My last few weekly HyVee store visits have been nothing but disappointing to say the least. The times I've been there over a few month's period of time, there is less and less staff, sometimes one to two checkouts open only and with sometimes only two self-checkouts open. Thad, Customer Service Manager, told me they weren't busy, but would call for extra cashiers when more customers comes in. I have witnessed this not to be the case. I said Price Chopper will have at any given time five checkouts open and Thad's sarcastic reply to that was "but, we bring in more money than Price Chopper". So immature and I told him that remark was uncalled for. Thad was aggressive both verbally and physically (see below). I called for a manager, but got Chris, an Asst. Store Manager, and he listened, but I could tell was not wanting to do anything. While I was standing there, three people with fairly full carts were in line with one checkout open and when I pointed this out to Thad, well low and behold, Chris went to the phone to call for another cashier. When I asked Thad's name, he quickly leaned into my face with his shoulder to show me his I.D. badge. I may wear glasses, but I can see, and literally shoulder to my face. That was unnecessary as well. Their own staff are fed up with the management when I mention lack of checkouts open. If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm done shopping at HyVee! read more

I have to say that I was super impressed with this grocery store in St. Joseph Missouri! I couldn't believe the meat counter!!! I was shocked by all the different cuts of meat that they had on display! Nothing like the meat counters we have to choose from here in Rhode Island!! I was also very impressed with the large liquor section they had! Aside from me being wowed by all the things we don't have in RI, I will say the store itself was very clean, the lines moved very quickly and the staff was very friendly. read more

Going in store is usually a good experience. It's clean and the staff is friendly. For the size of the municipality that it is in, I think it offers a lot of options. I'm a vegetarian and can easily find plant based options such as tempeh, tofu, Morningstar Farms's products, Beyond Burger, etc. I've been living in St Joe for about 5 years and this has not always been the case, so they've expanded their selection and I appreciate that. I also think their quality of produce is solid as well. I definitely prefer it over Walmart's. I also like Hyvee's bulk item section where you can get wheat berries and nuts and quinoa and coconut along with so much more for a really good price. Too bad it's closed down because of COVID-19. And their liquor section is pretty stout with all the beer, liquor and wine they have! I've read some of the poor reviews this store has gotten that pull their Yelp star rating down and they aren't really reviews of the entire store. They're fair, but if you aren't calling them to see what they have in stock or using their floral services, this place will do you well as a regular grocery store. I did recently have a poor experience with their online shopping service for pick-up and that is why I'm not giving it 5 stars. My recommending Hyvee online grocery shopping service would depend on the person's expectations for the service. If you aren't super picky about what you want and are ok with inspecting the order at the time of pick-up, then this will do just fine for you. My first time experience using this service is detailed below. Unfortunately, I did not receive my entire order when I first stopped by for pick-up, so I had to go back to Hyvee after putting everything away at home and noticing the missing items. Apparently part of my order was mislabeled and for some reason, they couldn't figure out who's it was, so it seems like they were just going to wait until someone complained. Not sure what they see on their end, but it should be easier for them to solve those problems and either resolve it before the customer picks it up or notify the customer of the mistake afterwards, even if they've already picked up their order. It would suck to make that call, but being proactive like that would've gone a long way, IMO. I was offered cookies extra at no charge for the trouble, which was nice, but there is room for improvement when those situations arise. Btw, I opted for a bunch of bananas instead of the cookies. And I'm pretty particular when it comes to items I select, so I was sure to mark the box "no substitutions" when I know something else will not be acceptable. I ordered Tostitos Cantina Thin & Crispy style chips online but noticed that I got Tostitos Cantina Traditional chips, which are pretty much the thickest style of tortilla chip you can get, so it was the opposite of what I ordered. I don't remember if I allowed substitutions for that but I don't think I did, and I'm guessing that the shopper saw "Tostitos Cantina" on my order and didn't know that there were more choices than what they first saw on the shelf. Additionally, this wasn't a rapid order so the shopper should've had plenty of time to carefully select my items off the shelves. Unfortunately, I didn't notice this issue until after I went back the second time, so I'm stuck with chips I won't eat. With all that being said, I will probably do online grocery shopping in the future. It's free and it was very convenient. But it won't be so convenient in the future for me because I will do better at inspecting my groceries before I leave the store to make sure all of this is sorted out before I leave the store. It just sucks that my first experience with this went so poorly. read more

Don't expect your college students to be treated well working here. My kiddo got the okay to move to a "flex" schedule after graduating high school and going out of state to college. He called them during break to be put on the schedule and was given the runaround by both his manager and Kate the inept HR person. He had to call back three times before someone made the excuse that he was fired due to "no show/no calls" even though he'd never been put on the schedule. They are as disorganized and rude as they sound. It's a pity, because good workers like him aren't common these days. Ciao HyVee! read more

I was switched to four different people, to help me to find one item I did not want to make the drive unless I knew they carried this certain item. All I got was let me get someone that can help you because I don't have any idea how to help you with this. I am from Washington state but have to deal with MO because of my daughter. Regardless, I have been completely let down by this store not once, but twice in the last two times I have made a floral purchuse. First time was a year ago. We ordered flowers for my wife's grandmother and the delivery got botched. I let that pass due to this only happening once. Fast forward to Valentines day 2017, and they messed it up again. First, being from Washington and having someone take flowers to my daughter I need to know more detail. When I order flowers from Hyvee I would expect to send someone to Hyvee to pick the flowers up, not a funeral home. But that is exactly what happened. Second, when we tell someone to write something on the card we expect to have a card. We do not expect my mother to turn around and get a card, then to be told that there were no instructions. When I know for a fact there were instructions on what to write. It was only 6 words. Knowing Saint Joseph I guess I should have seen it coming. Next time I will order from Savanah or something, hopefully the education level there is a little higher... read more

I really love this grocery store, we go to it even though Walmart is much closer! The fresh fruit and vegetable selection is always good and decently priced. I love the separate alcohol room that has everything you could need. Near that is several short rows of organic, gluten free, etc. items and a refrigerated section for it as well. I just love the HyVee prepared food area. When I have no idea what I want I go there and it bails me out every time. I just look around. Burnt ends. Baked fish. Fried chicken. Chinese food. Pizza and calzones. Salads galore. All of it pretty tasty as well. read more

The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. The store is always clean and the produce is of high quality. The pharmacy is almost always busy because of the helpful service so sometimes one might have to wait. There are times the deli/cafeteria food could be fresher but the service is always helpful and friendly. read more

Normally I love this store, and my family and I go here alot for things we need. Recently my brother had a birthday; so my mom ordered his cake from here. When we called they said they could do a football cupcake cake with NFL on it and the happy birthday on the cake. They told us they could do it with 22 cupcakes. When we got it; the football didn't look like a football; it looked like a big turd. The letters were not on the cake nor were they neat. They were on the cardboard and very sloppy; to where you could hardly read the words. To top it all the cupcakes were very dry; I am extremely displeased and we will not be using this store for birthday cakes anymore. I also do not recommend anyone else to either. read more

This is THE best grocery store in St. Joseph! It's clean, well lit and very well stocked. They have great weekly sales and offer a fuel-saver card where you can earn $ off when you purchase various items. I like that they are stocked with just about any food item you need. The produce here is fresh and the area is AlWAYS clean and tidy. The employees are super helpful and always friendly. I shop here each week for fresh meat, produce, cheeses & deli foods. Their prices are a little higher on a few things but not everything & if you pay attention to the sales you can do great on your grocery bill. They have a fabulous health & organic section. They offer a drop off site for dry cleaning. Their coffee shop is s nice treat too! read more

This is a nice clean store, but I am becoming so exasperated by a seemingly intentional effort to over charge customers regarding weekly ads. In every single occasion in the past 2 years, I have had to correct register over charges for ad items. On one occasion the overcharges amounted to 33% of my total charge on about a $100 of groceries. It appears the store has made a policy to not enter many of advertised items. Most in store reductions are not in scanners at checkout either. Be sure to check your receipt at checkout you will likely find an overcharge. The checkout people cannot correct errors and the store forces you to go through a second customer checkout for a refund of just checked items. I am sure most customers don't bother. In addition the store often put signs of low prices directly in front of similar items not on sale. Very deceptive and dishonest store in my opinion. I marked the store pricey because of systematic overcharging. read more

I used St Joseph Hyvee for the first time last week.It was cater a meal for my family that is caring for my aunt around the clock at home.I was ordering the meal from Texas since I could not be in St.Joseph at the moment due to work constraints.When I flew in from Texas today and asked how the meal was, my cousin told me the parmesean chicken was not done and was still running juices.Now mind you, this is basically the only thing I could do for my family from several states away.Also $165 is nothing to sneeze at.When I called catering and spoke to the manager Andy he politely told me there was "nothing" he could do we did not call when we discovered the food was undercooked.My family is caring for my aunt around the clock, trying to prolong her time here on earth.My point is, is it hard to believe that calling was not the first thing on their mind? When Andy told me there was nothing he could do, I thanked him politely and hung up.I was very dissapointed in Hyvee.Im getting married in two months and using the Hyvee in Liberty.My family and I already did the taste testing there and there was no issue with the parmesean chicken there.It actually will be one of my entrees.What I thought he could have done was offered to give some sort of different entree or even a bucket of chicken.I don't care. Hyvee did deliver a lovely catered meal.Its just that the chicken was not done.I can not speak for the rest of the store or even the Hyvee catering on a different day or maybe with a different entree.But the one I ordered is the one that matters to me. read more

Friendliest store in town. I am routinely asked "May I help you find something?" If I do need help they ALWAYS walk with me to the item, so refreshing. The guys at the meat counter are great, and don't mind me being picky and having them rifle through their selections for JUST the right one. Lol. HyVee is clean, the produce is fresh, and the people who work there seem to enjoy it. We also enjoy the deli/hot food area, their asian cook is awesome and is always laughing and smiling. It took a few a months to locate this floral dept. I attempted to use individual florists in this town, before deciding to go to a grocery store floral dept. All I can say is I am truly sorry I didn't go to them from the very first. The service I receive and quality of product is way beyond anything I have seen lately. Customer service is fabulous, I always enjoy my experience, which to me is as important as sending the flowers. I live out of state and feel comfortable ordering over the phone. Very disappointed in this store. They claim to be so community orientated but deny the right for Boy and Girl scouts to sell their products outside the store. In fact, they deny all local programs and organizations. These kids rely on these sales to be able to go to camp and participate in other group activities. The manager said that there just isn't room the set anything up outside but they make plenty of room for their own employees to sell Hy-vee food and products outside. Shame on this store! read more
