Visited on our way from FL to Indiana. Delicious! It's now called Big John's BBQ & Donuts. My family all got donuts and the adults got iced coffee (available in regular with cream, vanilla cream or Carmel cream). The bear claws were huge, delicious and had apple pie filling in them! Long John's had custard in them and sprinkle donuts were yummy and significant. Everyone in the car declared them the best donuts ever. Clean single bathroom. Ice cream available too. What this place may lack in curb appeal, it is made up with the amazing donuts and BBQ they serve. Their homemade donuts are to die for and well worth the stop if you are anywhere near here. We initially stopped for a quick lunch for the pulled pork BBQ sandwiches but you couldn't help but notice the assortment of beautiful donuts behind the glass. Just to drive the message about the amazing donuts further, they offered a donut of your choosing as a side to your BBQ combo. Understand that these donuts are not trying to compete with Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts, because they do not have to, because they are light years better. I can remember paying $50 for a dozen of 5 Daughters donuts in Nashville TN, and being amazed at how good they were, but seriously, these were as good if not better for the same price you pay for Krispy Kreme. The donuts are yummy! We bought a dozen and were going to freeze some for our travels but don't think there will be any left to freeze to take with us! The Only reason I gave 4 stars is because the prices were not easily displayed. I finally found a sheet of paper with small print posted on the side of the cabinet and it was confusing. You had me at homemade donuts and BBQ. Didn't come at the right time for BBQ, but my husband and I went 3 nights in a row for the donuts. Ate more than I should each time. If you go I'm the evening, you get to witness the donut makers doing their thing. There are so few places where you can see your food being prepared right in front of you. The crew every night we visited didn't seemed to be tired of donuts or their job. Nice people with a great product will have no trouble staying in business. Do you like doughnuts? Who would say no? Not sure but the doughnuts here are fresh, flavorful and just what the doctor ordered. This is a small hole in the wall that is not only cheap but probably has the best doughnuts in the panhandle of Florida. Not to mention, it is right off the highway so it is not inconvenient. They have a great maple bacon doughnut with fresh thick bacon smothered on it. Yes I said bacon and yes you will love it no matter what your initial reservations may be. On an early Friday morning drive to the beach, we decided to stop for a freshly baked doughnut in Bonifay. We were also interested in a shop that serves both doughnuts and BBQ. We were pleasantly surprised!!! My mother got the Holland cream filled doughnut and said it was the best she had ever had! I decided to try a red velvet doughnut for the first time and was blown away. For a cakey doughnut, it was still moist and delicious and not overly sweet. The staff was kind and helpful.
