I went right through the light at I 29 and even with my Garmin I was slightly off course, so I…read moreparked at The Fort. Oh my gawd. I had no idea what I walked into but I swear if a place sells genuine cowboy boots I find it. The Fort puts Boot Barn to shame (Sorry Boot Barn). If St. Joseph Boots has 17,000 pairs, I would say The Fort has about half. I've not visited St. Joseph boots, by the way. I smelled the leather when entering The Fort, and my nose immediately found the boots. Goodness, how can I choose just one? They have hundreds. Not just cowboy boots, but there's a pair with peace signs on them. While I was there, they had an ankle boot sale. I tried on a few pairs and left with a pair of Durangos...this was the first time in the store. The second time, I wanted to see if those ankle boots were still on sale. It pleased me cause they were...oh and the sandals with silver beads were on sale. I'm not normally much of a shoe person, either. They have boot services too, stretching and other services. I absolutely can not stand country music, but you'd never know it by my love for cowboy boots. Did I mention the size of The Fort? It's huge. All I'm saying is, Go there.

Not being from St Joseph it was very difficult to access this store, but boy we were happy that we had finally arrived at a place that wanted our business. We were greeted with a friendly hello and my son and I made our way over to the boots. He found several pair that he liked and was settling on a pair of ariats or durangos. He was unsure, until a clerk came over and gave her expert advice and then also advised him that he would get a military discount on them as well. Because they were so willing to help us, unlike the other large Boot company in town, we were able to make our purchase and leave feeling great about the new boots. In a time when customer service is Paramount, the Fort has it down pat

I got the MOST amazing dress here last summer! I love stopping by to chat with the shop's owner,…read moreAmy. She has a sweet style herself and always answers questions about the clothes and jewelry. I have a ton of questions because there is a huge selection. On the first Saturday of each month, they participate in a special event and have free bites and drinks in the back section of the shop, so I always make sure to stop in then. They also have a small vinyl collection and I found a sweet Cannonball Adderley record there. I'm a sucker for vintage jazz records and they have a nice smattering from American and Kansas City greats. If you are in the area, it's a must do.

This was such a great place to get some unique, very well priced stuff for me and my fiance. Very…read morelaid back- you know how hard it is for a business to make the customer feel unhurried and unpressured, yet also confident in prompt and friendly assistance if and when needed? That was definitely the vibe here. And hey, awfully neat stuff. I know the couple behind the place a little and they are quite the St. Joe entrepreneurs. It's pretty well impossible to respond to knowing Amy and Brian Meyers at all without resorting to just rooting all out for them to succeed at their mission of revitalizing downtown St. Joe. But you know how there are places you WANT to like and root for and all that but... yeah, they aren't places you would take someone from out of town, right? Well, I took my fiance from New Zealand to The Lucky Tiger and was so glad I did. Not just a great little local business, but lots and lots of stuff that looked very good to both of us. So I would recommend a browse- what have you got to loose except some guilt over contributing to Wal Mart?
