Joining this place was absolutely the best decision I made so far this year. After a bad initial experience at another CrossFit gym, I was ready to give CrossFit another go when I realized Dog House had been opened on the NW side. I walked in on their free Saturday 9am Intro class alone, optimistic, and really really nervous. I joined the group of fellow newbies and began to follow the direction of Coach Courtney. It only took fifteen minutes and I was pretty much sold. Courtney clearly knows her stuff, expects the most out of people and is willing to give guidance where it's needed...and above that incredibly friendly. Which, if the awesome coaching isn't enough, the community(and hot shirtless dudes) is definitely another reason I gave this place 5 stars. After the intro class, I did the month long Meat and Potatoes course(foundation for CrossFit workouts) and was very impressed by another great coach (Dominik) and how friendly the existing members were to welcoming new people. The owners, Courtney being one of them, were all as equally welcoming and never made me feel pressured to commit to a membership. And did I mention the hot shirtless dudes? Its been a month since officially joining the regular CrossFit classes and I'm enjoying it more and more. Which I swear happens after you get over the "You want me to do WHAT 50 times?!!" initial reaction and realize that it's not nearly as bad as it sounds. Usually. And the Meat and Potatoes definitely helped kill any fears of being unprepared for the workouts. When I do feel like I could use a little extra help, there are always a handful of people willing to assist. I was a little(a lot) apprehensive about the idea of a "community" but I must admit that I've really been pleasantly surprised. There is no weird cult or obnoxious cliques. These are all just a bunch of real people who just enjoy a good workout. The workouts/WODs themselves are definitely grueling at times, but can always be scaled back to accommodate individual needs and each day includes both strength and conditioning training. As time goes by, I find myself looking forward to the various workouts. It never really becomes mundane or repetitive. They also have yoga and Olympic lifting classes weekly and a good amount of open gym time to makeup any workouts. Between the knowledgeable coaches and friendliness, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this place. So if like me, you've considered joining for a few months now, stop being lame and JUST DO IT. You'll be happy you did. Seriously.

I have been a member of Dog House since October 2017 as part of the weightlifting team and hop in the CrossFit classes from time to time. The facility is spacious, the coaches are awesome, the programming for both weightlifting and CF challenge you, and most importantly the community DHCF has built is like a second family to me. I travel far to make it to DH regularly so it is worth the investment. Whatever your goals are DHCF can help you get there... the first step is to show up! Eddy will probably be there ready to greet you! :)

When I come here, the staff and EVERYONE I meet along the way have become my friends and family. I understand there is so much else that the facility has to offer other than conversation and such, but when you're so comfy at a place like this you don't want to leave, and all of it is done right, and done well. My advice to ALL staff is... don't change a thing! You're all great!

My children and I were appalled by how staff treated an elderly resident with an obvious physical disability affecting his arm and mobility. He was denied permission for a non-resident to help carry his belongings upstairs, which raised serious concerns about both safety and basic compassion. The non resident man informed the ill mannered woman that the man he was assisting had cancer. Who denies a cancer patient assistance ? It was upsetting for my children to witness this lack of empathy, and they immediately asked not to be left there. Situations like this are not only unsafe for vulnerable residents but also send the wrong message to families. The YMCA should take responsibility and ensure its housing management demonstrates greater care and respect for individuals with severe disabilities--denying reasonable assistance could lead to preventable harm. If elderly disabled residents are not safe who is? Not our impressionable young children, and we certainly do not wish to leave our children in places to learn such behaviors.
