Favorite shop I stopped into on my Toronto trip. It has a nicely curated stock of vintage inspired brands like Emily and Fin, Collectif and others. Only two dressing rooms, which became a little bit of an issue when I took a pile of stuff into the one open dressing room, on top of the gal in the other one was trying stuff on for a good hour. Someone else popped in and wanted to try on only one or two things and I felt bad for her having to wait. The things you recall from shopping trips... anyway, bought a stack of stuff and love it all. Cuz and I were spending the day exploring Leslieville, a East Toronto hip neighborhood which seems to have a lot of buzz around it these days and were walking in and out to shops all day long to check it out. I walked in here and as soon as I saw the David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust coasters, I was sold. My cousin went straight for the Tom Selleck/Magnum P.I ones. I saw some really fantastic dresses here and even though I'm not on the market for one, you can easily find a cute little cocktail dress or a dress to wear to an office party at $70 a pop. The dresses here remind me of the dresses which a Montreal-area brand, Coco & Tashi, makes. This shop also reminds of the shops on Mont-Royal or St. Denis in Montreal, similar vibe. The salesgirls are friendly and if you like that retro vintage look with a modern twist, you're bound to find something here. read more

Retro. Sorta? I was hoping to find more options in traditional fit & flair dresses in the classic retro prints of the 50's (polka dots, geometric etc). Instead, I found racks of dresses in novelty fabrics of hamburger and fries, cupcakes, wiener dogs and vampire fangs. The quality of the majority of dresses aren't great; cheaply done seams and acrylic fabric, and the prices ($75+) don't reflect the cheaply assembled clothing. None of the dresses are lined, which would reflect actual craftsmanship. I'm guessing the only real reason this store is successful is because the options of 50's inspired dress stops in Toronto is NIL. One thing that did catch my eye, is the availability of larger sizing (12, 14, 16, XL, XXL) which is great, as finding plus size clothing can be tricky. read more

What boutique in Toronto accommodates for the busty gal? Surprisingly, Damzels In This Dress! When I found out about their retail in the Leslieville neighbourhood, I figured I'd go try it out just to look at their edgy, urban designs - pretty meets gritty. Kelly, co-owner/designer of the shop, asked if I needed any assistance and I gave my polite "Just looking" but she would comment on certain dresses I'd be glancing at I confessed my reservation of actually being serious about trying on a dress due to the "girls". But then Kelly started suggesting dresses which made me more comfortable to at least TRY something on. From there she would also grab various dresses off the rack and handed them to me in the change room. I tried them on and low and behold, not only did they fit, they were flattering, good quality (not the rayon/nylon/spandex blend you get at mall stores) and darn it, they made me look and feel pretty. I should also note that the store was not empty, she was this polite and friendly and helpful to everyone who walked in the store. And there was no feeling of her trying so hard to make a sell, she was a friendly person. It is my to-go dress shop! read more

I've been shopping at Damzels for years and I can't speak highly enough of them! As a wearer of skirts and dresses most of the time, I would estimate that 50% of my wardrobe comes from Damzels. As a gal with an hourglass figure, I find shopping at many stores infuriating due to weird sizing, unflattering styles or clothes that just don't suit my body type. Damzels carries dresses that are made for women with women-shaped bodies. I am constantly getting compliments on the dresses I buy from their store. Kelly and Rory are an absolute delight, and always offer a helping hand when choosing between options or suggesting things you may not have seen or considered. The rest of the staff is super too. They offer a wide range of accessories and shoes as well. Watch out for their backyard sales, or any messages saying they've just received new styles! So much love for Damzels!! read more

This shop is so bloody cool, I thought I'd be kicked out for my apparent nerd factor. I think it's the glasses. Or, my gawking at all the rad merch. So, being on the hunt for a super cool, as in, not from Artizia, cool, tshirt, I roll into Damzels. It makes me wish I were one of those hot retro chicks, so I could buy my entire wardrobe from here. However, I'm not. (See reference, above.). But. I did buy a cool graphic tshirt, of which, the staff were happy to import from their Ronscesvales location, making me feel all VIP. Fantastic. Aside from great Tshirts, the shop carries really sexy pinup, classy, cool dresses and accessories to announce yourself as the hot girl in the room, with all the style that the others are lacking. Oh good gosh, give me it ALL! This is an amazing little haunt - I could have easily bought 5-6 dresses within 30 seconds of walking in the spot and for this, rather particular gal? That's saying something. I kept myself controlled and took home a mere two dresses and two pairs of tights, which amounted to $175. $60 a dress!?! You beautiful creatures, you. I went to the other location but I assume they sell similar items. I went specifically looking reproduction vintage and retro styles. They have a very small selection of this mixed in with a ton of cheaply made mass produced dresses and separates that are over priced for what they are. The sales lady was very nice and the shop is very cute. But it wasn't worth traveling to for retro inspired clothes. read more

I wish I could give Damzels 6 stars, I love it so much. Unparalleled selection of comfortable, feminine, figure-flattering dresses for the vintage inspired woman. I love the colours, the cuts, the fabrics, the patterns - LOVE IT ALL!!! These dresses look good on everyone, regardless of size or shape, and they make you feel sexxxxy while keepin' it classy. The staff are sweet, and really good at helping you choose the right thing, and just overall making you feel good about yourself. I suggest making a day of it with your lady-friends, and lunching in Leslieville after browsing through some antique shops and choosing your favourite Damzels dress to wear to next weekend's cocktail party. No party to go to? Just throw it on with some heels and pearls and vacuum your home in style. I could spend all of my monies here. And some days....I have. read more

I first came here in search of a dress for my grad ball- I'd already combed through 20+ dress stores online and in person without finding something that caught my eye, and I was running out of time before the actual event. Damzels was the last place I had left to try. The store was small and adorable, with a fresh and unique collection of dresses. What really made Damzel's magical though was the damzel working there who helped me look for the perfect outfit. She pulled dresses off the racks that I would never have to thought to try on on my own, but when I did try them on I was blown away. The dresses she picked out fit beautifully, and looked stunning!! After 20 minutes of happily romping around the store, I had not one, but two dresses, matching stockings, and a rocking new pair of heels. I only wish I hadn't wasted all my time looking elsewhere before coming here!. I cannot recommend this shop more, LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! read more

By now any of you who have met me in the flesh know that I mostly wear skirts and dresss... that being said I am a HUGE fan of this store. I happen to be in the area for the Leslieville STOMP and recalled bookmarking this store; I stopped by with Danielle P. and the madness began! As part of the STOMP, all their dresses in the back of the store were only $20!!! I scores a super cute halter dress regularly $80 for $20. There were tons of beautiful retro style bags and accessories to choose from at regular price, but I was not prepared to drop some coin that day. No worries though... I'll be back! read more

We first noticed Damzels In This Dress while walking after brunch. The funky window caught our attention. We were looking for moustaches for a birthday party and my boyfriend thought that this would be a good place to start. There were lots of fun things in the store. I got side tracked with the bracelets and ended up buying two because I couldn't decide. :s They had lots of cute gifts & funny cards. (There was a little girl that seemed pretty proud that she knew what the dirty words on the cards meant) I did notice that people were trying on clothes but didn't look at what they had (I was afraid to spend more money) I ran into a friend the other day in a cool dress and when I asked her where she bought it and she said Damzels In This Dress. I had the best shopping experience here. The woman working there just picked out the best dresses. I came in needing a dress for an upcoming party. I don't normally wear dresses so I had no idea where to start. She made it super easy to shop. Even after setting me up with a change room she kept getting more dresses all of which were adorable. The fashion sense of this place is unique. It's rockabilly and 40s/50s style type stuff. This is the kind of place where you can find a dress with flowers and skulls on it at the same time. If that's what you're in to it's worth a visit. The only thing I have against this place is the sizes can be a little limited. Ladies! This is my go to dress store! I came across this shop while furniture shopping with a friend and have been a regular since! Super cool sexy dresses that will always get you a compliment at a party or even just walking down the street.Seriously random people stop me all the time! From my first visit to my last (This saturday!) I have always felt so welcomed by the sales gals-they make you so comfortable that you want to stay all day and try on everything! They also know what works for my body and are so good at suggesting dresses that I would walk by on the rack. Like Saturday I purchased a dress for a big wedding next weekend that seemed like it was made for me!!! I had not bothered to try it because I had never worn anything like it and figured I could not pull it off. I looked like I walked off the set of Mad Men! The shoes have moved to their west end store on Roncesvalles,(394 just next to The Local!) just giving you a heads up they no longer have shoes at the East end store. this mad me sad but I understand!! read more

One of my absolute favourite places to buy clothes in Leslieville. The owners are personally vested in the business, remember you and your purchases and just have a wonderful eye for great pieces. I get great looks in dresses (for black tie or casual dressy events and for work) that have a decidedly 1950's old Hollywood and rockabilly appeal, with labels like Stop Staring, Luxe Deville and Bettie Page Clothing at really, really reasonable prices. Their eye for accessories is equally wonderful. I like supporting this gem of an independent clothing retailer in the heart of Leslieville. I have sent several people there and they have all had a great experience. When I buy gifts from there, like the clutches, wallets and purses, they're a huge hit. If you like modern, wearable women's clothes with a hip retro vibe, Damzels should be a must-stop in Leslieville. read more

I am a big fan of cotton dresses, and I buy them everywhere I see them. I do not mind paying extra $$$ for a really cute, high quality dress. But this store was a disappointment for me for the following reasons: 1) Very limited selection of sizes. 2) The type of dresses are suitable only for a very narrow niche of customers. If you love lots of bright flowers on your dress, the place is for you! 3) The dresses are really hard to wear in a hot humid climate because they are either made of synthetics or very heavy cotton. 4) Quality/price ratio is not exactly amazing. I've seen better in the city and online. For example, aTrollied Dolly dress will cost you $110+ while an Esprit dress made of a much better quality material will cost your around $70-80. 5) Sales persons were sort of pushy, but I guess they have to sell those dresses. Also, most of their dresses are sold online, if you know you size. Those online places may not exactly be much cheaper but at least they have many more sizes! read more

The customer service was reprehensible. The owner of the store was rude, invasive, and spoke disparagingly of a customer who left the shop. As for the merchandise, it was nothing remarkable. Most of it was ridiculously over-priced and could be found on modcloth for less. And modcloth probably wouldn't insult you after you left the store. read more

This is probably one of my favourite stores for vintage inspired clothing. I have bought SOO many dresses from here. The clothing is PHENOMENAL and I have had FANTASTIC customer experiences from this store. However, on March 22, 2016 I decided to take my grandmother to the store to show her all these unique styles - styles which she grew up wearing. My grandmother does not have the greatest hearing but she was trying to communicate with the girl working (who I am assuming is new because my frequent visits to the shop and I have never seen her before). The girl came off cold, rude, and so disrespectful. My grandmother was trying to make a light conversation flow as I was trying on a dress. This lady working did not seem to care or even come across approachable and her responses to my grandmother were just appalling. Yes, I understand that you cannot simply look at someone and tell if they cannot hear properly or not, HOWEVER, workers need to treat everyone with respect and a level of warmth that is needed. I left the store so upset and with a bad taste in my mouth after that experience. I have been so hesitant to go back now. Really disappointed that someone like this would be hired. Totally understand that we all have our off days, but our problems and issues need to be left at the door or you'll just ruin someone's new and only experience of Damzels. read more

This is one of the best stores in Toronto. I have been here countless times, buying dresses for work to formal events to accessories, like handbags and hats to awesome jewellery. The staff is very friendly, fun and know their stuff! They really understand what compliments your body, from style to fit and I have often bought things I never thought to try on. The dresses are everything from va-va-voom pinup, to everyday cool and casual but NEVER boring. They have some great skirts with awesome prints (bought one with robots on it recently). If you need birthday, Christmas, even baby shower presents, this is a GREAT place to find some awesome and cool items for the gals (and maybe a few of the guys too) in your life. Think I found my new addiction! Doll Factory by Damzels on Roncy is the cutest little shop you ever did see! Beautiful pin up style dresses and accessories. If your size isn't in stock, they can check their Leslieville location and transfer the item to Roncy. It's a $20 fee but is refundable if you choose not to purchase and will go towards the purchase price if you do. Great customer service too :). Go and check them out! read more

I just got back from dress shopping... which is always stressful and depressing... but not this time! I found a ton of dresses that were flattering on my body and fun! I should mention that I have NO bust and no hips... so finding something to make me feel sexy is always a chore. The price is great, especially considering the quality of the dresses. Not sure who helped me, I should have asked, but she was great with me and my daughter (4 years old and putting up with mommy shopping along Queen St. in Leslieville). I am not sure I will bother going anywhere else next time I am looking for a dress... especially since I already picked another dress out that I want! One of the best dress shopping experiences I have ever had. I was at the Roncesvalles location, which was stocked with a really wide selection of truly lovely dresses: they're all more or less within the Lindy hop or rockabilly theme, but in an array of shapes, fabrics, patterns, and colours to flatter just about any gal. And yay! They carry a realistically broad range of sizes ( extra small to 2 XL). Super nice and helpful staff got me zipped up, brought me sizes, and cheered me on: attentive, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic without being at all pushy. The pricing was perfectly reasonable for the quality of the clothes and ranged from $70 to $200 for the dresses I tried on: more than fair for grownup outfits. I wear a large size and usually have trouble finding anything that will fit, but in this store, I had to control myself to keep from buying an armload. Can't wait to go back! read more
