DO NOT SHOP HERE. This shop stole $200 from me. I bought a dress here at the end of April for $200. I took the dress home, then found out the event I had been planning to wear it to was canceled. The following Friday I went back to the store to return it. No one was there, despite the signage and the website saying the store should be open. I called the number on the website and a different number on the front door asking when their hours were. Didn't hear back. Okay, fine. I sent them an email. Never heard back. I went back to the store the following Sunday. They're closed despite the signage, again. So finally on May 16th I bring the dress down there a third time, on a Saturday this time, and they're open. They explained that they don't usually do returns, but that they'd allow me to make a return this time, in exchange for a gift certificate, but it would take a few days to process. They wrote down my email, phone number, physical address, and said they would get back to me by the following Tuesday at the latest. I also left the dress with them, which now I see was a stupid move. It's June 2nd! I've called them! I've emailed them! I've physically gone down there, and they were, surprise, closed when they said they would be open! They have obviously not responded to anything. So: I don't have a dress. They have my $200. They're not returning my calls. What am I supposed to think, here? I'm obviously never buying anything from them again, and I strongly suggest you don't either. read more

What an adorable little shop! I love all the vintage style dresses from rockabilly to classy fringe dresses. And let's talk about the cute cute shoes!! They have vintage-style wraps, jewelry, purses, parasols, tulle petticoats...and so much more! I only stopped in to see if by chance they had a nicer necklace that I originally brought with me from home. Spending NYE in NOLA was a little last minute. I walked out with not only a new necklace, but i ended up with matching earrings, bracelet, these adorable shoes and one of the girls suggested a head piece and I just got caught up in everything so shiny! Dolls& Dames will take you back to the look and feel of the 1050's, but at 2050 ( yep, I wrote 2050) prices. First off, let me say I absolutely adore the store. They have two locations in the United States. One in Seattle Washington, and the other in New Orleans Louisiana. The store in New Orleans is slightly bigger, but they both carry pretty identical inventory. I've been in the store twice, and both times left with exactly the same feeling. The customer service is absolutely deplorable. I do not mind a quality snooty store, but I do mind a snooty store that overcharges just because of the location, and not because of the quality of merchandise they carry. I had my eyes on a pair of shoes, and went to take a picture, unlike many stores in the area apparently, pictures are not permitted. I get it. I really do. However, the way I was told was rather rude, and frankly unprofessional for sales environment. Regardless, I was interested enough in the pair of shoes that I still wanted to ask questions. At one point, apparently the shoes were custom ordered. They no longer are and haven't been for quite some time. The sales girl said something about the heels no longer being made and the inventory they had is what they had. She also said that they had more coming in. Totally confusing. The shoes are reasonably price for boutique items that allegedly are all handmade in Spain. Having said that, they are also more than what the average woman would probably feel comfortable spending on a pair of shoes that would not be worn on a regular basis. The shoes are approximately $250 plus. Again, unless you dress like you are in the 1950s on a daily basis, the price tag is rather high. I took a quick look around the store and they definitely have some very unique and interesting items. The four stars are for the items that they carry, and not for the service and treatment of customers. The sales people just made us feel rather uncomfortable, and I have a policy of not spending money in a place that does not make me happy. They did everything else: shoes, hair, a touch of blush to the cheeks. Seriously, you'd think you were at some ultra high end shop that would be kicking Pretty Woman out the door, but it's not the case. Figure on price points ranging around 120-150 bucks for a really pretty dress (they have casual to dressy). Accessories are at very affordable price points (I purchased gorgeous red gloves and a studded belt for a total of 60 bucks). Shoes are of good quality and will run you around 150 (note: they have the kind of heels that are so comfy you'd never know you were wearing heels). They will alter any dress to flatter your figure, ladies. That's kinda priceless, especially in a town where it's not the easiest thing in the world to find a good tailor. Just sayin'. I'm a huge lover of pinup, rockabilly and vintage fashion. Tatyana/Bettie Page, Lindybop, Pinupgirlclothing, etc. galore! I was super excited to see this store on our way to Huck Finn's. Gotta say though, it was a bit of a disappointment. For one, the prices were outrageous! Almost all the clothing was 100+ dollars, and believe me, I am used to that because pinup clothing does not come cheap. However, some of these dresses they were selling were way overpriced. Jesus Christ, cheap Leg Avenue hosiery was double the price. $200 bucks for a pair of Mary Janes, are you serious? As well, the sale area wasn't truly a sale area. What's the point of a sale area if regular priced things are scattered in there too? One of the women working the floor said, "The sale is all scattered through out there." What really got me was a lot of the dresses I saw were eerily similar to other print/style dresses I've seen elsewhere. The one that really rubbed me the wrong way was that there was a wiggle dress with golden foil notes on black background. I knew I had seen it somewhere; I had seen it on Pinupgirlclothing marketed as the style "Downtown Dame" by the lovely Micheline Pitt (her brand Deadly Dames). I thought that perhaps they bought wholesale, but their logo was put inside the dress...let alone the same dress was marked at regular price as 228 bucks (80 bucks more than the original dress). Perhaps I'm watching too many X-Files, but it was a weird moment to see that. TL;DR Ladies, if you are looking for more bang for your buck, look elsewhere. This adorable shop sells super cute 1950s style dresses in the most amazing patterns ever (cats, Star Wars, cherries and more). They also have a great selection of shoes in old timey styles. Best of all, they carry plus sizes! It's hard for curvy gals to find such fetching attire. This place is very pricey (expect to drop close to $200 on a pair of shoes and even more on apparel) but the stuff gives off a funky, one-of-a-kind vibe. Employees were friendly and helpful. My brain is in 1940's mode, and while in the Quarter, my mom and I thought to pop in to Dollz & Dames to see if I could find a dress. While I didn't find something for myself, I had a stellar experience with Heather who was the perfect amount of helpful, informed, and laid back. In stores like this, the salespeople can sometimes be overbearing. Heather was by no means pushy. First off, she fits the part quite well rocking a dress from the store and a streak through her perfectly coifed hair. I told her I needed a dress for a 1940's party. She asked if I was trying to win the Best Dressed contest, which I thought was a clever question if you're going for authenticity. She showed me the dresses of that era, and explained that there may have been some women in 1920s/30s style around in the '40s, but they gave most their clothes away due to the war. She ALSO told me polka-dots weren't even popular till the '60s I think! She really really knew her stuff. She gave me appropriate sized and colored heels to try on with the dress to show what it'd look like. I tried on a few numbers, and she didn't try to sell me on looks that didn't fit, which I really appreciate. Just as an FYI, the '40s style seems to have some very distinct stitchings that may or may not be flattering on your body type. For me it was kind of a crap shoot, but I"m sure some of these dresses would look lovely on other people. I would definitely pop in again to check out more of their items though its very much era/look related. They did have some men stuff, and some cool shoes as well. I found my dress soul mate here, and through I dropped more on it than I would normally, it will serve for years to come as my go-to fancy dress. The best part? Machine wash and dry. (SCORE!) The racks are filled with amazing and inspired patterns and lots of different beautiful cuts that are flattering for every body type and size. If you like one print but a different dress style, they can make it for you! They also do alterations, shoes, etc. The service was the best, and the owner is clearly in love what she does. I should have known better than to stumble into a cute clothing shop while slightly tipsy. The Old New Orleans Rum Distillery has a drop off point right nearby, and I can't be sure that this isn't on purpose. I was drawn in by the sale racks (and the super cute outfit on one of the women standing outside who worked there), and I came out with two dresses. I can't tell you how it happened, I can only say that the woman who helped me (the facebook page suggests her name is Lexy) was outstanding. She even gave me a few ideas for how to wear the two dresses I got. I can't believe I blew my whole clothing budget in one shop, but THAT'S HOW CUTE THEIR STUFF IS. If you are tipsy and need to control your pursestrings, don't walk in. Just don't. Because you will find some cute dresses, Lexy will help you accessorize them, you will fall in love, and then you'll walk out with four new dresses that you've somehow justified to yourself. On Christmas morning smiles turned to frowns. The staff from then forward was incredibly difficult to work with and refused to correct the problem. New Orleans is a fabulous city for vintage inspired clothing shopping, but Dollz & Dames is one of the best. They carry lots of great staples from other lines, but the real gems are their own dresses made from deadstock vintage materials. If you don't fit into standard vintage sizes, these dresses are the closest you'll get to authentic 1930's pieces without a time machine. As an added bonus, they carry a great selection of makeup, shoes and vintage lingerie! They'll also do in-house alterations to make sure your dress fits perfectly, which is great if you're extra curvy or have less standard proportions. Their dresses are also washable, which makes them much easier to deal with than many other vintage reproduction lines. We stopped in this great little shop while walking through the city. Great shop with some very unique and nice clothing that really actenuates my wife's great body. Shea spent nearly and hour and a half helping my wife with various outfits and accessories including shoes, hair, belts, jackets. Suggesting items to accentuate her curves. Total tourist scam shop! Went here to get a gift for my wife for our 5 year anniversary, turned into an absolute nightmare. I stopped in on my way home from work and purchased a matching antique brass Kennny Ma (rather inexpensive jewelry online - I later found out) necklace and bracelet for a total of $325. Afterwards, I looked the stuff up and found out that it was marked up over double the online shops, however, it was unique looking and that had value to me + rent is expensive in Seattle so it was whatever. Note: Nowhere in the store does it say no refunds or 20% restocking fee. Turns out my wife is allergic to brass:/ So I went back to return the items. The girl working the counter was on her first day, she tried to be as helpful as possible, called the manager (Nicole) who was out of town at the time, but ultimately was only able to reiterate the ridiculous offer of a refund with %20 "restocking fee" - literally throwing some tags on. I could tell the new girl was super embarrassed and taken back having to tell me this. So Nicole wanted to charge me $65 for absolutely NOTHING!?! Literally we are talking about a return due to a medical condition. I was told to come back on a Thursday or Friday if this didn't work for me. I came back the following Friday and the elusive manager Nicole is nowhere to be found. I talk to the girl at the counter and explain the circumstance, she says that she is also a manager but will have to call Nicole about the refund? I asked to speak with her - nope. Basically, passes the same hustle over the phone and then relies on her employees having to say, "my hands are tied, sorry". Then I read all the reviews and realized that this place is a total scam shop. They mark up cheap stuff that's readily available online for 1/3 sometimes 1/4 of the price!?! The staff is kind and I feel bad that they have to deal with the backlash of people finding out how much they overpaid or when they're floored by a no refund policy-which basically doesn't exist anywhere anymore. Because I had to come back twice and they still owe me $65, I am considering a small claims suit for lost time + the amount owed on principle of how awful I was treated by the "phone manager". Why can't you just sell nice quality stuff with a slight markup (for being a boutique) instead of hustling your customers? You'd rather get $60 and a review like this? read more

While my experience in store was wonderful (thanks to the helpful employees) my experience since then has been everything but. I spent $150 on a single dress and after wearing it once, it LITERALLY started coming apart at the seams. When I contacted the company, they had the audacity to tell me it was a simple fix and I should pay to have it sewn. They offered me no option to have the item replaced or refund my money. Heather and Lexi were amazing. They helped my friend and I find the most perfect dresses, and as a busty girl, it's sometimes difficult to find things to fit properly after the rack. Heather even took her belt off, showed my friend how to properly belt her dress, so of course the belt was purchased as well. I'm so glad I only visit New Orleans, I might have an addiction problem ( though the lovely salesgirls didn't neglect to mention there is an etsy shop, and they even ship internationally). Poor customer service! I am someone who does not mind paying for something I love, but am completely turned off from spending money where the customer service is deplorable. When I walked into the store there were no other customers. I saw a cute pair of shoes and asked to try them on in my size. The employee was visibly and vocally irritated that I had the audacity to ask for assistance and continued to flit around before finally deciding to get the shoes. After trying them on, 2 more people walked into the store. They had not yet asked for any assistance but the employee made a point of making an announcement to all of us that she would get to us when she was available and to not bombard her. I asked her if she would call the store in Seattle to see if the other store had a different size in the shoes. Again, she was annoyed at my request for assistance. I continue to browse while waiting and then the employee lied that the other store did not have the shoes I was looking for, which I know because a) although calling she never actually got through to anyone bc I was standing There when she called and b) the other store had not yet opened for the day (time difference). I was so put off by her lack of customer service that I refused to shop in the store further. Good Customer service is everything esp in a Covid era when so many local businesses are suffering. You would think they would be appreciative for the business. Quite frankly I was appalled by the demeanor and unwillingness to be bothered to provide assistance that I would never shop there again. Because of the different cuts of dresses I ranged from a large in one style and a 2X in another, so you definitely should try on what you like! Worst shopping experience ever. I had just made a purchase of a vintage jacket at wild life reserve and thought I'd swing over to dollz and dames to spread a little money to another local business. They were less than welcoming and refused to let me.hang on to anything as I shopped. In less than three minutes two different sales associates either removed items from my hands or asked to put items at the counter or in a dressing room although I made it clear I didn't want to try on the two slips I was interested in. When asked if I wanted to try on the slips I said "No" and they proceeded to take them from me anyway to put one behind the counter and one in a dressing room. I was approached this way four times and the only person treated this way. Shopping while black clearly not allowed here. Never again, unless my Master's educated, gainfully employed person wants women in retail to treat me like a common thief. Update on 11/14: The owner has since contacted me three times today to discount my experience as if I somehow "misunderstood' , but has not once apologized for their behavior, hence the lengthy diatribe you will see following the review I wrote while standing outside their store immediately after the incident. This was after I left their store to crickets when I stated to said associates after they took the second item from me, "Fine. If you don't want me in your store I'll leave." So I blocked her to avoid further aggravation after an already bad experience, and they just continue to pretend that "no" doesn't mean "no" to certain customers at Dollz & Dames. Update on 11/15: Nicole, the owner has never contacted me to resolve the situation, but only to further discredit my account by saying it simply never happened. Here's my advice. You would have made a completely different impression if you had approached me when I first entered the store and was looking at the shoes. Nobody asked me if I wanted anything then. It was only when I picked up a slip that I was henpecked, not just once, but twice. One of the slips had an elastic waste and the other had just an open top and was missing a button. That is why I said "no" to both requests to try them on or put them behind the counter. Yet the staff took them from me anyway. I have gotten five other e-mails about the owner of the store addressing my review after I blocked her, which considering how harangued I felt when I tried to shop in this store should not surprise me. I just went into this store for the first time and had a fantastic experience! They have a large variety of prints and shoes, and the service was excellent. The employees really know what they are talking about and were very helpful without making me feel smothered. It is a more expensive establishment, but I have found that a lot of rockabilly/retro stores are priced similarly, especially places with unique fabrics that simply cost more (and are frequently made in the US, vs. China etc). Same goes for online retail, but at least you can support a local business and avoid paying for shipping! Plus, it is nice to try on styles in person, especially the shoes (which are GORGEOUS!). The only thing--which I wish I had known before checking out and completely blowing my budget-- is that there is an option to tip at the end. The employees are excellent and 500% deserve it! But I had already exceeded my budget by $100 and really, truly could not afford to at this time. They were really polite about it and I swear will make up for it once have saved and return (because I definitely will!) but had I known, I would have minimized my purchases because the employees are fantastic and really deserve to be tipped. read more

Amazing dresses, shoes, and accessories you won't find anywhere else. Great store that really honors retro-styled fashion.

This was my absolutely favorite shop in all of New Orleans. Not only are the dresses absolutely adorable, they are designed and made in America! (Great quality...). The staff was INCREDIBLE. She made plenty of great suggestions, helped me in and out of outfits, and even hung everything back up as I was going. I guarantee I will stop here every time I visit New Orleans. read more
