They call it dollar king, but everything is actually more than a dollar. It should be called Dollar 121 King. Everything is $1.21. Sometimes you get stuff for a steal at that price, and other times you are just a sucker. It's a great marketing ploy to just change the quantity and quality of items and keep the prices low. Overall, it is a good deal store, and there are treasures to be found! The organization and cleanliness is better than the Dollar Tree, but also you are paying 21% premium for the items. I have been pleased with some of the stuff that have been brought home, but other times my only response is a shake of the head. Glad to have the store in the neighborhood, and happy to see it's future success!

I had a very disappointing experience with an employee named Randall. He was extremely rude,…read moreunhelpful, and lacked basic customer service skills. I purchased an item that rang up at $2.99, but I thought it was supposed to be less. I walked over to verify the shelf price, and it was clearly marked as $1.99. When I brought this to Randall's attention, he acknowledged that it may have been an error on the store's end but insisted it was ringing up at $2.99. I politely asked if he could either adjust the price or help me find the item that was actually priced at $1.99. Instead, he rolled his eyes and told me to "just pay for these two items" and that he would look for the other item after helping the customers waiting in line. I told him that I would rather have the issue resolved before completing my purchase. He rolled his eyes again, walked over to compare the items, and within less than a minute the issue was resolved. The issue itself wasn't the item, it was Randall's attitude. If the pricing error was on the store's end, it should have been handled professionally and courteously. Instead, I was met with eye-rolling, dismissive behavior, and unnecessary rudeness. I chose not to call out his behavior in front of the other customers, but it was highly unprofessional. I will not be returning!

My first impression was how old and kind of dirty/messy it was. Found a lot of stuff though! You can buy school supplies, work out clothes, make-up, and what not. Best of all, my daughter found what she needed! The store lady was kind enough to order more for my daughter. She even called my daughter when the stuff came in and held it for my daughter at the counter till we came to get it. We will DEFINITELY be back!! Plenty of free parking next to the store.

The DISCOUNT PLACE (aka "98"), Whomever it was who coined…read morethe term "Hole in the wall" could've easily been referring to this tiny general merchandise store hidden deep inside an unkempt mini-strip mall in the heart of Scum Valley. Opps sorry, I meant to say Sun Valley.... The store is difficult to spot from the main street, Sunland Blvd, and is completely invisible from Nettleton, the adjoining street. The best way to visit this local gem is via the alley behind the mall which begins off of Nettleton Street. Park in any of the first 5 parking spaces and the nose of your car will be pointing directly at this bodega. As I said, this place is TINY, maybe 300 to 400 square feet of floor space max! Yet, despite their small size somehow they almost always seem to have the item I need on a shelf waiting for me. For example: A few days ago, following a shopping expedition to Target & CVS, I found that I was still "in need" of a few odd items; an extension telephone cable, a female 2 female coupler, some utility candles, and some butane fuel for a camping stove. Believe it or not they had them all and the best part is: I paid only .98 cents each! (ALMOST everything is at that price point here.) I do have one complaint, which cost them a star, they recently began charging customers .10 for carryout bags. Yes, I can hear some of you thinkin: 'So what dude, lots of stores charge for bags in LA cause its' the law. All the stores are doing it, Duh.' It is a fact that "all" stores seem to be suddenly charging this bag-tax but only a specific few are required to do so. Many, like this shop are exempt but want to charge me anyway, which irritates me. Additionally, stores, such as this one, collect the fee and then give you the type of plastic bag that has been banned from use by the same law which establishes the tax! The law states that a store with sales over 1 mil./yr must provide either paper bags or reusable plastic bags (meaning the bag must be able to be used carry something like 20 lbs. for at least 50- 100 x's). IT SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITS plastic single use bags, PERIOD. Obviously, this is a new pet peeve of mine...so if it is not an issue to you, then uh never-mind. The store is open daily from 8 to 8 and seems to be family owned/operated. Due to the imminent opening of a Dollar Tree store less than a quarter of a mile away this business' days may be numbered. So If you find yourself anywhere in the area and are thinkin of going to the .99 Cent Store to get something...GO TO THE DISCOUNT PLACE and help out a neighbor instead. You'll get a Gold Star for the day if you do! Oh, one last thing...the name is almost misleading, the prices on an item by item basis are the same as elsewhere. I have never found any real bargains there, at least not price-wise. Ciao fer now! D

This location has just about everything you need at its lowest cost. Another thing about this location is that they keep the store clean, although you can tell they have some displays, shelves, shopping carts and baskets for quiet some time now. Would be nice to see them get a bit of facelift to the store. All the employees I've encountered have been very welcoming and helpful. The manager in charge of the store seems to bit out there. She has her moments when she's not professional on the floor around customers. I don't think yelling across the store is professional that's one example, another time was her addressing problems with her employees when there's an issue in front of customers.She's not your typical manager who makes you feel welcome or helpful. She seems just like your average outspoken employee, with no filter. I will say this about her, when it comes to solving customers problems I've seen her do a great job in taking care of an issue, and also keeping the store clean, and shoppable. With a little bit of management training, I think would improve her professionalism. One more thing when there's a long line they don't take a bit to long to get back and for back up to respond. As long as you guys are still in this location I'll be come back to shop. Just those minor improvements will make shopping there an even better experience and would probably bring in more

A good store to pick up a last minutes item needed if you live near the neighborhood, otherwise make the extra drive to more reasonably priced locations nearby. They also charge 50 cents for any credit card transaction under $5.00
