If I could give this place zero stars I would and that's just based on the front desk girl. This girl at the front desk named CINDY has no business working at a place like this. I called all day today trying to check on my grandmother and she had the worst attitude possible. Every phone call I made it was an attitude, she did not want to give me any chance to explain what I needed over the phone. All that she kept saying was unit number, unit number, unit number or I can not help you. Not letting me get any words out to even say what I needed or why I was calling. I finally decide to go down to the place and maybe I could get a different response... well I was so wrong! She would not let me get two words out without rolling her eyes and putting her greasy hair behind her ears. Oh and let's be clear.. I heard you tell that Latin lady that the bitch in the lobby was being rude! Thank goodness I know how to carry myself in situations like this one. Called security on me and told them I was being rude which was 100 percent untrue. Then told security not to let me in to see my grandmother, like excuse me? Who are you? Ever heard of customer service? Ever heard of asking questions before you bark at someone? Finally security tells her that she has to let me in.. big surprise right?! I find it really funny that security laughed at her when they came to talk to me because they remembered me from yesterday and know everything she said was untrue. Get a grip and learn to take your attitude out on someone else. I will be filing a formal complaint for the disrespect that this lady showed me today. read more

I echo many people here. These people don't care nor are they properly trained. If you have a choice. DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE I was admitted last year (09/12/14). At time of admission, I could not speak due to high stress. The first interface to any sort of "CARE*" I received was a uniformed security team member telling me to "turn off your phone and give it to me". The "phone" was actually an augmented communication device which I was using to interface with the staff. Using this device I tell them that using it is how I communicate, the give it to me mantra continues until a supervisor gets involved and tells them to let me keep it since using it is how I communicate. Some how I got transferred to another unit and "give me your device" continues Since I refused they threw me face first to the ground (assault) then had an overweight man sit on my legs while they restrain me. Then they put me in a room tie me to a bed so tight that I can't feel my arms or legs You think that's bad try ignoring a total of 15 requests for water (how I managed to force that bit of intelligible speech in that kind of stress is a miracle I will never know) only on 16th req. did I get my water. Bear in mind this is all while I'm tied to a bed. I was restrained for a total of 1 hour 30 minutes What sparked this was me being nonverbal. Someone tell me that is a "threatening behavior" that warrants assault, restraint, human rights violations, etc. how does a person come to that? They don't. I called police about assault (with visible scars). The cops wouldn't let me press charges "if that had happened out there I'd be able to do something" the officer said. I take it that if you can't talk that gives them a ready license to assault you. That assault, restraint, human rights abuses and drugging are the protocol if you're nonverbal at this place? What is this? Fraud if you ask me or my girlfriend who is also nonverbal. Human rights violation central. That's this place in 5 words or less *Note: CARE: stands for: Connect. Appreciate. Respect. Everyone. CARE is a customer service model we use at my job. At its core is CARE itself along with 6 core service behaviors, 2 possible paths for resolving problems, and 8 weeks of comprehensive training on such things as how to handle customers with special needs. The initial interface between those seeking help here, and the staff is horrifying to say the least, degrading, and dehumanizing. While I entered voluntarily, the first part of seeking treatment was an instructions from a uniformed security type to put my belongings that could be dangerous into a locker, and then I was instructed to put in, my shoes, my belt, my neck tie, and my lapel pins. I was lead away to where I was told "for our safety" by the pseudocop a pat down would be performed. It was (stocking) feet on the yellow line, hands on the wall scenario, where my cell-phone and wallet were confiscated from me. This was followed by hours of isolation in a bare room with no stimulus, or human interaction save the scant minutes spent asking assessment questions. Once on the Unit, a nurse pushed many documents for me to sign, not allowing me time to read them. I politely refused to sign until I read them. Of the 5 documents offered, 1 was incomplete (saying it was page 1 of 2), 3 would have been fallacious for me to sign, stating I had received documentation or information that I had not, and one was complete and truthful, which I signed after reading in my room. Ironically, the one document I signed was informing me of patient rights, many of which were violated, and necessitated me starting the grievance process, namely the neglect of being left unattended in that bare room. My first addressing of my illness (in fact the first time I was asked if I had a previous mental health diagnosis) after arriving at DHBC to be treated, was 22 hours after walking into the lobby, and that pat-down for a uniformed security guard's "safety". The so called "care" here is set up as adversarial instead of cooperative. The services are provided with a profit-motive, instead of being motivated by compassion. read more

I was experiencing a major manic depressive episode and was taken into custody by sheriff department and I was agitated and yelled at the staff and a doctor. When I calmed down I realized that the staff was competent and kind to me given the state of my manic episode that I was in. They are a good hospital in Modsto. read more

Shady doctors and staff. Don't walk in here if you have a choice. Also, my cell phone was STOLEN by the "security" and nobody cared. Doctors Medical Center didn't do anything for me either. If you have had anything stolen from this facility, go to modesto police. I'm not the only person who has had something stolen from this place. These records are accumulating and hopefully the police will do something about it, very soon. Write your reviews here too. Help make a change. Emergency meds are used as a punishment, unethical and illegal practices here. Also for those that had the audacity to think that my review is funny or a joke; my best friend is dead as a direct result of the neglect of the staff here. He's dead because they don't give a enough to do their jobs ethically and legally, he's dead because they're uneducated and don't care about their patients livelihoods. So grow up, and don't be disrespectful. This place NEEDS to be shut down immediately. IF I had the time and energy to devote to it I would 100% launch and complete a lawsuit against the employees here. This place is so understaffed and underpaid. I am not surprised as to why the patients are not receiving adequate care. The staff is confused and the only people seemingly competent are the security guards. I'm grateful that they have hired better security but come on. The county needs to get it together and hire more educated and willing staff read more

If I could give negative stars I would! This by far was the worst hospital that my mother has ever been to. My mom is no-polar . Has depression and anxiety . They let her out after just 3 days. The doctor said she was fine even after I told him she is a danger to her self and those around her. Then, the same night they released her she got arrested. I don't see how this place helps there patients when they send them in there marry way as soon as they see them being productive for 5 minutes . That is how someone that Is bi-polar acts. This place has no knowledge about there patients , highly untrained and are very rude. They would not even give me any information about my mom. Even after she signed a release form giving me authorization to access her records. I'm Surprised this place has not been shy down yet. read more

A 74 yr old woman was admitted and never given her critical meds she was on for yrs. after 2 days she was in terrible medical condition. Her family told the staff they would not leave the place until she received her meds and they would have to forcefully drag us out. Five minutes after all visitors left they arrived with her meds. How the hell do they expect to help mental patients when they make them near death sick and in terrible pain. This place is outrageously incompetent and neglectful. We are looking at filing elder abuse charges, their own records will prove they failed to continue her prescribed life saving meds. Do every thing in your power to keep loved ones out of this place. read more

This place is a serious joke. I have a daughter that was diagnosed at 17yrs. old with schizophrania and is now 23yrs.old She has been in and out of this so called mental hospital many times. Every time I plead to talk to the nurses or Dr. in charge to let them know what medications she's on so that they don't change them and keep her on the same regiment and they never do. So on top of her being very unstable at time of admission she is in worse shape by the time she is discharged and they still release her like that only to be reedmited only after day or two from being discharged. I've sat during the hearing and told the judge my concerns and all they say is that if she does not seem that she is harming herself or anyone else then she can be released!!! Yes when she's in front of the judge she will say anything to get out but as soon as she's out she is very unpredictable and has huge anger and rage episodes. I sit there and tell them my story and they provide no information on possible services available to her. She was just admitted yesterday again and is now going to be homeless. We can no longer provide her with shelter because of the uncontrollable and unpredictable episodes she's having. I've called Behavior to let them know the situation in regards to her not having housing and for them to give a referral out to Guarding Gate for temporary housing or placement in SRC for rehabilitation. This is a heartbreaking subject for me but I feel the need after all these years that it's important for all of us going through this with a family member, friend or in my case my daughter to be advocates. Our mental health system is the worst. Criminals get better treatment. How is that possible?!! Stay tuned... read more

SHAME ON THEM!!!!! If you need mental health support or if your family member needs it - do not bring them here. Please go to another location especially if you have a debilitated family member like myself. My brother has been diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic with OCD tendencies. He has been diagnosed since he was 19 and is now 43. This location took him in to stabilize him because he was very symptomatic. He has a case manager that this location was fully aware of. The case manager ensures of his placement at facilities and finding long term care. My brother was held for almost 3 weeks. The doctor here didn't call his case manager when they wanted to release him - they called my Mom to let her know they were releasing my brother out into the streets if he couldn't come to her home (who is elderly and can't assist him in all of his needs). We got the case manager involved right away. They were instructed to transport my brother to SF, so we could place him in a long term locked facility, because he has a tendency to wander. The doctor yelled uncontrollably to the case manager (makes you wonder who is treating who here - that he is unable to control his own rage issues.). My brother went missing for 6 hours after that conversation. We didn't know where he was. He had no money, no ID, none of his medications, no way to get a hold of us. My brother showed up at the 6th hour at my Mom's. He was driven by taxi from this location and dropped off in the Middle of the Mission district in an alley way. Again, without money, ID or any information - no way to even call us for help. He was to be dropped off at an Urgent Care facility where his case manager could directly transport him to the new location. Shame on them for being so careless and putting my brother in a potential threatening situation. I have had many experiences with my brother being beaten due to his paranoia and tendency to be speak out fears. Too boot...they told the case manager my brother was not acute and was "healed" in a sense. Complete lies. I (and my family) have had too many experiences with hospitals who are ill trained in mental health care and shocked by so called "trained" professionals as this location advertises to be. Finding they are incompetent and have an udder disregard of human care/compassion for those afflicted. I am so happy my brother is SAFE, unharmed and in a good facility now. It warmed my heart when my brother called me from the new location and said thank you so much for everything you've done for me, everything you've given me. He sounded happy. It was a very clear moment , which I don't receive very often from my brother due to his symptoms. Good luck to you and anyone you care for with a mental illness. We must all be advocates for ourselves and our loved ones who are afflicted. read more

This place is awful! My son had a TBI I left messages repeatedly to have his doctor call me back, never returned a call. He was in 72 hours, released him with a bus pass with no place to go. Temperature was over 100 degrees that day, sent him out with enough prescriptions to kill him, his short term memory is gone. Never remembers if or when he's taken his pills. Some say with food other without food some are 1 time a day some 2 times one was 2x times but 3 before bedtime. I even called and left a message for the doctor to call after he was released I was told they don't return calls once patient has been released, she never returned calls before he was released. He lost his glasses which they kept telling him would be replaced. Had him sign all kinds of paperwork upon his release knowing he could not see to read them also knowing he won't understand them if he could see it. This place is a money making business that needs to be investigated ... O stars here... what a joke, these people Need Help... they get more drugs that's it! read more

I am still haunted by my experiences at this institution. I don't know why they sent me all the way to modesto when I was in the bay area. There is a reason why all the reviews of thus place are some star. I truly feared for my life in that place when they were giving me pills the size of my thumb, and shots on top of that. I thought I might overdose and die in a drug induced sleep. The drugs made me so sick to the point my hands turned to stone and I couldn't move my fingers to hold my toothbrush to brush my teeth. This is an EVIL place, make no mistake. EVIL. Also this place is where they send criminals to before they go to prison, like a sort or waiting room. read more

I finally found this place. I was brought here as a kid in 1991, and back then it was known as M.P.C. Modesto Psychiatric Center. Naturally that time for me is quite blurry, but I will ALWAYS remember being dragged down a hallway by a staff member, put into a padded room with a bed where I was strapped down on top of my bloody wounds from rug burn. No place for a 9 year old. I would give this place no stars if I could. Parents, don't bring your kids here, because there are more negative reviews than positive. read more

I think what many here fail to understand is that for almost everyone, admission to DBHC is done under a legal hold. No staff member would take any patient property, if it was lost, it was probably lost by the police during their struggle to apprehend the patient who was endangering themselves or others at the time they were taken into custody. Furthermore, nobody here was placed in restraints without them trying to hurt themselves, other patients, or staff members. The whole "they tied me down for no reason" rhetoric is garbage. You were restrained for safety purposes. I agree that SOME of the staff might not be as friendly as they could be, but dealing with drug addicts and people trying to hurt them all day has a tendency to make people standoffish. Patients come here because they need psychiatric help, not because they want a five star vacation. During my stay, the staff were friendly and helpful. I was never abused or neglected. I got the help I needed and I am alive and well today as a direct result. If you are thinking about hurting yourself or you are dealing with a psychiatric emergency, these people have the tools to get you through the tough time. Don't hesitate to turn to them for the help you need. read more

If safety is an issues I guess this is as good as it gets. If you expect anything else, I would think twice. I don't remember being asked why I was there by the doctor or counselor, after three days you should be good to go, lol. The staff lacks compassion, you are more of a burden then anything else, after all they have to chart your progress 24/7. I have never been so ignored in my life. You walk up to the nurses station, they see you then pretend like your not there. They have a board listing all these groups that take place throughout the day, but don't be fooled because 90 percent of the groups are canceled. These types of clinics have similar bad reputations or stigmas like mental illness itself...not good. But I just stayed a full 8 days (voluntarily) and I couldn't be happier with my decision to get help. I was almost scared off by some of these reviews but now I can see that the people who gripe the most about it are probably pretty ill themselves. I'm not going to lie, it wasn't a fun place (not to say there was never some laughter), but most of the staff treated everyone equally and there with a lot of compassion. I'm glad I went or I might not be alive. I definitely wouldn't feel as safe and secure with myself if I hadn't gone. If you think you could use the help, don't wait, go check it out at least. I wish I would've gone sooner, I would've had less of a mess to clean in my life but even still, I am positive the quality of care I received was enough to get me through a horrible time and cope with reality in the future. Of course some nurses were pretty awnry and some fellow patients were extremely obnoxious but MOST of the staff and peers were awesome. Maybe I just got lucky with getting the right meds, doctor, and nurses but trust me, if you are going through REAL pain and suffering at the hands of mental illness, go here. Don't even worry about what's going to happen. If you're as depressed or in shock like I was, you will benefit from going here and participating in life. read more
