This place was cheap and cool in a nostalgic, hipster kind of way. It didn't feel like a nasty motel but like a retro trip back in time. I liked the vibe of this place and it was lo-fi inside. No special TV or fancy stuff. Just a bed and bath and head on your way. My kind of place.

The…read moreroom was huge, giant whirlpool hot tub in the shape of a crater with a bedroom above as the space pod. Room was as a bit dated but clean and fully functional, not to mention hilariously cool. Whole property is interesting, indoor/outdoor pool, public hot tub, free HOT home made breakfast. $200, legit worth every penny.

My fiance and I stayed in one of…read morethe tranquility rooms for two nights over spring break and I'm really happy we didn't stay any longer. The staff was very friendly, but our visit started off on a concerning note. When we were checking in, the gentleman at the front desk told me that the pool had failed inspection and that there would be another inspection the next day, so hopefully it would be open that afternoon the next day. Already gross if you can't pass inspection and a bad first impression. When we walked down to our room, there were empty Amazon boxes littering common areas. This place could be featured on hotel hell if it was still running/producing seasons. I was really disappointed with our room. I absolutely LOVE the idea of themed rooms, but ours clearly hadn't been serviced in a long time. It smelled horribly musty, the bed was so thin and uncomfortable that we could feel the wood frame underneath, and the bathroom was gross. My back was really sore in the morning, and it was not a good way to start off a day of hiking. The wallpaper was all peeling and it's clear this room hasn't really been updated in a while. We didn't feel comfortable touching the carpet so we wore our crocs the whole time we were there. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The arm of my chair also broke off as I was trying to pull it into the table. The biscuits and gravy were very cafeteria like and I didn't even want to touch the eggs because they came in the weird shaped circles like the kind you get from McDonald's. My stomach felt really bad after eating breakfast both times so l don't recommend eating breakfast, even if it is included. I lived in a dorm for three years at school, so I'm pretty used to less than ideal conditions, but this even grossed me out. It's clear this place has a lot of really cool history, but it reached its peak a long time ago and I'm sad I wasn't able to see it in its prime. I would've loved to come back, but not for $180 dollars a night. Taxes and fees came to nearly $100, so for two nights and three days we payed $464. 400+ dollars and we didn't even feel comfortable taking our shoes off? Not worth it. As much as I love the themed suite ideas, don't waste your money to get terrible food and dirty rundown rooms.

They were good at filling the toilet paper. We had a two room suite, which was huge but it lacked warmth. There was plenty of closet and drawer space. There was a sofa bed and normally you get a couple of extra pillows and a blanket. Nope. Room was clean and smelled fresh. Bathroom was very clean, especially the tub. The bathroom mirror rocked! Breakfast was not lousy tasting but basically meh. Donuts were mini chocolate hostess ones and only 3 or 4 in the container. Muffins were mini ones as well and again just a few. Sausage was nuked brown and serve that were super pale. Eggs were decent as were the bagels. English muffins were tiny and they had regular sliced bread. I was suspect of the cream cheese not kept on ice or at least cool. A few sad envelopes of oatmeal. I was reminded of early hotel breakfast days. Just felt sad.... I went to get a yogurt out of the fridge and there were only two in there. How about more? And why not some nice danish? An actual full sized donut? As for the fruit, just a couple of bananas and apples.. again, they seemed to do just enough to get by. We ate there twice and then skipped out to Country Kitchen for breakfast. Honestly, just okay. I appreciated the cleanliness but it felt closer to a Super 8 vs a Best Western.

When I first saw the listing with the excellent reviews and history of the house I felt this would be a fun place to stay. After spending the four nights my initial feeling was right on. This was the perfect place for our family to stay. Kathy greeted us when we arrived and helped us figure out where to have dinner that first night. We stayed in rooms 10 and 11. Those rooms have their own private bath and are on the second floor. It was as though we had a family apartment. The adults room had a king sized bed and the children shared a queen. Their room had a scavenger hunt within the stone walls, which they really enjoyed. After dinner the boys played table tennis and pop shots basketball. Kathy also treated them to an ice cream cone. Very sweet. There were also plenty of board games to play in the evenings. Breakfast was yummy and coffee aplenty! They do offer WiFi, but no screens, so it is easy to bond with your family and have some quality time together. This location was within walking distance to the swimming pool/park and Pendarvis (which is still closed). It is about a half an hour drive to House on the Rock, Cave of the Mounds, and Taliesin. Lots of fun side stops on the way to any of these places. Kathy is an awesome cook. We feel so fortunate to have met her, Dan, and Bobby Jo on our trip. The room is small but adequate for two people. It is nicely decorated and had a small reading nook. There is a small private balcony. The muffins provided for breakfast were yummy! We only had a couple of issues. The first was that the bathroom sink is located inside the room. I'm sure this was necessary due to the limitations of restoring a building this age. Our main complaint was the loud music that was played in the afternoon. I am not sure if this is a regular thing or just rude guests, but it was loud enough we could not rest after our long drive. If this was just rude guests, I can put it down to "people are people." If this was, however, a regular afternoon thing for the Inn, I would suggest the music be turned down or that guests booking Room 1810 be forewarned. All that being said - we think the Inn is a great asset to Mineral Point.

When we brought this to the attention of the staff, we were told it's been raining a lot recently... sure, but inside the hotel room?! They had windows open at the end of the hallway which may not be the best idea if this place is already prone to being damp... we also had a box on the table in the room which ended up with water damage on it when we packed up. The shower water pressure wasn't great but the bed was decent. The breakfast was okay and they had a variety of options, which we appreciated. However, at the end of the day, we didn't feel comfortable in our room and leaving anything on the floor (or even the table apparently). The cottage was once a summer kitchen, and sits a stone's throw from the main house. Both buildings are of the same stonework style that Mineral Point is famous for. The cottage sports two bedrooms, a family room, and a small bath. The plumbing is all modern, with great water temp and pressure, as well as central air conditioning. There is a microwave, a small fridge, and a coffee machine. Several interesting books and knick-knacks line the shelves, and the main bedroom has a cute little shelf of chocolates. Out back is a little garden and beyond that is the Cabin at Cothren. Both have exclusive parking with direct access to the road. The reservation process was great. We booked online, then the owner (who is very pleasant and sociable) contacted us to arrange payment. She processed our credit card through Paypal. A very easy transaction. Our only comment is that we would have liked to have had a little history of this particular property in a printed form, but I'm certain our hostess would have been more than happy to tell us if we had asked. (I later discovered that there is some historical info on their website.) It should be noted that the whole town rolls up their sidewalks pretty early, so plan ahead if you want to eat out locally. Also, note that although Yelp lists this as a bed and breakfast, it is not.

(Well, unless you're like me and don't mind a cheap place sometimes.) Check-in was quick, which I appreciated because I was off to see a play at APT and the play started only about 40 minutes after I got here. I did get it on Expedia, so that may have helped the check-in move along quickly. Rooms have a microwave and larger mini fridge than I was expecting. That's helpful because I bought some water and filled the fridge. Also nice to be able to have popcorn as a snack (I bought the popcorn at Walmart; it's not provided). They have the standard coffee maker in the room too, if that's your thing. The rooms smelled a bit musty which was unfortunate. No way to open the window, either, as they had a piece of wood jammed in the window frame. Helpful for safety reasons but not for airing out the room. The room was clean, but... what's with them using sheets that aren't big enough for the bed? The sheet on the bed was clinging precariously before I even got in, and both nights it was off the corners because it barely fit. The parking lot was ample. The side door lock wasn't working... it said you were required to use your key card for entry, but I didn't need to use it in the evening or afternoon. Just remember to lock your doors, of course! Update: This is why I shouldn't write a review before I'm done. The day after checking in, I left the Do Not Disturb placard on the door. The second day, I removed it when leaving so that the garbage would be removed and asked left a note with the tip asking if they could leave an extra blanket. I left between 8:50-9 am, and upon return around 5:15, found they never came in to clean.
