Wonderful service and price. Cage free boarding at its best! Michael really loves the dogs and they love him. Our pups were happy and looked so great when we picked them up! (Got free baths for staying a whole week!) We are so happy to have found this place! read more

My Lexi is a shih tzu/poodle mix and very bashful but she likes hanging out with Michael's Shih tzu on the couch. I'm thrilled to have this wonderful facility available because I hate leaving her alone at home. Being at the Dog Bed & Breakfast I know she's safe and not lonely. Many thanks to Michael. read more

We have boarded our two labradoodles with Michael several times and have always been very happy. Our dogs are always happy to come here. They love playing all day with the other dogs. Michael has very strict vaccination policies and always double checks that dogs are up to date and current. I have never had a boarder be as conscientious on this and it certainly gives peace of mind when your dog is playing and interacting with others. I would recommend using Dog B&B if you need boarding or pet sitting. read more

I kind of went about this dog boarding thing in a bumbling way, having never boarded my dog before. The owner was always accommodating even when I didn't call before I picked my dog up, and when I used the significant yelp discount (which he says he doesn't see that often). While it was hard to get ahold of anybody on the phone to get information prior to boarding (basically impossible), just going over in person made it easy to sort things out. The dogs clearly have a great time and there are no cages. The owner is clearly a dog person. My pup had such a good time -- I thought he'd be a wreck, missing me and moping around. Not so! He was happily worn out when I picked him up. I think he missed the dog bed & breakfast when I took him home! Great experience. read more

We were in Englewood, FL for a short family visit and couldn't take our beagle, Maggie, to my aunt's house (she has cats and is not a dog person). We couldn't leave Maggie alone all day in our camper so we needed to find a place to board her. We called two of the vet's in town but learned that they kept the dogs crated most of the day and nobody was present in the building overnight. That wasn't what we were looking for. One of the vets suggested we call Mike Wilson at Dog Bed & Breakfast in Port Charlotte, FL. We did and learned that Mike was with the dogs all day and except for meals and sleeping they were free to roam the building. We drove out to meet Mike and found him to be genuine and truly caring about dogs. It's hard for us to trust a total stranger with Maggie's care especially for 3-days but Mike put our minds at ease. He's on premise from early morning till late in the evening but someone else comes in later to give potty breaks. No-one is present for a few overnight hours, which would be preferable, but at least the dogs aren't caged all day. His shop is protected by intrusion and heat alarms. Mike also does doggie day care and he offers other services like bathing and nail trimming. Dog Bed and Breakfast is enthusiastically recommended. We come to the area not infrequently and will absolutely board Maggie with Mike again. read more

Graduate of the Veterinary Technical Institute's Small Animal Technician diploma program. My biggest detriment to advancing in the veterinary field was my unwillingness to leave the animals "in the back", unattended, unloved, and bored to "go up front" to help with routine animal checkups. I was happier in the kennel area making sure everyone had water, a chance for some fresh air, and to make sure their cages were clean. If I ever came back as a dog, I would pray for an owner/friend like me. I had a dog years ago that has since past away named Wilson (adopted with that name so he became Wilson Wilson). I adopted Wilson during a time when two family members were diagnosed with cancer. I felt I needed a pick me up, and that's what he did for me. He helped me through a very rough time. So then when he was around 6 or 7 he suffered a spinal illness/damage? and lost mobility of his rear legs. Three days into his hospital stay he had a slight reaction to a foot pad pressure test that indicated some feeling was there. Wilson Wilson remained a very happy dog and very slowly kept showing signs of improvement. So I kept being supportive of him just like he was supportive of me when I needed it...

Dog Bed & Breakfast was originally founded as a home-based dog boarding operation. Then after nearly five months of searching for a viable, commercially zoned location, we happened upon this great, slightly out of the way location almost behind the Home Depot on the edge of Port Charlotte and Englewood.

Meet the Business Owner: Michael W.

Dog Bed & Breakfast was founded by a dog owner who's probably pickier than you. Michael is a longtime dog lover and current owner of a golden retriever named Sonny and a Shih Tzu named Yoda. He has almost 15 years of experience in the pet care field. The way he sees it, dogs are there for us without a second thought, shouldn't we do the same for them? That's why after years working at different places and seeing the good and bad behind the scenes, he decided to open up his own facility where he would gladly take his own dog.

I had an appt at 10:30 and even confirmed via text the day prior. She called at 9:20 to say she had a cancellation and would be at my house earlier than my scheduled appt. She showed up at 9:30 before I could even respond. I was at an appt where I could not answer my phone so we were playing phone tag in between me seeing the dentist and me checking out of my appt. I told her I was on my way home. I got home by 10:10 and waited for a while. I checked my security cameras and she had left almost immediately after I texted her telling her I would be home soon. She just left! No notification, nothing. I called her to ask where she was and she texted me back around 10:40 saying that she couldn't wait because she had other clients to do. But I had an appt at 10:30! I moved my day around this appt and then she lied to me. I was home on time and she totally blew me off for other jobs. That is so unprofessional and disrespectful. They lost a client that day. I had soooo many times they had to change my appt or had to cancel due to being short staffed, etc. I was always flexible and kind. I don't know why I was treated like this but feel I had to say something. Sorry guys but you dropped the ball.

Mr. Pupper frequently stayed at Dog Bed & Breakfast for 3 1/2 years when I traveled. I recently moved from that area, and it has been very difficult finding another pet care facility that took the care that Michael did for Mr. Pupper. I was very particular on where I left Mr. Pupper, and visited several facilities in that area before trusting my best friend to Michael's care. The first thing I noticed that was different with Dog Bed & Breakfast was the smell...or lack of it. I immediately decided against others because of the strong urine smell. This, to me, was not an environment that I wanted my dog to be around. Michael ensures his facilities are clean, plus the fact that the dogs have free play time under supervision. Mr. Pupper and I both miss Michael, and would have no reservations recommending Michael and Dog Bed & Breakfast to others looking for pet care. read more

We are so thankful to have found Dog Bed & Breakfast and Mike. Our older dog needed more care than home pet sitters could provide. We tried a few boarding facilities, but the larger facilities just had too many dogs and structured 'play' time areas that made Piper nervous. He just wants to lay around and take naps, which is exactly what he can do in the cage-free home environment at Dog Bed & Breakfast. Mike has been super easy to work with for drop off/pick up, convenient location for us and we can tell that Piper really likes him :) A great value and peace of mind when we need to go out of town! read more

If you are looking for a place for your dog to stay,, while you are away... PLEASE consider this fantastic place. We were not familiar with leaving our puppy anywhere, so we were skeptical,, but after the first time, we were sold. Michael loves the dogs and is so careful to make sure that everyone there has their required shots and tests, just like our kids going to school have to have. That was SO important to us. Now, when we get in the car, our Sparkey just seems to know that's where we're heading,, and is SO excited... We LOVE dog bed and breakfast,, and you will too,,,, :-) read more

We had recently moved to the Englewood/Port Charlotte area and were looking for a doggy daycare. Dog Bed and Breakfast is the second facility we tried and it is awesome! Our 2 Chocolate Labs love spending the day with Michael and any of the other dogs that may be there. Even our 9 year old who has become hesitant with going on car rides jumps in to the car when we are going to see "Michael and Sonny"! Michael's knowledge and love of dogs is very apparent and I'm thankful to have found this daycare for our girls. The rates and package deals are also very reasonable. read more

Have left my dog, Harley there several times and so good so far. Harley isn't use to being boarded as I always had family Around to keep him, but no family in this area and we just moved here and don't know the area. I will be having surgery next week so he will be spender my a night with Michael and A couple of days. I feel Michael will take good care of him and I won't have that to worry about. We have been loyal customers of the Dog B & B for over a year......we have a Chocolate lab and Basset hound who love to go there....our Basset hound was very shy at first but Michael worked his magic, he truly is an animal whisperer.... I wouldn't thinnk of sending my dog anywhere else. Michael and his staff are the very best that anyone could expect. I have never had Champ unhappy or distraut or anything other than being a little tired from playing all day, when I pick him up from his day care day. It is a wonderful feeling knowing I can leave town and that my little dog was well taken care of. Dog Bed & Breakast only takes non-aggressive dogs. My little 5 lb dog was with 90 pound dogs. Our Shih-Tzu suffers from separation anxiety, but Mike was wonderful with her! He understands dogs and knows how to work with them and I am totally comfortable with leaving her with him. They get individual attention, not like the large crowded dog boarding facilities. read more

Just boarded my Great Dane for a week while up north. I did so because Mike has taken care of Thor weekly at his day care program fit the last two years. All the dogs are monitored for shot and care updates. My dog loves the facility, and all rates are more than fair. read more
