The flavors were amazing. I even purchased one of their fresh rhubarb whole pie which was simply out of bounds. The meat section is always friendly and willing to meet your special needs as my bone out trim the fat Prime Rib. The total atmosphere is hassle free with close parking. Apparently, most people don't know that USDA Choice is the same as what is available at just about any supermarket. If you are looking for grass-fed beef or even organic beef, maybe you can find it but I didn't see any. The labeling also needs help. I wanted some salmon, but all their sign said was "salmon." No Coho, Atlantic, or Steelhead, just "salmon." No farm-raised or wild-caught, just "salmon". when I asked that pretty basic question the counterman said that he didn't know, and had to go to the back & ask someone whose response was "farm-raised from Chile". This place is good for one thing: If you are having a BBQ or a Super Bowl party and you want a quick & easy one-stop shop instead of running around a grocery store trying to find everything you need. It's relatively very small and You can find lots of beer, liquor, BBQ sauce, and even a bit of fresh produce & baked goods all within about a half dozen short aisles. Sadly, other than that, there isn't much reason to go there.

I hit the other before heading to Walmart, Hy-Vee, or Fareway. Which one I go to first just depends on which one I am closest to from where I am at the time. Where I live is pretty much an even split between the two. Lol The revolving stock can be frustrating sometimes. But I've learned to stock up when I see something I like that I know won't last long (example: the Parkview Jalapeno cheddar sausages)... I just stack them up in a corner of my freezer. I try to get in on Wednesday evenings when the new ads go up and they stock the "Aldi Finds." I'd love to be able to go in the morning, but I can't do that with my schedule. My girlfriend and I both love the jalapeno ranch chips! The gluten free nacho cheese chips aren't too bad (generic Doritos) either... The seafood is suprisingly good. Though I'm sure even the "fresh" fish and shellfish has been flash frozen and then thawed at some point. I mean...we live in Iowa and not on a coast. The shrimp, sometimes available in a shrink wrapped clamshell , in the meat area is really good quality and doesn't lose a lot of it's size when cooked. if you like birria and don't want a lot of hassle... Try their USDA Choice birria style beef. Each roast is about 2 1/4 lbs. Chuck it into a crockpot for a few hours until it's tender enough to shred. It will not disappoint! So good! I'm not sure you can beat the prices for condiments and canned goods here. Very reasonably priced and very compareable to Walmart. Love the self checkout! I rarely wait in line for a cashier anymore. I used to be one of the guys scrounging for empty boxes... Now I have my stock of reusable shopping bags. Do yourself a favor and just get you a stock of bags! The store is always clean and the staff is friendly when I have to interact with them. Usually that just to grab someone really quick if I need pointed in the direction of something I can' find. I haven't used the curbside pickup service at either store... So I can't really comment on that option. It's got to be better than Hy-Vee. Lol Don't forget your quarter if you need a cart!

Like most groceries, they are not all things to all people, but if you have not given an Aldi store a chance, you should definitely give this one some attention. New, fresh, and with all of the standard and organic options - as well as all the interesting seasonal European imports - at reasonable prices you cannot go wrong. This location is conveniently located in Windsor Heights with easy access to I-235.

It's showcased and setup unlike any I've ever seen. The produce is all packed and wrapped in plastic wrap. Harder for people to steal or is it for safety from filthy hands? The produce selection is super tiny and the bananas are on a sort of coatrack. The canned, jarred, and boxed selection is pretty fantastic as there are ethnic foods you don't see elsewhere or pay 2-3 times as much at places like Hy-Vee. It's a super economic store, especially for a privately owned store. Definitely a relic, and I hope it stays standing. Makes me homesick for my hometown, a real city. Oh, little Des Moines, glad you have one of these.
