PSA to other budget photographers. Do not buy used lenses from Dons Photo in Regina. September 2023 I purchased a used Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens for $850. All was good, or so I thought. I wanted to upgrade to a new lens so I went to Dons yesterday to trade in the Sigma to get some $$ taken off the cost of the new lens. I set the Sigma lens on the counter and the guy tells me, "ahhh I think I can only give you 50-100 bucks for this lens" You should have seen his face when I said "Excuse me, I just paid $850 for this last year" He replies with "You paid $850 for this? In a tone that meant I shouldn't have paid that much for it. The funny thing is, HE is the one who sold it to me last year. I was expecting like $300-$400, but $50-$100??? You have got to be kidding me. That's a slap in my face. You can't tell me that the tech changes that fast, when the lens is already 10 years old. This means you f*@ked up and sold it for more then you should have. I would like to know how much they low balled the poor guy that brought in the lens before me. My guess is, they gave him 3-400 and they listed it for 850. How much would they have turned around and sold it for if I took the pennies they were offering to me?? Shop local they say. read more

One of the only real camera stores in Regina, Don's has a big city inventory, and can order in from sister stores or the manufacturer. A big selection and good advice is available for novices and pros alike. Don's will sell second hand items on commission, and it's worth checking their lenses and bodies, especially if you are looking for a film camera. You can check out the big box stores, but most of the 'sale' prices aren't any better. And the before and after sales service is worth any price differential you may find. Varied inventory includes film, digital, video cameras (most or all major brands), lenses, binoculars, memory cards, camera bags, tripods, flashes, lighting systems/umbrellas, printers, paper, film, chemicals, paper, darkroom equipment, books, frames, colour-matching gadgets for monitors and printers, and a whole lot more. There's also in-store and online ordering of equipment, prints, photo books and other personalized photo jobs. The core staff have been serving new photographers, seasoned amateurs and professionals in an around Regina since the late 1980s. They're only open one night (Thursdays), and are closed Sundays. Today they were unwilling and uncooperative towards price matching a rather inexpensive memory card to a local competitor. If I'm in desperate need of gear I may return however Dons photo will no longer be my first choice in Winnipeg. read more

They only check availability after you have ordered and paid, then give you the option to either refund or make a special order to the manufacturer. The only reason I went with don's in the first place was because they were the only ones that had the product "available" in their website. First and last time. read more

I dont usually give bad reviews, but this was simply an unacceptable experience. I agree with Shawn above who had complaints about the rude staff. I went in to check out their used lenses, and after the sales person chuckling at me, rolling his eyes and trying to sell me a new digital lens, ( he never did answer my questions) I didnt see any point in giving this store any more business. Im not sure if this employee was new, but management should really be reading these reviews and realizing they are losing business, and respect. The employee seemed too good to help me, like he just couldnt be bothered. Plus, take a look at their prices, then check online what other retailers sell the same item for. This place is seemingly unaware that people shop online now, and Dons cant just charge whatever they want. People have a choice now, and due to the ridiculous pricing, and the horrible staff, I will not be going back. read more
