Last Christmas we bought a new BBQ. Huge 4 burner with an extra burner for the wok attachment, rotisserie attachment and warming plate and full hood with temp on it. Great BBQ! And could do soooooo much more than our old one that pretty much just cooked your meat (and really slowly......). So since we had the functions we wanted to use them. We cooked everything in that BBQ over that summer. And this was where we came for our full sized fish to dress and cook in foil. It was a great sized fish, not too pricey compared to say buying a roast of a nice cut, considering it was a whole fish and fed everyone. It turned out so nice and was beautiful once we followed the serviceman's advice on how to dress and wrap it and times to cook for. He was very helpful (considering we had never cooked a full fish before). We have been back since and got a georgeous salman there that turned out perfect too. They are really busy at Xmas time and I would advise you order if you have specific needs but if you just want to drop by and grab some seafood they usually have a good range in stock to assist.

From whole fish, that if you wanted gutted or filleted they'll do it for you and also will hand you the scrappy offcuts so you can make stock or whatever. No mess in your own kitchen, you beauty!! They also have a huge range of crustaceans and shellfish and all the iddy biddy bits like oysters, mussels and scallops. Not to mention all the different sized octopus and squids. One part I wish I could throw myself over and allow my skin to take over the aroma is the smoked fish!!! I freaking love smoked fish!!! I grew up on it as my Popsie always got some for Easter and Christmas. My parents also smoked our catches (usually Tommies) when we were kids. It was from then that stemmed my smoked fish addiction. All of their fish (apart from the smoked sliced salmon, I think!) is smoked on premises. You know this place is fresh when you see the workers out the back doing the sorting/filleting etc. However, there are a few fish that obviously gets imported but they label that to let consumers know. I'm off now to make a delicious seafood chowder and oysters Kilpatrick using what I bought today for my hubby's valentine's day meal. Yep I'm a good wifey!

It's such a shame that most reviews only happen after disappointment…read more I'll try not to follow that formula. We are staying at the Stamford in Glenelg so it only made sense to try their restaurant. After driving all day, we were rather exhausted, so happy to sit down for dinner early and a superficial look down the street did not seem to bode well for a quiet dinner. Probably a little too early and with the restaurant empty, I opted for their Singapore specials. Very quickly started off with entrees of vegetarian spring rolls and Singaporean curry puffs. Both nice and the curry puffs very well spiced but not exceptional. Then, although waiting staff were quite pleasant (perhaps the lovely young lady might have stopped chewing gum during service) and reasonably efficient we now waited almost an hour before the mains were served. As I was already exhausted this was quite a struggle but eventually my Nasi Goren's arrived. It was actually lovely. Well flavored and nicely prepared. Had an LPA to wash it all down and then retired for a good sleep

Who would dream up such a thing? The Stamford Grand as it turns out. With no advertising, the event sold out within 2 weeks. Sun shining and sea breeze blowing, we signed the Guinness World Record register for the World's Longest Cream Tea, found our seats, and were offered a glass of Jacobs Creek bubbles. Everyone was jolly, despite the increasing sea gusts, as we were all in it to support Novita Children's Services. We were dutifully informed that there was a contingency of Guinness World Record officials monitoring our every move. The defining act - taking at least one sip of tea and eating at least one bite of scone each - to secure the record. A tantalising glimpse at the menu tempted us as we sipped bubbly and were offered refills of our tea by a smiling steward. Before too long, and surprisingly quick given the huge amount of people to cater for, a two tier stand arrived laden with sandwiches, hot savouries including the Stamford Grand's signature curry (chicken) puff and tandoori chicken skewers, scones, and teeny cakes. There were fruit tarts, banana cake squares, mixed berry mouse, and mango pavlova's. Awaiting a special meal (vegetarian) I was informed that I would get my very own plate. Well given the chill wind I couldn't wait and did my bit for the Guinness World Record and sampled the scones and other sweets. The scones were perfectly warm and short, accompanied with a variety of jams and whipped cream. My favourite sweet was the fruit tart with lovely pastry, custard and glazed fruit. Having been marked off the register for the Record, my individual vegetarian plate arrived. It is most impressive that dietary considerations are accommodated for such a large scale event. Plus everything on the plate was delicious! A vegie skewer of barbequed veg had nice smokey and sweet flavour, there was a tasty samosa, finger sandwiches including pesto sun dried veg, guacamole, and salad, a piece of orange syrup cake, and carrot & walnut cake. It was at about this point that a particularly gusty burl of wind air lifted my mother in law's hat and sent it soaring effortlessly across the jetty onto the beach below. Justin Higgins, General Manager of the Stamford Grand shouted "I'll get it!" and so he did, collecting some sir lifted napkins and glasses at the same time. We had the opportunity to ask if the long high tea would happen again, and all signs point to yes due to the success. As the weather was closing in, once we had supped on the delicious goodies, we took to the promenade back along the jetty. Smiling staff, as on arrival, farewelled us, welcomed us back soon, and told us that if the world record bid was successful, that we could expect our certificates in the mail.

I have never had steak from here, but I will one day. I have, however, tried the burgers. The great thing about Outback Jacks on the Marina is there is a few tables out the back with a great view of the beach. Two stars was all I could muster (muster . . . outback . . . yeah? Feeling that? No? Okay, fine, agreed, no more awful puns) and even that was a stretch. They forgot the kangaroo from the tasting platter, the saddle burner prawns 'served in a tent' sounded intriguing but there was no tent nor anything resembling a tent to speak of when it came. Well just order more than you think of everything except sides. $8.50 per piece of King George Whiting fried + 50c to have it done grilled in lemon pepper dressing isn't quite the cheap Sunday night takeaway we were expecting. However, the fish was incredibly well cooked (still tender) and seasoned with a tangy oregano and lemon pepper dressing. I also enjoyed the juiciest lemon pepper calamari rings but order double what you think you can handle as when they're not battered they are only half size. Chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and a small serving is plenty for 2. The service is incredibly quick and friendly, they even know the locals by the first name. The shop doesn't have that caked in 30 years of grease feel and is clean with a well laid out menu. This would have to be one of Adelaide's best and hidden F&C shops. Walk an extra block away from the beach and hop, skip and jump your way back to enjoy fish you'll think was freshly caught from the sea that day.

Their kids meals are great too, since they are all served with mash potato instead of the usual fries, making them a much healthier choice. There is a vast array of interesting desserts on offer too - yesterday I had the chocolate and orange cake, which included an array of nuts and seeds, and my partner had the sticky date pudding (possibly the best I've ever tasted!). They sell amazing protein balls too, which look incredible - I'm looking forward to coming back and having one next time ;) Nice wholesome food, which makes you feel like you are making a healthier choice! Mr Wino's green curry looked really impressive, with fat, fresh prawns (tails on) and a mixture of black & basmati rice.
