continue to get the best and affordable care in the area that I've come to love from SS&N. It's good to see that even if Dr McTavish is on the way out, that the culture of what made this office so great will continue to stay. It also seems that they will be making improvements to offer new products and procedures as they'll be converting into a full veterinary hospital. I'm looking forward to developing a new relationship with Dr Clarke (and Dr Foye) in the future! read more

We have taken our pet to Pleasant Pet Care for several years. We agree with other reviewers about the friendliness of staff and the attentiveness of the doctors and staff to our pets and us. We appreciate the time they take at each visit -- no rushed appointments! There were times that we needed a visit right away, and they worked us in when necessary. Staff went to great length to find a compounding pharmacy in an attempt to find a substitute way to deliver a drug she needed since she can out-smell any ingestible we try to give her. Her chronic kidney issues eventually did get the better of her as a senior dog, but we were pleased with the care she received during the worst of it. They followed up each visit with a phone call at every turn. If I had any quibble, I would hope for a bit more attentiveness to office processes. My 14 year old dog developed a seizure disorder about a week ago. The emergency vet was great but then we had to find a regular vet for ongoing care. Until now a low cost vaccination vet worked fine because Buster had never been to the vet except for vaccines and normal meds. The prime reason I chose Pleasant was their spot at the top of search results and, "Oh, hey, they're five minutes from my house. Yay." I could not be more happy with Pleasant after our visit. The people there were... really, I strain to find fulsome enough praise for the staff. Dr Clark was all I could hope for in a vet. Admittedly this is in the context of my general view that, as a class, vets are among the best humans on the planet. But, Dr Clark is right up there at the top of the veterinarian tribe. The low cost vet was fine until now but given our present situation Pleasant will be Buster's vet going forward. I even got a followup phone call the next day. I recall that happening once before, maybe twice, in 30 years of dogs. You wont be sorry if you choose them. read more

Did not know Dr McTavish had retired. I brought my baby in this new business for rectal pain. The tech was not very friendly and she had little bedside manner. Her name was Jessica. The Vet, Dr Clark, finally came in after some time and acted in a professional and caring manner. I did notice,when Dr Clark came in, the tech suddenly changed personalities and started acting caring and polite. Will not be back. read more

We went in looking for a second opinion on what our other vet thought was a hernia that they would charge us almost $500 to repair.. Since I just adopted my pup a few weeks ago, I was not willing to have her go through surgery if it was not absolutely necessary. Enter Simply Spay & Neuter to save the day... The vet assured us that it was totally fine and could be caused from the suture from her being spayed. We are so relieved to have a vet who was actually looking out for the safety of our pup and not just wanting to cash a check. The vet took about 2 minutes to deduce that her "hernia" was fine and just to monitor it, so we were in and out in under 10 minutes. I was thinking to myself that if we had to pay an office fee we totally would, but since it was such a short visit I would be surprised. To our delight, the vet didn't charge us the office visit fee! What a great experience and I will definitely be back again because they have the best interest of my Tater Tot in mind! read more

The staff at Pleasant Pet Care is awesome! Katie was so helpful when I brought my cat in for de-matting and nail trimming, and my dog for his annual check up. Dr. Casey is fantastic! Pleasant Pet Care is not a very pleasant place to take your pet to. I now know, what my poor Daschsund, Rosy, died from, Canine Influenza. She should have been hospitalized and put on oxygen. Rosy was only 5 years old.  I have been totally lost without my loving fur baby.  Even one of their assistants said she should have been hospitalized and put on oxygen.  Rosy was not just a dog, she was my companion.  I have been disabled for over 10 years and can no longer work. Rosy was my best companion during the day. I have always taken very good care of my dogs.  I had Molly for over 19 years.  I rescued Cooper from another home and had him for 17 years.  I have been searching everywhere locally to find another Doxie that is young and can be with me for more than 5 years. I have looked at all of the rescue missions for dogs, locally and in the surrounding states. But I have had no luck in finding a puppy or young dachshund to adopt and purchase at a reasonable price. I really miss Dr. McTavish, I know she loved all the animals that she took care of.  She was the best Vet that I have had in a very long time. I was born and raised here in Mt. Pleasant. It does not matter where you grew up, but all the businesses that come to Mount Pleasant, think that everyone living here is RICH!!!! This is why a lot of businesses need to realize that not everyone living in Mount Pleasant has a lot of money. I have watched several Vet Practices open here and they are very reasonable in the beginning. But within 1-2 years they start raising their prices so high that most of the local residents can not afford to pay vet bills. This is a very true fact, with only one exception, Dr. McTavish, who opened Simply Spay and Neuter on Johnnie Dodds Blvd. Dr. McTavish truly did care for all of our furbabies and did not try to have a get RICH PRACTICE!! She retired and sold her clinic to 2 veterinarians from Texas. So here we go again, the practice started out stating that things would not change. But that was a TOTAL LIE!! Within a weeks' time, I ended up paying over $450.00 for x-rays, medicine, and office visits. The day after her last visit, my Rosy, went to her water bowl and died. I know there is one other Vet in downtown Charleston, Dr. Patrick. But you have to just go and wait to see this vet, in a room full of other pets and their owners. You never how long you will have to wait. Not a real ideal situation for someone in my condition. read more

I have a new puppy who ended up getting sick last minute before his first appointment with a new vet. I'd had a couple bad experiences with places giving bad information and grossly overcharging. Not to mention no one would see him last minute when he had a simple upper respiratory infection. Pleasant Pet Care was awesome, the staff was super friendly, welcoming, and Dr. Foye was both knowledgeable and fair. Its not my style to leave a bad review, but think its important for pet owners to read reviews prior to choosing a vet. This place is ok. I think it would be fine to use for minor issues and vaccinations if needed. I would not recommend for any issues that could be more complicated. My rescue kittens are patients at Animal Medical Center. I had researched formerly Mt Pleasant Spay & Neuter, and was excited to find Dr. McTavish. I took them for their spay surgeries to save some money, and what a nightmare, never again. Dr McTavish unfortunately was no longer there, but two new partners. Both of my kitten's surgical wounds opened up, and one became infected requiring several visits and 2 rounds of antibiotics. I took off 10 days from work to be home with them post op, put them in onesies and in a small room during recovery to reduce jumping/trauma to reduce risk of wound dehiscence. None of these instructions were given to me, but things that i had researched prior to surgery to give my kitties the easiest recovery. The vet tech at Pleasant Pet care that we saw for follow up visits was anything but professional. I asked to see the Doctor several times, and it was only the last follow up visit where i called before the appointment to request to see the Doctor did we actually get to see him.The vet tech was very condescending and acted like a know it all, but acted otherwise when the Doctor walked in. Because of the vet tech, ?jessica? and my kitten's post op complications that were unexpected for a pretty routine surgery, I would rather pay more to know my babies are getting the very best care at Animal Medical Center than to return to Pleasant Pet Care. read more

Dr. Martha McTavish.. is phenomenal. I found her via recommendation. I have a bulldog with frequent health issues & was completely broke from paying the prices at my previous vets. They were great but the prices astronomical. Today I had Bilateral Entropian Sx done for $380 which included both upper & lower lids, pain medication, eye drops & abx. The previous vet quoted me $1500 per eye plus taxes & meds. McTavish is direct, thorough & if she can't do the job will refer to someone else. She is a realist & discusses cost when looking at various health care options for our dog. This is my third visit here in a few short weeks & every time I go I'm reminded why. The office visit alone is half the previous vet. This has helped out so much considering the expense of owning a bulldog. I'm so glad I made the change even though I felt guilty for doing so. If you are wanting to change vets, I strongly recommend this practice. read more

We loved Dr. McTavish she was unique, engaged, responsive and did her own follow-up calls to ensure that out pets were doing well. It was a sad day for many of us when she retired. Sadly, the new guys are charging by the pound and are focused on profit. My guys are not due for their annual check up for several months when I called for a refill of their heart worm and flea medication. I was told the technician would have to decide if she could approve it. Worse, they didn't respond to the pharmacy ( which is considerably cheaper). Instead they sent me I direct mail piece offering to sell me medications from "their pharmacy". Clearly they are far more focused on profit then on caring for the lives with which we have entrusted them. So unethical. Because I care more for my pets than their bottom line I paid the 200% mark up. We are in the process of transferring care. read more

I appreciate that what they provide is expanding so I won't need to take my Lizzy girl elsewhere for tests. They were extremely compassionate when my Cal was sick. Great place! Caring staff with a great vet. The name is a bit misleading - they are a full service veterinarian's office. They have walk in hours twice a week I believe for vaccinations which is very convenient. And,..... their pricing is reasonable. Our older dog needed some teeth extracted, so I first checked with the vet we had been using on Daniel island and got the price quote. Thought it was kinda high, so asked around and Simply Spay & Neuter was recommended. Got a second opinion from them and the price quote was about 1/3 of what the DI place quoted. Quite a huge difference! So, while it seems a bit cold to shop around for a veterinarian it makes sense. About to do the same about a dentist for myself. read more

When we heard that Dr. Martha McTavish it was bittersweet, she is a amazing in her field and a kind person on top of that so we were nervous when we heard new doctors were taking over her practice. I can assure you there is no need to be nervous, both Dr. Clark and Dr. Foye and their support staff helped my family deal with the recent loss of our 15 year old cat, Black Bean. They were compassionate, knowledgeable and understanding which is so needed at a time like that. So just picking up a puppy and there are tons of excellent veterinarian practices in the area however this one is outstanding! Proficient, professional, and well rounded to treat all of your animals care. She does not nor will not do unnecessary treatments. Very reasonably priced, and has drop in hours Tuesday and Thursday. Ridiculously convenient and was impressed with her proficiency in dealing with a rather sick puppy! Now he's doing outstanding and we will be returning customers. read more

Dr. McTavish and her staff are so wonderful! We were under a mandatory evacuation order last week for the storm, and needed to get paperwork for our dogs to board them asap. I know they were slammed with many others in the same boat, but Jenn was polite and expedient with our request, and sent our records almost immediately! Then we realized we needed shots for both dogs in case we had to board them, so we came in and Dr. McTavish took care of them calmly and attentively, even though there was a busy waiting room. She is so caring for our dogs. I cannot say enough great things about the amazing care my pets get. She is always spot on. read more

My cat has been limping so I called SS&N to see if they would take a look. I drove right over and waited for only about 10 mins. The staff are all very nice to work with and my cat was compliant while Dr. McTavish manipulated my pet's leg and diagnosed the problem. She didn't rush me somewhere to get an x-ray, CT scan or have blood work or an MRI. I'd say she considers the individual situation better than some vets. The clinic doesn't do x-rays but does just about every other outpatient procedure on dogs and cats, so don't hesitate to call them for most non-serious needs. Even if they don't cover the service they'll refer you to another vet - one they would trust, so you can feel confident it's a good referral. They are very efficient, professional and caring, so if you've just moved here or are looking for another vet, do give them a call. read more

The prices are fair and the flea medicine was less expensive than the vet I went to before. My dog had an ear infection and they were really gentle with her and she is doing well with the medicine they sent me home with.
