We're from…read moreout of the area and came here for some carry out food items since the food scene in this area is severely lacking. Food Lion seems to dominate this area as we didn't see any other food chains. Outside in the parking lot someone was hosting what appeared to be a private birthday party - complete with bounce house, DJ, and group dance. It was very odd indeed but perhaps that's how they do things down there. Inside the grocery store was like any other. It was clean and fit our needs. The only thing I didn't find was generic bottled water that wasn't purified. I thought the carry out selection was above average although some of the salads had lettuce that was browning. I was impressed with the variety of hummus they carried. What bothered me the most is customers and employees alike that have their own agenda when it comes to time. Everyone is so slow. Slow to move out of the way (or not at all), slow getting their money out to pay, our cashier was slow ringing our items across the scanner. Like dilly dally slow to the point it was driving me crazy! It's like no one had a sense of time or urgency. I couldn't take it. When the lady in front of me took her good old time rearranging her purse, getting out her wallet, rumbling through her bills it took all the control I had not to pay for her order myself just to get her on her way. Must be the Yankee in me. On the plus side they have some sort of loyalty program and I asked the cashier to apply the store's card to our order. She agreed but a customer behind us happily offered up hers for the points. I don't know if it really saved us any money but oh well! I was just glad to get out of there. Considering we only picked up about 5 items I spent more time there than I do doing a weeks worth of shopping up home (including the drive to and from!)

The sandwiches were amazing and the service was equally as good I cannot give the deli department more stars than five but if I could I would. Thank you so much for helping me and a busy exciting wedding weekend. I apologize for not remembering anyone's names but whomever was involved with our sandwich order and the manager who actually checked us out are an asset to Food Lion

As a resident of 12 years and a customer all these years, I CHOOSE to shop here. Why not run out to Food Lion? Why? I want them to succeed. I want them to stay in business. I want to spend my money (yes, even a little more on some items) because the island needs this business. They need us, too! We are partners with them and everyone tries very hard to please. I fail to understand why people who come from far away - used to shopping at Wegman's, Kroger, Whole Foods, etc. - believe that our store should carry their favorite item. While Island Foods now carries numerous brands of organics products, organic produce, and specialty items, they carry bargain and value priced items. This allows them to serve the entire range of customers. Prices are good from low end to high end AND they compare with Food Lion - often carrying the same brands. When you come to Chincoteague Island, make Island Foods Great Valu YOUR community market, too. Help our economy and support the locals who provide you with this wonderful "away place". And fellow island residents, please continue to shop locally because it helps us all to maintain the essential services we all need to live here as a community. Jama B.

Food Lion is the only grocery store of Cape Charles and basically the main hub for everything in the town. Cape Charles doesn't have a chain drug store like a CVS or Walgreens (which nearly made this city girl pass out), so for anything you need, you can count on going here. The makeup section is quite literally just a very slender few rows of items that's heavily picked over. But, again, this is a Food Lion. You're probably here for food (but if you forgot to pack something, pray to Jesus you can find something here to suffice). We purchased some groceries for our few days in Cape Charles and were able to find everything we needed, including a few housemade pasta salads and a fried chicken. The store is very organized and clean and surprisingly big for this tiny town. This grocery store will get you through your weekend trip the way it did for us!

It's a quaint little shop where you can buy fresh seafood, groceries, as well as different pastries and other dishes at the deli counter. I was originally in the mood for an Italian sandwich, but after speaking with the employee working the counter, I got a Shrimo Po' Boy because he said "The way we make em here, you won't find anywhere else." After one bite, I realized exactly what he meant; the shrimp were so fresh that I just knew they were caught straight out of the Cheseapeake Bay that same morning. I was also a fan of the thinly sliced French fries. I got a lemon square to eat after my sandwich, and it was also so good that I grabbed a slice of rainbow cake to go. The rainbow cake was good, but a tad dry, so definitely go for the lemon square if you're looking for a dessert here. All in all, the beach market is a great stop for anybody looking for a quick bite to eat or to support a local grocer in Cape Charles.

They served tasty and hearty corn and crab chowder. Growing up, I was a sucker for old-school steak fries. These are not them. They may appear to be fat steak fries at first glance, but they're better. Just a wide as steak fries but sliced ribbon-thin and very well seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and maybe a little parmesan. And if you enjoy a thick fat Italian sub, this is it. The bread was a crusty ciabatta roll. What made the difference for me on this Italian sub was that it was nicely toasted... holy smokes! The Beach Market is, indeed, a market, too. If you have a refined tastes in wine and other food delicacies do not miss out!
