I repeatedly felt that recommendations were presented without sufficient explanation of why a particular test or treatment was the best next step or how the results would change management. Veterinary medicine has become very expensive, and I understand that diagnostics are important. However, clients also deserve a discussion about priorities, expected benefit, and reasonable alternatives based on both the clinical picture and their budget. That conversation was largely missing for us. For example, after my dog's initial workup, I would have appreciated a discussion of why the next recommended step was abdominal imaging versus endocrine testing, and how each option would affect treatment decisions. Instead, I often felt I was trying to piece together the clinical reasoning myself. I don't expect inexpensive veterinary care, and I'm willing to invest in appropriate diagnostics. What I hope for is a collaborative approach where the veterinarian explains the assessment, discusses options, and helps owners make informed decisions rather than simply presenting expensive recommendations. I think this is a capable practice, but communication and shared decision-making are areas where the client experience could be significantly improved.

We started using Cloudcroft Animal Hospital and have been pretty happy with the service. They have taken care of our main dog, last year we fostered a new dog and they helped him with a problem. Recently we acquired a poodle, and now have to get him 'admitted as a new patient'. And now the foster dog is coming back, so I expect we'll be taking him in within a couple of weeks. They were very prompt helping us get our first dog's heart worm pills through a mail-order business in order to get our preferred brand, and have been good overall. No complaints. Fortunately we haven't required any emergency services.
