I went in wanting to buy some designer glasses and another customer was already running around the store trying to get someone to open the cases to try on some glasses. Once she found help for us, I asked if I could try a couple on too. I was told by the sales associate that only one person at a time can be helped. Fine. I waited for another 10 minutes for the other client to choose which glasses she would buy. The sales associate then told me she had to go help them at the register and needed to find the cases for the glasses too. Another 15 minutes went by. At that point I just left. They're clearly not interested in making a sale. Such a shame because before this lock up situation, I used to buy all my glasses from this location. Looks like I'll need to find another store.

The MIT FX only sells to patrons with university affiliation in the greater Boston area. Customers must show a valid university ID in order to make a purchase. I only arrived in the city a few days ago and have not picked up my new ID, but Julie was SUPER nice and helpful, allowing to show her my university email address on my iPhone as proof. There are a few new items available (all mattresses are NEW - they don't accept used ones), so I picked up a brand new full-sized futon frame AND mattress for $225. Then, I came away with some good buys on used stuff too: small wooden dining table and four chairs ($75), a not too obnoxiously floral sofa ($50), a small wooden coffee table ($15), and a broad wooden desk ($40). I also picked up misc. items like plates, toaster, lamp, plastic drawers, etc. for real cheap as well as couple of things on the house since I was making a huge purchase. Inventory, of course, changes all the time. You can find stuff for all rooms in your house. The store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as 1st Saturdays, and during the peak move-in month, August, a few more Saturdays. They have a good relationship with Your Move Inc. for deliveries where you'll pay $60/hour instead of the moving company's normal $100/hour. Only complaint is that the FX is NOT a ten minute walk from the Red Line, as the website suggests. Just take the 47 down from the T, and you'll be better off than walking 15-20 minutes down from Central Square. I will totally return for random stuff here again. Thanks!

A chocolates and cookies Ghirardelli's gift set for $20, an Italian chocolate box for $7 and a small box of Belgian chocolate for $5. Also picked up some snacks - moose munch caramel popcorn and a last minute checkout aisle grab of Cuddl Duds socks 4 pair pack for $10. Came home and wore them - very soft and warm cozy! Also got an arabbiata pasta sauce jar. Oh and a festive table runner for $17. Cashier was friendly and helped while I was loading our bags. Restroom was actually not too bad. When I asked the cashier if they had any other styles, she said no, but as I was leaving I noticed dozens of other gift cards displayed elsewhere in the store. By then, I didn't have time to wait again. The cashier seemed either poorly trained or just didn't care to help, which made the whole experience frustrating and a waste of time.

All was not lost as Sylvia was helping us and offered several different options for my mom to try. She was super helpful, even helping my mom get the shoes on and lacing them up. I can't remember the last time I've seen that level of assistance in a shoe store. She was absolutely fantastic with my mom, answering questions and even showing her a special way of lacing her sneakers to help prevent heel slippage. My mom ended up getting two pairs of shoes that she said were so comfortable, and raved about Sylvia to the woman at the register. I took a star off as I'm a size 11ish and can rarely find shoes that fit me-most shoes only had sizes up to 10 available, but I'm so glad my mom had such a great experience today.
