Revlon nail art at Dollarama (Empress Walk) $2.50 . april 2014

Well it is your usual Dollarama. You can get pretty good bargains if you come often around the area. They keep the place quite clean and there is enough space to walk around with a stroller. This is in the second floor so you can shop easily because I rarely see this location with a lot of people. Bigger than the one at Sheppard and Yonge. If you cant find something in one you can always try one TTC subway stop way. If you are going to Michaels (corner south of Empress Walk - http://www.yelp.ca/biz/michaels-arts-and-crafts-north-york) for a craft project, take a couple of minutes and go to Dollarama first. I have purchased acrylics, beads, stickers, craft and scrapbook paper here first and then I go and stock in more detailed and specialized items at Michael's. $1 pearl stickers can be priced as high as $3 at Michael's. Same idea applies if you are planning to grocery shop at Loblaws (basement of Empress Walk - http://www.yelp.ca/biz/loblaws-supermarket-north-york). You can find, for example, affordable cleaning products, non PBA storage containers, among other things at Dollarama as well. Cons: no credit cards. As all Dollarama stores you have to pay cash or debit. There are a couple of ATM machines in the plaza (first floor near the convenience store) but if you want to save money on the fees, there are several banks outside around the corner. Every time there are fewer items marked $1. Those over $2 are worth the price but don't expect to find everything at exactly one dollar. If you are planning to use the elevators (especially if you come from the Subway station) prepare to walk from corner to corner and take 3 different ones!!! The one thing I miss of the other dollar stores is a better selection in cosmetics. Here its pretty much nonexistent. Except for Wet n Wild nail polishes. Just recently I found two E.L.F brushes (the eyeshadow and the foundation). I also noticed they have a decent selection of Revlon regular nail polishes for $2 (the spring colours are not too bad) and nail art polishes for $2.50. I also saw some O.P.I nail stickers for nail art. But if you are looking for the real OPI polishes don't forget there s Added Beauty supply store on the corner north of Empress Walk (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/added-beauty-limited-north-york) Happy bargain hunting!

Chalkboard msg boards, Essie and Sally Hansen nail appliqués @ Dollarama

My go-to place for all my household goods. I love Dollarama, it's a fantastic store with many products prcied from $1-3. They stock up all the time and get new products in regularly. Each store is different so be aware that one store might not be as stocked as another. Lately, I've been coming here to get my nair-glamming accessories. They carry a selection of nail appliques from brands such as Essie and OPI as well as Sally Hansen. They also carry limited selection of nail polish from Essie, OPI ans Sally Hansen. Also I've seen lots of stickers, and glitter and jewels from Sephora by OPI. I love their selection of kitchen utensils, gadgets, and dish towels etc. The also have many variety of craft supplies, I recently found some chalkboard signs that I've been looking for. They also carry many full-sized hair-styling products, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion for $3 or less. They have many travel size product which are always useful when you are on the go. Once in a while I would find Maybelline mascara or Burt's bees chapstick which are great deals. Great place for getting colgate toothbrushes for my husband and cheap cleaning products for the toilet. I can never get bored of this place because they are continuingly surprising me all the time with new products. I would always see something in other stores that I want but didn't buy because I thought it was too expensive. And eventually I would find it at Dollarama! This location is definitely better than the Sheppard location in terms of selection and service. They lost a star because don't expect the staff to be knowledgeable of where anything is, because they are not.

The odd occasion that I do visit is on a Saturday or Sunday, I could've been unlucky. You do have to go up to the front counter to open boxes if you want to see what's inside (some boxes are obvious but others are not so clear). You can also test electrical products by plugging it in. I wish when they reseal it, they at least label the box to let the next person know what's inside so if they're not interested, they don't waste their time opening it. Just be aware, things that don't work are thrown back in the bin but the staff would let me know if they recognize what it is or if it works before I attempt. This month I peeked in and found some great finds like a neck massager retailing at $50-60 for $20 and today, I've found Coop pillow for $20 completely sealed and unused! What a score 10% of the retail price! There are other Amazon pillows there too but I think people didn't know about this brand so they passed by it. This pillow is great, at the top end of pricing and highly recommended on Reddit. I also have one myself and enjoy it (not the cooling one though so this Eden one would be great for the warmer months). Do I need another one? Probably not but it is the thrill of the find, that keeps people coming back. The neck massager works well and I have it to use while I relax on my couch.

When you come in, it does give a slight attic smell, which I don't mind. They told me they usually restock on Thursdays and the other location by Sterling Road usually carries even more inventory. I purchased a shiatsu massager and back up Aukey earphones that were new in package from the Ex. However, the earphones didn't work. The great thing is they are one of the few or probably only liquidators that I know that allows for a 7 day return if there's an issue. Normally most discount liquidators I've been to, it's pretty much the final sale. I wasn't able to visit within 7 days, but did send them an email with the issue with the earphones so they extended the warranty for me to come in within the end of the month to get store credit or exchange, which I'm so grateful for. Apparently they sold hundreds of those earphones and only a few came back with issues. I was able to drop by yesterday after work and decided to exchange for another shiatsu massager for my in-laws. What I appreciate about this spot is that it's relatively organized in shelves with multiple copies of an item. There are bargain bins too for $5 if you really want to search for any deals and treasures. I much prefer than other liquidators where usually things are thrown in bins and you don't know exactly what it is until you open it. The staff there was also super patient and friendly. Definitely if you're in the area peek in and see if you score any deals. They will be moving back inventory from the Ex today and the pricing seems to be the same. Though they might offer tax off discounts with cash at the Ex but not at the store.

The store has taken over the entire space Rona used to be, making it incredibly large. With slight exaggeration, you could get 10k steps in just looking around. There are a wide variety of goods being offered, and the prices are often even cheaper than Dollarama (though some stuff is kinda overpriced in comparison, like $30 kitchen shelves?) so I guess they win some lose some. I found some really good deals for plates, kitchenware, hair accessories, stationary, and foam rollers. Since the place is so big, it's hard to find a worker, and even if you find someone, they likely will not know the answer. It's okay though... explore away!

(They falsely advertise it like the real thing, listing its regular / retail cost as $29.99) I unfortunately and wrongfully assumed that they would be selling legitimate brands / items and just purchased a couple of items from them but upon close examination of the Flawless hair remover and comparing it to the real one after I came home, I realized I had been bamboozled and I now question and have to double check everything else I purchased from them. Not that I can return anything because of their "all sales are final" policy. I took the time to write this to caution the public so others are aware as I would have liked to be prior to visiting this place.
