    Picking fruit

I loved this place! The workers were so incredibly friendly. They trained us very well to go out and pick without harming the trees. It was such a great family activity and the drive from Bradenton was really nice. We bought so many things at the farmers market: raw honey, elderberry syrup and fresh orange juice. We picked Honeybell oranges and grapefruit. They are delicious. Highly recommend!

One of my favorite family traditions each year is honeybells picking at Dooley Groves!

The real mark of the new year is honeybell picking season. My family and I visit Dooley Groves every year on New Year's Day to pick honeybells right off the trees, and the citrus is so incredibly fragrant, juicy and delicious this year. Definitely the best crop I've seen in several new year's visits. Head over this week and experience the u-pick fun for yourself! Pick as many or as few as you like for $2.89/lb. The team there is so friendly and will tell you where to go and what to do to pick the ripest honeybells. Insider tip: The longer stick/basket is a lot of fun to use and will help you reach the super orange fruit which is usually higher up!

Who doesn't love citrus season? (Nov-April) I'm personally very fond of citrus and Dooley Groves alike! I really enjoy how juicy and sweet the citrus I've purchased there is. I got to try their Pink Pomelo, where the grapefruit originally came from and I must go back to get some more soon. I also purchased some Tangerines (two varieties, one smaller than the other). I had 0 complaints from any of the purchased fruit. My whole family really liked them too. So while it can be a bit pricey, I feel you still get a bang for your buck.

Very nice staff in the store. We should have called before going because when we arrived we were told that we couldn't pick until after Christmas since they picked the weekend before. We purchased sugar belles and navels. I had high hopes for the sugar belles but they were not sweet and pretty dry. We also purchased a salad dressing and some orange marmalade. I felt it was pricey and usually I'm all for buying from local businesses but unfortunately Dooley was a disappointment.

Okay I'm so happy this place is so close to where we live and that I found out about it. I love me some u-pick whatever. They recently opened their upick last weekend and I absolutely had to check it out. I'm glad I did. The market up front was adorable and they had a nice variety of products to choose from. But we were there specifically to experience picking our own fruit. The workers were very friendly too! They give a little briefing prior to you going to the where the citrus plant are. You pay by the pound so I suggest picking a larger bucket just in case you end up wanting to get more. We had fun sifting through the rows of oranges and grapefruits. I do agree that it's smart to bring bug spray and/or wear pants and long sleeves. This was such a great activity for families or even another cute date idea.

What a fun place to visit while in the Tampa area! We were able to choose from many varieties of oranges and grapefruit. The staff were super friendly and helped me to choose the variety best for me.

I haven't been here in just over three years. And now that it's January, it's time for local Orange picking and strawberries. That is so music to my ears and my palette. I did the u pick already. It's fun, but I didn't feel like picking. I just wanted to buy them. You can do both here. When we went it was packed, but that's because people were coming for their u pick time. Once they did their thing, it wasn't so crowded. They have different sizes. 2.99 per pound, a small bag for $15 and a large bag already filled for $25. THats for Honey bell oranges. There are also other varieties of citrus and pomelos which are so good. They are $1.99 per pound. Those can be heavy so I just bought one. Inside they have Florida goodies - jellies, sauces, dressings. They have a fridge section with orange and grapefruit juice and cheese amongst other things. They also Florida souvenirs. They use to have samples of citrus, but not anymore. This place is cute and fun and super Florida. Love it. Came home with Honeybell marmalade, about 12 Honeybell oranges, fresh squeezed Orange juice, and a pomelo. I love this place! It does definitely feel way out there, but it is worth it!

    Orange you glad you stopped?

Even though technology (Facebook ad) led me here, Dooley is quaint, cute, old-school Florida... made even more delightful by its remote and quiet location. You have to be looking for this place-you can't "just fall in." But again-the hunt makes it even more fun. Now, full transparency: I messed up. I wore the wrong shoes-like impossibly bad, wrong, hopeless shoes. Sooo,, I didn't get to go on the grove tour and pick from the trees as planned (suede'esque shoes on a muddy day-that wasn't going to work). I can't wait to plan better and have another go at the tour. But you know, the gift shop is great. There all sorts of fun, Florida treats in there. It's classic. You can bag up fruit from the trees, too. They're in big bins up front. Fabulous. Can't wait to go back and get back into the grove groove. Oh! It was busy on a Saturday afternoon and there's not tons of parking, but I just took one loop around and a space opened up.

Friendly & helpful staff. Explained how to pick the fruit the right way & gave us a long stick type thing + shears to get the job done right. Perfect place for a day date or an excuse to get out of the house. We'll definitely be back!

**It's Honeybell season!**. These delicious oranges will only be available in January until they are gone. You can pick them daily from 10 - 4 If you love fresh picked oranges this is the place for you! At Dooley Groves you will find deliciously sweet oranges as well and the sweetest staff!! When you arrive you have a choice to pick your own or purchase what they have already picked. We always choose to pick our own. If that's your choice you fill out a card and then go out to the grove. They take a small group out about every 30 minutes. They will take your group, explain the rules, and show you the different size baskets that you can choose to fill. They will give you a pair of cutters and bring you to the orange grove. They will show you which area is the best picking and off you go. There is no time limit, they just request that anything you cut you purchase. When you are done you walk back and they will weigh and bag your purchase. Our purchase was $27 for approximately 12 - 13lbs While I was walking I noticed that they had a sign for Handicapped people. They had a few rows reserved for picking in a wheelchair or with a walker. This is for Honeybells ONLY! The reason being is that this area is right by the entrance to the grove. If you need a rest they have some chairs at the beginning of each row for you to sit. They also have the most unique gift shop! Honestly, I would even go just for the gift shop! They sell all kinds of jellies, honey, chocolates, and many, many gift items that you may not see elsewhere! Also, in the gift shop you can arrange to have fruit shipped to loved ones. Parking is available right in front of the shop. I suggest definitely wearing socks and sneakers while walking thru the grove. it wouldn't be a bad idea to sprays your feet and sneakers with bug spray as well because there is a chance you may step on ant hills while walking around the grove.

I loved this place! It wasn't super crowded and the little market/shop that they have is awesome as well! Highly recommend checking it out

This commercial farm is a little off the main roads out in Ruskin. It is certainly worth the trip if you like oranges. You can go out into the orchards and pick several varieties right off the trees. They give you instructions and everything you need. January is Honeybell season. You can pick these most delicious oranges here. There is a large store where you can purchase the fruit without having to do any work. They have fresh squeezed orange juice to buy. The gift shop is large and is loaded with all kinds of merchandise. From everything orange, such as orange jam, to chocolates, relishes, and snacks. You can even arrange to ship their fruit as gifts right in the gift shop. There is a parking lot, but on the weekends you can park along the road because it is very busy. Wear closed shoes that you can get dirty if going out into the orchid.

First timer to Dooley Groves. Dooley employee Bobbie quickly went over guidelines on how to pick and what variety of fruit was available. Was rude and seemed to be bothered she had to explain how to pull or cut fruit. All five of us headed our to groves. Orange tape located rows available for picking. We were there 3/11/2022. Fruit on trees was of very low grade-quality, while fruit you could purchase as their fruit stand was higher grade. Rows between trees had very high grass up to our knees with thistle and tons of fire ants. We completely understand it's a Working farm first....u-pick costumers are not treated as needed to run their business. We read the State of Florida's agriculture laws that the farm is not responsible or liable for injury while on the farm, it's a working farm. There are large holes hidden in the overgrown weeds between rows of trees with Millions of fire ant mounds everywhere. Not a place for elderly or young. I was bitten several times on my legs from fire ants before I even knew it. Tripped in two large hidden holes. My young daughter accidentally cut a flower bloom with an orange and when we took our fruit to be weighed it was laying on top of her orange. Bobbie scolded my daughter and said "These flowers are booms for next year! We will not have this many oranges! You should have never picked this!" It was a small three leaved stem with five blossoms! It was an accident and we were not hiding what had happened! In retrospect, Bobbie should have handled it differently and I could have offered to pay for five oranges we weren't getting! Bad customer service, dangerous conditions at the time we went. Will never return! Not recommend to anyone...ever! Dooley should have a better employee training program and consider u-pickers as customers not just as additions to the running farm!

The farm itself is nice and offers a variety of activities, food stations, and areas to explore, so there's definitely a lot for families to enjoy. However, our experience was disappointing due to inconsistent information and lack of clarity. The website stated the morning of our visit that flower picking was no longer available, which was one of the main reasons we chose to come. Additionally, there was confusion around the BOGO promotion. Members of our group who arrived about 30 minutes earlier were able to purchase and use the deal, but when we arrived, we were told it was only valid on Friday. This was frustrating, as it didn't align with what others in our party experienced that same day, and resulted in us paying more for the same entry. We understand that policies and availability can change, but clearer communication and consistency would make a big difference. With multiple paid options throughout the farm, honoring the promotion or offering some flexibility would have been a good gesture. Overall, it's a nice place with a lot to offer, but the inconsistencies took away from what could have been a great experience

A huge shoutout to Penelope, who took such great care of us during the party. She was incredibly attentive, friendly, and brought such a fun, positive energy the whole time. She made sure everything ran smoothly and helped make the day stress-free for us as parents. We're so grateful for the experience and would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to host a birthday party or family outing. Thank you for helping make my daughter's day so special!
