She mentioned that she got her start taking a Lakewood Parks & Rec class at this place so I signed up. $40 for 8 weekly 45-minute sessions. So far I've attended three classes and I'm really enjoying it. The instructor, Janet, is really nice and fun and the 45 minutes just fly by, learning dances like Waltz Across Texas, Cowboy Hustle, and the El Paso Cha Cha. If you're looking for a Zumba-like workout this isn't it, but I do break a sweat and I figure any hobby that gets you moving is a good one! For the record, I am not a country music fan, but I don't mind it for this type of dancing. The Center itself is very nice, located in a quiet residential area near the corner of Lakewood and Candlewood. There is plenty of parking and we have our class in the spacious Activity Room. The best part has been feeling like a young whippersnapper (even though I'm 40) because most of my classmates are quite a bit older than me, hee hee!

From their web page... the Senior Services Center is closed until further notice during the coronavirus pandemic. Normal hours would be Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm. Seniors 60 years and older are eligible to participate. Bingo games Classes for exercise, art, movies, etc. Food distribution Home delivered meals Senior transportation Nutrition program M-F with a $2.25 donation If you have time to volunteer, new volunteers are always needed. The staff truly cares for their patients here and gets to know most of them and their families very well. The center is always coming up with new ideas to keep the patients having fun such as bringing in mariachi bands, having birthday celebrations for the patients, and even getting the staff involved with some events such as watermelon eating contests during the summer! As someone who moved to California from a different state I can say this is such a unique type of program that is not offered in a lot of other states.

Upon our arrival breakfast was being served. Marianne mentioned all meals were prepared right there on site. That's a plus. I was confused as I read that the adult day care does provide transportation, however in my mother in laws case she has to have her own transportation. Don't know why ! I was wondering what thier day to day activities were. Same time trying to figure out if my mother in law would thrive being at there location. I was told that I must bring my mother in law and pick her up. I was a bit confused as there flyer mentioned transportation. We were showed the activities they did that day of tour. We sat in Marianna office. Where we were told paperwork needed to be filled out by the primary and returned to thier facility. Then we would have to wait for that paperwork to be sent to a certain department fprever looks like how pending would be. It's a big hassle getting doctor's to sign paperwork geez my mother in laws primary still has the paperwork for over 2 months. It's a new facility it opened in February of 2024 there is no parking for this location other than what's available in the front of business. Marianne mentioned that I could bring my mother in law 3 days without paperwork. I still have yet to get there as the doctors office still has not done what my loved one needs. So she's in limbo. The adult day care had everyone in one room and separated on different table doing a craft others doing something others eating and or sitting.
