Loved the Don Q Inn! We got the last themed room available - the shotgun room. It felt like every trailer I've ever been in. It was so perfect. Lots of unique and custom touches all over the hotel. The indoor/outdoor pool was wonderful. Staff was super nice despite it being a chaotic Saturday night with an entire bus load of college kids staying. I will say the breakfast was not good. If you want something truly unique & fun though, try out the Don Q Inn! I look forward to coming back!

The Don Q Inn is such an amazing place to stay, all the rooms are very nice and clean. The staff there are very friendly and helpful with any of your questions. Definitely coming back again!

The staff is great. The accommodations are old but nothing wrong with them. Pool is clean. Nice and quiet. Very quirky decor. In the lobby there's an enormous fireplace surrounded by barber chairs. The room doors mimic stable doos. I stayed in a regular room. My friend stayed in 2 of the fantasy suites and liked them a lot. The breakfast is pretty good. Great biscuits. Could use some fruit.

We LOVED this place! The Fantasuites are SO cool! We couldn't decide which one to stay in, so the first night we stayed in Tranquility Base 1, and the second night we stayed in Northern Lights. Walking into Tranquility 1 was a serious jaw-dropper! And Northern Lights was awesome, almost like staying in your favorite miniature golf place. Both rooms were amazing! The barber chairs in the lobby were really neat, as well. The breakfast was a passable Great Value brand fare, but it fuels you up enough for your day at House on the Rock, which is only 10 minutes away. Another great thing was how great the water pressure is in the place! You usually don't find that in older motels. The biggest thing that made a difference was TK, the owner. He was so nice and so helpful! We discovered at about 10:30 PM that the lights in our igloo weren't working. He found some lights and came to our room and installed them right then and there! Anything that was wrong, he immediately responded, and was super friendly! He told us he has owned the place for seven years, and when he acquired it, the Fantasuites were run down and closed off. But he revitalized them and brought them back to their original fabulous life! If you want a boring motel, go elsewhere. If you want retro, kitschy, crazy, awesome, definitely stay here!

    Why? Nightmares of Sweeney Todd.

NOPE. My wife and I stayed here because there were no other rooms available at other hotels nearby Spring Green. We did not stay in a "fantasuite," and I am quite positive this option would not have improved the experience. This is the second worse hotel experience we have had in our 30 years of marriage and that is really saying something. Our worse hotel experience involved a room that was a converted banquet hall and a rain-soaked sofa on the balcony. So, let me begin this review that I hope serves as a public service announcement for those considering this establishment. First, upon arriving at about 10 pm, we got an inescapable, "Friday the 13th-Freddy Krueger," "Halloween-Michael Myers" vibe from this barn-shaped hotel with a creepy looking white steeple building at one end. It didn't help that the door to our hotel room was open when we arrived after walking down a hallway that seemed inspired by "The Shining." I kept expecting the two creepy blond twins to suddenly appear in the hallway. But, another important part of the initial experience is the overwhelming smell as you enter the building. The odor was one I imagined as "old age and fear" with a booster dose of mustiness and hot tub mold. The smell reminded me of dorms I have lived in that had a history of residents who made poor life decisions. It was a smell that I did not want to contemplate deeply. Also, a feature of the lobby was a circle of barber chairs surrounding a absurdly large fireplace. Some people find it "quirky." My take was more "ritualistic torture." After we arrived at the room, we quickly decided to get up early and leave as quickly as possible. My wife begged me to secure every available lock on the door immediately. After a quick once over of the bed for bedbugs and stains, we determined it was relatively safe to sleep in and prepared our things to quickly get ready in the morning and leave. The next morning, we were awakened by the sound of some "loud talkers," but that was less of a problem than the toilet which ran all night in terms of disturbing our sleep. My wife did not even want to put her head under water in the shower and I used bottled water to brush my teeth. The two-toned toilet, dated shower, and other things too horrible to bring back to memory sealed the deal that we will never return. To bookend this review...just... NOPE.

Would much rather stay here than some corporate cookie cutter hotel. Even though they are well known for their fantasy rooms I got just a regular ol motel room. The only rooms larger you can get elsewhere are suites. Mine had 2 library chairs, a bench at the end of the bedand a comfy rocker . With plenty of room to spare. It is showing its age a little but does not mean it's not clean. No complaints on cleanliness. Of course I love making waffles in the morning too. You can enjoy your time at DonQ the whimsy is interesting and somehow relaxing.

Yes, the Don Q is dated and a bit worn, but I wasn't exactly expecting the Four Seasons when I demanded to sleep in a fiberglass igloo with a polar bear rug on it. The igloo room has it all. A whirlpool tub, a polar bear rug, three TVs including one you can use to watch Child's Play 3 while in the whirlpool tub, a glitter mural of polar bears fighting, and of course an igloo. An igloo with a round bed in it. The room was just part of the fun. I also entertained myself in the tunnel between the hotel and restaurant. There's lots of spooky stuff in there (probably more when we went because it was a week after Halloween). The pool was great as well, and I appreciate anyone who still has the outdoor portion of their pool open in November. I took advantage of it. My husband did not. What a baby. We hit the state park across the street and farted around in the airplane out front. I'd be back if I'm visiting House on the Rock. I will say the restaurant was just "ok" so I'd probably hit Arthur's Supper Club instead. That place is also weird.

There was a mouse in our room. We checked out and went across the street. I stayed there several years ago. Not the same.

They were good at filling the toilet paper. We had a two room suite, which was huge but it lacked warmth. There was plenty of closet and drawer space. There was a sofa bed and normally you get a couple of extra pillows and a blanket. Nope. Room was clean and smelled fresh. Bathroom was very clean, especially the tub. The bathroom mirror rocked! Breakfast was not lousy tasting but basically meh. Donuts were mini chocolate hostess ones and only 3 or 4 in the container. Muffins were mini ones as well and again just a few. Sausage was nuked brown and serve that were super pale. Eggs were decent as were the bagels. English muffins were tiny and they had regular sliced bread. I was suspect of the cream cheese not kept on ice or at least cool. A few sad envelopes of oatmeal. I was reminded of early hotel breakfast days. Just felt sad.... I went to get a yogurt out of the fridge and there were only two in there. How about more? And why not some nice danish? An actual full sized donut? As for the fruit, just a couple of bananas and apples.. again, they seemed to do just enough to get by. We ate there twice and then skipped out to Country Kitchen for breakfast. Honestly, just okay. I appreciated the cleanliness but it felt closer to a Super 8 vs a Best Western.

When I first saw the listing with the excellent reviews and history of the house I felt this would be a fun place to stay. After spending the four nights my initial feeling was right on. This was the perfect place for our family to stay. Kathy greeted us when we arrived and helped us figure out where to have dinner that first night. We stayed in rooms 10 and 11. Those rooms have their own private bath and are on the second floor. It was as though we had a family apartment. The adults room had a king sized bed and the children shared a queen. Their room had a scavenger hunt within the stone walls, which they really enjoyed. After dinner the boys played table tennis and pop shots basketball. Kathy also treated them to an ice cream cone. Very sweet. There were also plenty of board games to play in the evenings. Breakfast was yummy and coffee aplenty! They do offer WiFi, but no screens, so it is easy to bond with your family and have some quality time together. This location was within walking distance to the swimming pool/park and Pendarvis (which is still closed). It is about a half an hour drive to House on the Rock, Cave of the Mounds, and Taliesin. Lots of fun side stops on the way to any of these places. Kathy is an awesome cook. We feel so fortunate to have met her, Dan, and Bobby Jo on our trip. The room is small but adequate for two people. It is nicely decorated and had a small reading nook. There is a small private balcony. The muffins provided for breakfast were yummy! We only had a couple of issues. The first was that the bathroom sink is located inside the room. I'm sure this was necessary due to the limitations of restoring a building this age. Our main complaint was the loud music that was played in the afternoon. I am not sure if this is a regular thing or just rude guests, but it was loud enough we could not rest after our long drive. If this was just rude guests, I can put it down to "people are people." If this was, however, a regular afternoon thing for the Inn, I would suggest the music be turned down or that guests booking Room 1810 be forewarned. All that being said - we think the Inn is a great asset to Mineral Point.

The cottage was once a summer kitchen, and sits a stone's throw from the main house. Both buildings are of the same stonework style that Mineral Point is famous for. The cottage sports two bedrooms, a family room, and a small bath. The plumbing is all modern, with great water temp and pressure, as well as central air conditioning. There is a microwave, a small fridge, and a coffee machine. Several interesting books and knick-knacks line the shelves, and the main bedroom has a cute little shelf of chocolates. Out back is a little garden and beyond that is the Cabin at Cothren. Both have exclusive parking with direct access to the road. The reservation process was great. We booked online, then the owner (who is very pleasant and sociable) contacted us to arrange payment. She processed our credit card through Paypal. A very easy transaction. Our only comment is that we would have liked to have had a little history of this particular property in a printed form, but I'm certain our hostess would have been more than happy to tell us if we had asked. (I later discovered that there is some historical info on their website.) It should be noted that the whole town rolls up their sidewalks pretty early, so plan ahead if you want to eat out locally. Also, note that although Yelp lists this as a bed and breakfast, it is not.
