Wow! Great service. My husband has gotten his hair cut (military cut) here twice and the second time we took our 16 month old son along for a trim. My Fellow Gentleman, (as I cannot speak on behalf of the ladies) If you are looking for the complete barber shop experience, I highly recommend this place. After moving here earlier this year, I have been on the hunt to find a new barber. Haircuts for men may often be something that is seen as an easy thing to do, and while it is easy to make the results "okay," it takes a great barber to make a great haircut. Finding a great barber is important especially if you are someone that gets a haircut every month or two, and like the barber to know just what you want. The interior is clean, and located conveniently downtown. The service was incredible! Even with just a little description of what I like, he was able to pull it off perfectly. On top of your normal haircut, he also used a straight razor and hot towel to square my neckline, to cut side burns, and to cut the hard part line. The whole time I was there, the barber just tried to get to know me, and very quickly in we were exchanging jokes and both laughing constantly. He reminded me a lot of my last barber I was loyal to, which even after the first visit, you left feeling less like a client and more like a friend. I have been to several other barbers in the Boise area and this ended up being the perfect one for me and I cannot give the barber enough praise for his skill, service, and personality. I've said it before, I'll say it again... there's no better shop in town than Don Juan's Barbershop. Guy uses the best straightrazors for close shaves, shapes beards perfectly, amazing haircuts, and killer product for sale that he'll never push on you. This is the dude that got me into using straightrazors, and I've been learning best practices and getting top quality kit from him ever since. Generally, when you hear "basement barbershop, straightrazors, beardcare" you assume it's going to invoke the unholy trifecta of men's grooming that's run rampant in trendy communities: expensive, hipsteriffic, and pretentious... - but DJ's isn't any of those things.His prices are criminally low, he's beyond down-to-Earth, and I've seen very few service providers (in any sector) that treat patrons with such respect, understanding, and the kind of assertive confidence that can only come from an expert. These are things you want in a person when they're putting a hot blade against your face. Time and time again, I see this guy go above and beyond the call. Tonight, it was catering to my ridiculous hairstyle ask as well as helping me get my hands on a rare & special shavette I've wanted to get for Jennie (Starshine) for ages, then taking the time to show me the nuances of that particular straight. I can't recommend 'em enough... it's been crazy to go from seeing Juan have downtime and marketing himself to fill his schedule, to where he is now: packed solid and wildly popular. Despite that, the guy always has time for me, and he will for you too. People ask me sometimes why I like Boise so much. Why Boise is the city i've spent the most time in since I left Austin, where I was born and raised. Sometimes this is preceded by extensive and ignorant potato-trolling... I pay that no mind, I know this town. Don Juan is the man. Wether you want just a trim or a full on cut, Juan takes his time to make sure your cut is expertly done and fits your needs. That is not to say he is slow. He performs all his work in a timely manner. I just got my bi-weekly trim up and my face shaved with the straight razor and I couldn't be happier with the results, as usual. The price ($25.00 for a cut and full face shave) is amazingly affordable. The staff is friendly and knowledge and the environment is fun. Juan gave a solid hair cut. I was a walk in, and he helped me right away. Juan was professional looking in a shirt and tie. I asked for a Faux hawk with a medium blended taper up the sides. He was careful to actually listen to what I said instead of just doing his own thing. He always asked before making drastic cuts if the length was ok or the shape was right. He took my dented oblong egg shaped head into consideration also. Because I asked not to be lined up in the back, he took 5 dollars off the hair cut for a total of 15$. Walked in and was questioned why I was there and if I made an appointment. When I said no I was just walking in the guy (Derek) sighed and said I think we can get you in. He had just finished one customers hair cut and had no one else waiting. He decided to engage in longer conversation and ignore me for about 5 minutes. Finally sat down in the chair and explained I wanted a Mohawk fade. He barley talked after that and asked no questions about the cut. (Point or flat back, how I want the fade, length, any off the top?) nothing. Came on a Saturday around noon and they didn't have any openings but a guy did schedule us an appointment for 2:30 that same afternoon. We walked around downtown came back and then the same guy that booked us the appointment asked if we had an appointment we said yes he went on to say that the appointment didn't save and asked if we could come back at 4:30. Absolute disappointment, didn't get any response whatsoever, after 4 calls/with messages and two text messages. I cant rate the actually services because I was never given the opportunity to take part in them however I can say that no response from a business owner after waiting patiently for 4 days says they don't need my money or business and if a company can turn down revenue without batting an eye then I'm happy to take my money elsewhere. What I thought would be an amazing gift for a special guy turned out to be huge disappointment. Scheduled with the Beard Mechanic and they couldn't have made the process any easier. Amazing haircut, best I've ever had as a matter of fact. Aaron did an exceptional job cutting my hair, which is very curly and hard to manage. I honestly did not think anybody could do that good of a job cutting my hair, boy was I proven wrong.
