Skylark Lounge is still a great spot to check out live music & we recently saw The Reverent Few band and Brian Scartocci perform on 09/21/2024 ( see the videos included in this review of the live action!) For those who have never been to Skylark before here are a few highlights - This venue does have several tables & booths inside however, it isn't very big inside so I would definitely recommend you get there a bit earlier to grab a table. Getting to downtown on that area is just getting harder with construction and difficulty to find good available parking. The homeless are scattered in that area as well. However, thankfully the show was early in the day and the place made it to be enjoyable at least inside you transfer to the world of music. I didn't stay long to have experience any service, but I did see staff being attentive and ready to clean up tables. The place looks clean and well kept. The darker atmosphere makes it very relaxing and intimate.

Performances range from jazz and swing to Latin influenced sets and special themed nights, featuring both local and touring musicians. They do traditional jazz, which is, itself, very fun music. This band brings it on to the max! They played our wedding and it was outrageously fun. I highly recommend them as a wedding band. They're great musicians, really fun, professional, and nice people you'd actually want to have at your wedding. And in addition to that, as a huge bonus, they do traditional jazz which is a kind of music that people of all ages really enjoy.

Sure, he's not a great musician, but that's not the point- it's his tenacity and willingness to stick with the bass. Sure, other people might try to get him to take up the banjo, fiddle or accordion, but he loves his bass. He is the bass master. He puts on a whole performance and everything. Sunday, 5-31-2026: We were visiting the quaint little town of Gruene (pronounced "Green"). It's…read morevery historic. At one time cotton was grown here until a boll weevil infestation wiped out the crops. Anyhow, I could hear live music emanating from this dance hall. Some of our family entered the hall because they needed to use the restrooms. We waited while listening to some good, live country music. I could see it was a very relaxed, casual, & family oriented gathering place. Then I found out this dance hall is one of the oldest in Texas! My husband and his family have fond memories of being at dance halls. This was so interesting to me because it's such a different culture from mine. We didn't have dance halls in the Philippines or California. There is a bar you pass by to get beer and other spirits. I don't as told that locals & visitors will leisurely hang out here.
