Third time there from two hours away and it was again AMAZING! Had the filet special and one of the best steaks I've ever had. Husband's chicken special looked fantastic as well, too full to try it. Wine, coffee, tiramisu all made a wonderful meal. We even brought an extra meal home for tomorrow. Server, Brian, was helpful, friendly, and kept my wine glass full. This is the second time I have been here. Went this time with a party of 6. We drove over an hour for the food and entertainment. You will not be disappointed with either! Everyone at the table said their food was really good quality. I wanted to try the chicken spiedini,, but am in love with the pasta tutto mare (the lighter version) currently. They have live music, and we went to specifically hear the group playing that night. Because our group was larger, we could not sit in the bar area. The restaurant acoustics are loud, and while we could hear each other talk at the table, we could not really hear the music/entertainers. However, after dinner we were able to find seats in the bar and enjoy the music. This is a family owned restaurant with good food, good service, and really good entertainment. Just had dinner at your place and the food was great. Unfortunately we had a problem with the bill, didn't realize till it was too late. My wife ordered Chicken Spiedini Lunch - without Provel Cheese (which we hate) and replace with Mozzarella $4.50 EXTRA for that! I ordered Spaghetti with Salsiccia and asked for Penne pasta vs Spaghetti - $4.00 EXTRA for that! If you make your dishes from scratch - substituting one cheese for another or one type of common pasta for another - should be no big deal. We have never been charged for substitutions like this anywhere we have eaten. We looked on the menu when we got home and nowhere does it state substitutions are charged EXTRA! Well it started.with calling to make reservations and being told that we would not need them. We showed at the time we had planned on eating and the place was packed. So behind the seen management is terrible. The food was so so with small portions and high prices. The view outside the place is of the new Wentzville slums. This was a good place to go but service and quality have gone down hill. I had the veil which was thin as leather. My wife had one of their specials which was a steak with cheese poured over it. The food here is great! The prices are affordable and the staff is fantastic...BUT, the music in the bar competes with the opposing music in the restaurant area and is nothing but noise!!! When we asked if they could turn one or the other down, we were told it was at the volume set per management. This made for a VERY unpleasant dining experience. This was my first time at donatellis and I was not disappointed! We were sat almost immediately and our server was absolutely amazing and offered us cheesecake when we told her we were celebrating. I got the house salad and spaghetti with marinara. Both were so delicious. I got the cracked black pepper and parm cheese on top and it gave it the perfect little kick and was just so good! Dropped in for a quick lunch Saturday in between shopping. Ordered the chicken spedini salad, a favorite. It's always cold, crisp and fresh, with the perfect dressing, cheese and the best chicken spedini served hot on top. We live near here and have eaten in, done carry out and have ordered catering many times. It's a family neighborhood favorite and a gathering place for many of our special times. read more

The food was phenomenal! You can tell it's made from scratch. We went for my friend's birthday and between the three of us got Sicilian Pasta (added shrimp), Seafood Diavolo, and Chicken Donatelli, along with an appetizer of calamari. All were delicious! The staff experience was not as great as the food- because the tables were so close together, the servers for other tables were holding dish trays above our heads while serving others. The busser also dropped a dirty fork and napkin on my lap (from another table) while leaning to pick up a dish from our table. Even so, we understand things happen. The food and environment definitely made up for the mishaps! I recommend Donatelli's for all Italian lovers, especially those who haven't been! read more

My family gave me a birthday party there. Everyone enjoyed there food and the service was excellent.

I would give this a zero if I could. $77 worth of food down the garbage. Food was inedible and covered in cheese. The salad had so much cheese there was no saving it. It was absolutely disgusting. We phoned in our order, they repeated it four times and yet it was still wrong when we unpacked it at home. We will not eat here again. Very disappointing. read more

Donatelli's did a fantastic job with a group dinner for about 50 people. We were part of the guests celebrating a birthday. A selection of appetizers was perfect. The host provided several menu options plus a pasta side and salad. Guests remarked on the high quality of the chicken, beef medallions, and tilapia entrees. House salads weren't overdressed with dressings, and the red and white sauces for pasta were satisfactory. The red sauce seemed a little overly sweet to me. However, the service provided by six servers was exceptional. They were present in refilling drink glasses, delivering foods, and whisking away dishes without being intrusive. With a full restaurant and such a large group some lapse in service or kitchen support would not have been surprising. Donatelli's had no noticeable miscues and delivered a wonderful experience. read more

Ouch, such a disappointment. My husband and I have eaten at Donatelli's a few times. So, to celebrate my birthday I decided I wanted to eat at a nice Italian restaurant with good food close to home. It was last Friday evening and it was quite busy. Our server was very sweet, but seemed to be overwhelmed and under trained for this caliber of restaurant. It took quite a while for us to receive our main dish. So long that we finished our bottle of wine. We never were asked if we wanted more bread or beverages nor was my husband's water refilled. When it finally arrived my husband's was piping hot and my was barely warm. The waitress took mine back to heat, so my husband ate solo while I waited. My husband had the carbonara - it was terrible, not even close to authentic carbonara. It was heavily bathed in a cream sauce. I had a pasta seafood dish also extremely bathed in a cream sauce. The server did bring me a complimentary cheese cake for my birthday. It was delicious and very much appreciated! But...we ate the cheese cake with dirty plates, empty glasses and empty bread basket surrounding it on a small table. We get much better service and food at lower priced and lower atmosphere restaurants. I don't want our experience to be a reflection of the server. I thought it was a reflection of the management. I felt the server needed backup help with table maintenance. She was doing her best to keep up with all her tables. We made the most out of the evening but as we walked out we discussed how much of a disappointment. read more

Short review: Waste of money, terrible food quality, negligent staff, over serving bar, bad smell Long review: Got pickup the other night bc I was craving any type of Italian and I'm not picky. They had plenty of time before I came to get my order (they gave a 35 min est and I arrived at 1 hr mark) and upon arrival I was directed to the bar which wasn't a problem. But 4 bartenders were standing and talking in a circle and ignored me for 10 minutes. They weren't servicing anyone either. Once someone asked me what I needed it took an additional 10-15 mins to actually bring the food out. I get people want to enjoy their time and music but the music was so loud and so many people were drunkenly screaming songs I couldn't even ask the bartenders for assistance with my order while I was standing there. The atmosphere was atrocious and the amount of people there that you could smell the alcohol off of was concerning I figured none of that would matter if the food was decent, but it wasn't so here I am writing this review. Donatellis has been great in the past but we had a very bad experience. I had reservations for 7 pm but didn't get sat till 8:00 pm. On top of that there was no hospitality whatsoever, no discounts, no apologies, the owner knew about this situation but didn't seem to make any effort to make it up to us. I held this place in high regard but after this experience I won't be returning as I can see they don't value the customers. read more

One of the best Italian restaurants I have eaten in St. Louis. Better than the Hill as far as we are concerned. The pasta dishes are out of sight . They have daily specials also. We found it important to make reservations as they are busy at dinner times. Don't pass this place up. read more

Update for the Owner - We did let the waiter know hence we received the salad dressing on the side and was told you had a new chef. We did try again because of location and we really wanted to like it because of location... it was terrible. We had the manicotti with meat sauce and the tortellini donatelli. I like this place! A lot! The place is low key and low vibes. It is kept very neat and easy to get too located right off of N. The service was fantastic and the food was good enough to write home about! I had the chicken spiedini which I thought was alright but a bit drier than I am use to. Everyone else loved their food though so this was an easy 4 star review. They had a decent wine list which my parents really enjoyed. The menu was neat and easy to read! DO NOT GO HERE especially if you have food allergies or sensitivities!! My long story: Having Celiac, I confirmed with the server before ordering that I am Gluten-Free to see what I can have on their menu. After checking with the chef, she told me that they would be able to make their Beef Sotto gluten free for me and they will have a side of GF pasta. When my entree comes out I notice that the beef is breaded in a thick sauce (doesn't seem GF) and the pasta appeared to be regular pasta. When I brought this up to the server she responded with "I think the beef is just fried but let me check.. but the pasta is Gluten because it has a rose sauce". When I asked her to double check the pasta, as I am extremely allergic, she kept reassuring me that it is mine because of the rose sauce. I stupidly ate half of the side of pasta as I waited for her to come back to inform me that the steak was not GF but kept assuring me that the pasta is. If you've ever had GF pasta you know there is a HUGE difference in texture but stupidly I trusted the server. By the end of the meal I was super sick. Nobody ever came to check if everything was okay, the server apologized but given the fact that this is a stated allergy, one would think there should have been some sort of care? We were part of a party of 10 tonight. We reserved a table near the entrance as one of the people in our group uses a walker. We were placed in a back dining room through a doorway that was the maximum distance from the door that one could be seated. The tables were placed together to accommodate our group in the most limited way possible. The management even commented that they would have given us another table in the row for our party but they were all reserved. Our service was fine and everyone received what they ordered. There was nothing special about the food, it was adequate. Two of us ordered the calamari appetizer. I have never seen it prepared in strips looking like a French fry. It had very little flavor. We enjoyed dinner with friends, table of 10, on Saturday evening at 6, and dinner was delicious. My boyfriend had Cannelloni Rosso, and I had the house salad with Chicken Spiedini. Both of them where absolutely delicious. The wine and espresso martini were also delicious. Our waiter was excellent. He was young but did such a great job!
