Prior to tearing down a commercial building we had all utilities removed including the dumpsters. The dumpster enclosure (about 12'x20') was unlocked for a couple months and homeless and other people started tossing junk in and around the enclosure to a depth of about 15" of trash. Called Doctor Junk and within the hour they were there to clean everything out. About 45 minutes later it was all gone and broom clean. The crew were friendly and hard-working. Dr. Junk transformed our home clean-out experience! Our family needed to clean out our home of 56 years prior to our Dad putting it on the market. You can imagine our trepidation as we approached this. From the minute Bob (the Dr.) answered his phone while on a vacation cruise, to the moment he and his awesome team pulled away after hauling three full loads of rubbish to the dump and donations to Goodwill, it was clear that Dr. Junk was going to make the ordeal more efficient, manageable and even a little bit fun. I was expecting a truck and strong men, and I was not disappointed. I want to focus my review on the areas in which the team from Dr. Junk exceeded our expectations, in ways that I believe differentiate them from franchise operations. RESPONSIVENESS: Bob answered my first call. He was on vacation and after talking, he connected me with his right hand man, Adrian, who called and set up a time to come to our house on Saturday for the first load. Adrian answered every question I had, and was there with his team at the promised time. He even texted to let us know that they were on the way. SPEED: Adrian, Alexie and Alex dug right in. We did a quick walkthrough of what our family had managed to organize for removal the day before and then they started loading with the loose rubbish (wood and workshop stuff from garage, broken outdoor furniture, etc.), then the bagged rubbish (contents of drawers and closets that were not suitable for donation) and then the boxed items for Goodwill. KNOWLEDGE: While loading the first truckload, Adrian identified for us which of the remaining pieces would be not accepted by Goodwill, and of those, which would be difficult to find a home for. This helped us decide to have Dr Junk's team dismantle functional yet not special heavy large units (an etagère and a media cabinet) so that they could be taken to the dump. The removal of these problematic pieces saved us time and allowed us to see the light at the end of the tunnel. PROFESSIONALISM: Everyone on the team was a professional. Bob quoted a price per load in our first phone call and never deviated. Within ten minutes of meeting the crew we completely trusted them. FOLLOW-THROUGH: On Saturday, after removing two loads, Adrian estimated that we had one more load left. Although we had planned to have the team back on Monday if needed, Adrian offered bring the team on Sunday since we had momentum. Again, Adrian's attention to our schedule was impressive. They arrived on time on Sunday, and Bob, who had returned hours earlier from his cruise, joined the team. They made quick work of the final load. ABOVE AND BEYOND: On Saturday, Adrian suggested that his crew could remove and haul away old shelves which needed to be gone if we were to paint. That was a great idea, and swiftly executed by the DJ team. On Sunday, our Dad identified that perhaps the Dr. J team could dispose of an old pool filter system that included a very large fiberglass drum full of sand. Seriously big and heavy. No problem. Alexie made an opening to remove the sand and took it all away. We would never have done this on our own. I am spending a lot of time describing why Dr. Junk gets my five stars. We could never have done it without them. I forgot to take a lot of before photos, but you can imagine the house of a family with four kids after 56 years... we had a LOT of stuff. Bob, Adrian, Alexie and Alex were a pleasure to work with and made the process FUN. I never expected to be saying that! If you are planning a major clean out, you will do yourself a huge favor by adding them to your team. Absolutely money well spent! I also recommend getting your supplies and a simple system in place so that everyone on the team sees what to do. Get contractor bags (huge, extra thick garbage bags) for the true rubbish that will go to the dump. Get new boxes for donations -- they hold up better, and stack well. We got 20x20 and 18x18. We used a few of the smaller size to take the small amount of saved items as checked luggage to our current homes. Other supplies to have on hand: post-its to color code stuff (trash, donation, save); large sharpie markers to mark boxes, good quality shipping tape rolls (the cheap stuff will drive you crazy), clear zip cases for documents and photos that you are saving, large padded envelopes for smaller framed items that you are saving.
