I have a 13 year old who rents an instrument and when we first went it, they treated my child like an adult and answered every possible question you couldn't imagine related to playing the clarinet, guitar, or singing emo punk music. Writing to reassert my previous five-star rating for Doo-Wop Shop. The service and equipment are great and at a great price. I needed two speakers for a recent event, with a mic and cord to connect my laptop. Isaac fixed me up fast, and I was out the door with my week-long rental in about 15 minutes. He took the time to show me how it goes together and how to connect the two speakers together. And while I was there, I also noticed that Doo-Wop Shop has smoke machines, disco balls, bubble machines and other lighting to take an event to the next level. Well, this place just lost my business. There was one other customer when I arrived and three employees were there. No one asked me if I needed any help until several minutes later after I got somebody's attention and then they acted like they didn't have time to be bothered with me. I can only figure that issues were sexism, ageism, homophobia or classism. I was wearing my painters whites and that can often make a difference in the quality of service. I'll be leaving a yelp review for that too. BTW, a Beautiful young woman walked in and all three of the guys were clamoring to help her. at that point, The employees made it very clear what their priorities were, so I left and I won't be going back. Karaoke Upgrade! I was given the challenge of finding a sound system for 175 people in a basket ball court size room in less then two weeks. When I started asking around everyone quickly pointed me toward the Doo Wop Shop and I now know why. I contacted a couple locations and both had all the equipment I needed. The store does offer setup and delivery, but it costs around $75 and they need about a weeks heads up. I walked into this location and was greeted by all the employees. Since I am pretty clueless when it comes to sound systems and operating them I was a little anxious. The staff asked a few questions about what I needed and the volume I would be needing. There was some sound equipment terms thrown around and one of the workers was off. As the one employee was pulling my order the other got my personal information to reserve the equipment. You will need a photo ID and 3 references. If you pay cash, there is an additional $20 deposit. However, you must have an active credit card to reserve the equipment. I was pretty worried about getting feedback and not being able to correct it, so the store manager gave me a feedback 101 class. This was a company sponsored event so I wasn't worrying to much about cost, but I got two speakers, two speaker stands, a microphone, a microphone stand, and a Iphone jack for $50!! Plus they said I had the rental for a whole week! The customer service continued as they loaded everything up on a dolly and placed it into my car for me. All the equipment fit in my car and was easy to setup and take down. I will definitely be coming back! read more

Rented 2k worth of equipment for a show I put on from these guys brought it all back in perfect condition (exact same condition as it was upon renting). I was told to my horror that they could not accept any of the rented equipment back and that I would be charged for everything!.. when asked why the manager in charge told me that HE had forgotten to fill out some of the related paperwork.. I was floored and stormed out. I even talked to the police but they wouldn't do anything. Don't go here unless you want to be robbed. read more

So I thought it would be fun to rent a guitar while we have time at home. My husband and I walked to our neighborhood small business doo-wop shop to rent a guitar. I didn't have my drivers license because it was in my pack that I went fishing in yesterday but we gave them all of my information including where I work as a teacher my husbands information where he works at corporate McDonald's his drivers license and two credit cards and they still couldn't figure out how to rent us a guitar that only cost a little over $100. I guess the shut down tonight at 8 o'clock won't affect them I can't imagine how long it would take to drive-through or walk up so my advice don't bother with these people. Doo-Wop Shop is located in the Highlands on the popular Bardstown Road area. Because of the amount of times I had driven by this place and because the nifty name of the business drew me in, I knew I had to visit this place when my daughter mentioned she wanted to learn the guitar. My experience at the Doo-Wop Shop consists of both renting a guitar and buying accessories to go with it. I was surprised at how big the shop was as it was bigger than the impression you get from the outside. I entered the shop and saw every square inch of the place neatly filled with every musical instrument you would want. Seeing all the curves from the Cello, the guitars, and the shiny chrome on the drum sets made me wish I had learned to play an instrument. The place is a band member's heaven and a dream shop for people like myself. The place was busy with people checking out various equipment and talking to the staff at the counter but the staff still found a second to greet me and tell me that someone would be with me shortly. There was about 6 people working the floor or counter and everyone of them was busy so it tells you how many people visit this shop. Just about 5 minutes after I entered someone approached me to help and the wonderful service I received is a big part in why I am reviewing this place 5 stars. I told the person I was looking for a guitar for my daughter and he pointed me to the 3/4 size guitars. The person helping me made me feel like I was the only person in the store; he didn't try to rush me and made sure I was happy with the size and color of the guitar chosen and walked me through each accessory I might need with the guitar. I opted to rent a guitar as I didn't want to invest in a guitar only to have my daughter not stick with it. I was told the price of the rental and I was pleasantly surprised at how low the cost was; I believe it was $8 for the entire month. And this isn't one of those toy guitars you find at Target; no-this was a Fender. The rental process was quick and easy too! Whether it's Karaoke equipment, or music lesson books you need, or if you want to unleash your inner rock star and rent some equipment for a month, this place is bound to have something that will make you happy. Went here to try and rent 3 57s & a 52a. Just moved to town from LA, due to corona. Currently staying with my mom in Louisville. Gave them my ID, moms address, employers info & 2 contacts, as well as my debit card, all of which they copied. They then refused to rent me anything because I have a California ID. Said I could provide an amazon order to show I live here. I did so. Then they told me I could just skip town with the $400 worth of mics I was renting so they can't take the risk. Offered to pay a deposit on the mics, they said that's not how they work and gave me a spiel about affirmative action or some BS. There HAS to be a better option in Louisville. I'll be going to Guitar Center, buying the mics, & providing them with a receipt so they can see exactly how much regular money they missed out on today. The Wednesday before Memorial Day Weekend I rushed into the Doo-Wop Shop on Bardstown to obtain a karaoke machine for a weekend of camping! The poor guy who initially attended to me while I was on my lunch break had to deal with me in my pregnant-and-hungry and needing-to-get-back-to-work state. He handled my hurried self very well. Note to readers: If you are going in to rent a karaoke machine please allow for more than 20 minutes of time at the Doo-Wop Shop... as you will need to maybe pick out some extra karaoke cd's, fill out paperwork and the employee helping you will have to test the karaoke machine. I eventually rushed back to work with only the karaoke discs. I told the Doo-Wop shop peeps that I'd be back after work at 5pm to pick up the karaoke machine ('cause they had to test the thing to make sure it was in working order).... but, when I got back, they had just rented out the last karaoke machine!! I was like "What sucka?!!!?" The machine I said I was going to come back and rent was gone! ... but the super-cool long-haired dude helping me out this time didn't bat an eye. He opened up a new karaoke machine (I think that it was for sale) and proceeded to test it out for me. The guy was totally friendly and hilarious, and made the whole rental process really easy, and when I dropped the rental off a week later long-haired-guy** made it a point to ask how it worked for me and wished me a great day! I will definitely go back to that place again! I love those peeps! The karaoke set-up was not at all expensive and you get to keep it for a whole week of fun. Doo-Wop Shop = magical! I'm constantly impressed by the breadth of what they offer for rental, the cheap prices and the friendly service. I rented a karaoke machine here once and discovered at home that it did not work properly. They not only gave me a new one, but they comped it and gave me credit for my next rental. Anything musical you want, they have it, and you'd be silly to pay a DJ for an event when you can rent all the equipment yourself for so, so much cheaper here. read more

I've been to the Doo Wop shop multiple times. It's a decent place. The service is pretty good and they have a nice selection. The only downside is tight parking and that a lot of the guitars you pick up to try out will be out of tune or tuned super low because of the Louisville hipsters. read more

Really cool place in the heart of the highlands. Although most shops on bardstown rarely someone ever greets you when you come in, I immediately felt welcome at this place. Nonetheless, I felt that I was informed very well about the product I was purchasing. Downsides however, is the tight parking entrance located in a small alleyway. Its really easy to drive by it as I did a couple of times but when you go through you can see that its really spacious inside despite what it looks like from the outside. read more

I have been renting from the Doo-Wop Shop for over a year now as my 8th grader is in band at his local school. I fell behind on two payments and I received two threatening messages from this company to take me to court over $40.00. I also have made attempts to reach out to the company about pricing certain items that were misplaced in order to pay for them when I return the instrument within the next thirty days. I went as far as reaching out through facebook and noticed my message was seen and not responded to. This is very unprofessional. Poor customer service!!! Your company have no issue calling about your payments yet every time I call a young man picks up the phone named Chris and state I have the wrong number. My bill is current as of today and I will be returning the merchandise ASAP nor will I recommend this music gallery to anyone due to the level of unprofessionalism. read more

Rented a viola for my daughter. Her first time playing an instrument. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. Rental rates are great, lower than any of the other places I have checked. All that is covered by the rental fee is awesome! They have been great to work with. Don't rent from this company, it seems they are a rental company in the business of not renting instruments.Here is my circumstance. I paid them for an online rental and the email and acct said its all paid thanks, giving an impression that all is done and the guitar is on the way to be deliverd so i waited a week and nothing came so I sent an email To them and they said oh you need to pay an additional $15 and do let us know to send you an invoice , I sent to them saying send invoice as more time lapsed they said we sent an invoice ,probably to a different email purposely to delay the time .The account has no new invoice but just an old first invoice.perhaps they have not sent anything at all. all this is just to delay and annoy me so I would just say refund me my money I wish that there was some other guitar rental online that would compete with this company via prices and would actually rent the instrument to you, instead of making you walk away from renting by providing the most horrible careless service. the doo wop motto is " It's basically I have to rent but choose not to rent by giving you the most step by step service of carelessness and excuses to be more careless ." read more

Rude staff. I walked in to rent a violin. Two guys greeted me then walked off without seeing if I needed help. Finally, someone else helped me, but did not explain options for types of violins at all. Just handed me a piece of paper and told me to fill it out while he got the violin.
