You know how that goes! You go in for 1 thing and come out with $50 worth of junk/stuff! I'm guilty as charged! I haven't been to a Dollar Store in quite awhile and I quickly found out things are NOT a dollar. Everything is now $1.25 unless otherwise marked. Whatever, it's still less expensive than a lot of other places. They had a decent amount of Holiday decorations albeit a lot of them were pretty chintzy looking. The toy section is really small but it was sufficient for what I needed. The BEST find today was Play Doh and the Play Doh hair salon accessories kit. The store was PACKED and there wasn't much room to maneuver in there. I definitely felt claustrophobic! The store was relatively clean and the person at checkout was friendly. I'd go back but not during peak hours or Holidays. Also, the frozen food selection was slim. I personally don't buy food from there EVER but I did notice the selection was lacking.

Unlike other "dollar" stores, everything here is priced at no more than $1. For some things, it's…read morea good deal, for others, it makes for LOL-inspiring small packages and crappy quality. I usually pick up a few 6-oz. tubes of toothpaste for $1 each. The ones that boldy proclaim "30% more vs. 4.6-oz size!" Well, thanks, I guess. Six ounces is also 200% larger than a two-ounce tube, so why not drop the artifice and sensationalism and go for broke? Dunces. The lines get brutal here. Counter-intuitively, you might not think that a dollar store would get crowded, but I've seen the line (not lines...it would take a miracle to see more than one register open) 9-10 people deep. Most of those people pay with coins or something, because speedy dispatch of the customers ain't happening up in here. I usually depart annoyed and irate, although I keep going back to see what sorts of strange food is being offered. Lobster pate for $1 a can? Yep, they have (or had) that, and I bought it. It was nasty, but you never can be sure that you aren't about to eat the best thing ever, so I keep trying.

I always feel like a criminal when I go into this store, because the lights are off during the day…read moreand I feel like I am creeping around in somebody's house. After dark, they turn the lights on, but the bulbs are some kind of ecotard bulbs, because I almost want to go out to the truck and fetch a flashlight. I realize that they are keeping the overhead down, and I appreciate that, but still...give me some lumens so I can see what the hell it is I'm looking for. I have seen curiously large numbers of people buying boxes of linoleum tiles here. I don't know the implications of that, but it's true. I hope that it isn't some scenario from "Fried Green Tomatoes," but come on...how often does a rational person get the urge to trot down to the local dollar store and stockpile some vinyl flooring material? Curious, I tells ya! Some weird stuff in the frozen food section. I'm going to snap a pic next time. I'm an aficionado of off-brand and cheap-ass food, but you don't see so much of that in the freezer section. I might just have to try a box of the "BBQ Pork Sphincters on a Stick" some time. [Disclaimer: I didn't actually see that fictional product in the store, but I'll probably have nightmares about it, now that I mentioned it here.]

The only noteworthy thing about this rather typical Dollar General is the setup of the entrance,…read morewhich is offset from both the front of the store and the sign by a goodly distance. If you are driving down Berryhill going west, it's a cinch to miss the turn, because it is about 100 yards east of the store. If you are driving east, you'll find it eventually. Ah, there is one more notable feature of this store, which is the large lake that forms in the dead center of the parking lot, even after a moderate rain.

The one emoyee that I saw was attentive, friendly and asked me if I needed help finding anything before I was 10 steps in the door...so thumbs up for that.

Just the standard dollar store, but larger than most. The selection seemed ordinary for edible…read moregoods and the refrigerated/frozen section won't give you any surprises. There may be a lot of stuff here that you can't find in other dollar stores, but I generally check out the food items. The prices seem slightly lower than Dollar General. Clean store and parking lot, although it's fairly new, so time will tell if it remains that way. The lighting is dim, so that is a purposeful corporate policy, because the old store behind Churchs Chicken on 90 was spookily dim. Not a bad location, if you want to head south on Stewart Street...the light at Park Avenue cuts off the flow of traffic well. If you want to head north, that's more tricky.

Twice now one particular female in management has been rude for just asking a simple question. She acts as if she's too busy to stop and deal with a paying customer. Other than that it's a pretty good and clean place to shop.
