I had a tooth extracted today by Dr Capodice. He and his staff made sure that I knew how the procedure would proceed. They did their best to keep the atmosphere warm and light. The procedure was completed in slightly less time than he predicted. Very disappointed with Dr. Ocheltree and my daughter's recent visit. First, she was not told her piercings would need to be removed prior to the procedure. With piercings being common, this feels like it should be shared upfront to avoid last minute issues. Second, Dr. Ocheltree was very unprofessional in commenting on a piercing asking "what would possess you to do that". Quite frankly, it's none of his business and should not have to be told to keep his opinions to himself. And the worst part, my daughter disclosed a medication that has known interactions with nsaids. The post-op instructions, only reviewed with me, recommended the use of nsaids. Luckily, I remembered there was a potential issue before giving her an nsaid while she was under the effects of the anesthesia. All that to also note, my daughter is an adult and Dr. Ocheltree should have reviewed her medication list prior to the surgery and advised her on the use of nsaids. Dr. Ocheltree - Consider checking your ego at the door and be better. read more

They charged me $1177, for a procedure that my insurance said that the national average for this procedure is $313, so insurance is only willing to cover 40% of the 'expected price'... One of the few places in town that does these procedures, and they don't work with the major carrier of most people in the town. Even out of network I didn't expect them to charge FOUR TIMES the average price for this procedure. When asked if they'd work with me, they essentially said "you shoulda read the fine print". They knew the insurance company I had, woulda been easy for them ahead of time to say "You'll owe $1000, of this $1177", that did not happen... Unfortunately these guys are not on par with the actual costs, make sure you find a place that is in network. read more

We were told to arrive 15 minutes early for my daughter's wisdom tooth extraction and we have now been waiting an hour and several people who arrived after us for the same procedure have been called back and when I said excuse me, my daughter's appointment was half an hour ago, how much longer can we expect to wait the lady got super defensive and then said we'll this is a surgery center. Very condescending and uncalled for. They won't own the fact that they clearly overlooked us for others that arrived after us. That's not a payment, that's robbery. and during my 30 second visit not once did he say hello or goodbye to me he literally walked in did the work which took five seconds and left. Two because the patient didn't die or have complications following the surgery but don't expect a good bedside manner, especially if you're a parent. Dr. Elger removed wisdom teeth from our 16 year old. But he was very condescending and even argumentative when we explained multiple times that he could not have certain pain medications based on an allergy. Dr. Elger became belligerently insistent that he should receive that medication and said "He's your kid, you should figure this out." Well, we've already figured it out after our other son's heart nearly stopped after taking it. After going on about it for five minutes, he finally prescribed something else but only after asking for the mother's occupation and then saying, "Oh well maybe you do know something about this," as she works in the health field. I'm not sure if that was meant to sound as discriminatory and condescending as it did - but, do avoid this doctor unless you want to be talked down to and potentially have your kid take meds that they'll have an allergic reaction to and end up in the ER. Also, the nurses could feel free to speak up when these guys are being abusive toward patients or their caretakers. I'm sure there are other oral surgeons in the area who can do the bare minimum of a simple tooth extraction WITHOUT all of the attitude. read more

This office made a single case agreement with meridian through the state of IL for me and I had a wonderful experience. Nurse staff was very friendly, even played some music of my choosing to help me relax. Dr.Efaw was very caring and treated me as if I was his own family. You extracted my daughter's wisdom teeth. After her extraction and recovery she moved for the summer to an internship in Western Iowa. She called your post operative nurse on Thursday, May 26 at 9:18 a.m. and Tuesday, May 31 at 12:52 p.m. asking for assistance because she was still in an abnormal amount of pain. On the first instance, the nurse told Amelia that it was dry socket and that, because she was not in town, she couldn't do anything for her. When she called the following Tuesday, she informed Amelia that it wasn't dry socket anymore, and again, they couldn't do anything for her. She continued to take pain medicine regularly, but received no relief, and absolutely no offer of any assistance from your office. Finally, today, on June 10 I called the office on her behalf asking for any type of assistance for her. The nurse I spoke to informed me again, that she was not able to assist her because she didn't live close to Bloomington. She did tell me that it was probably an infection and said "not to scare me" but that the infection could likely go to her throat, but she refused to offer a prescription without seeing her. After she told me multiple times she could not do anything for her, I hung up, and proceeded to locate an oral surgeon in Council Bluffs Iowa, who agreed to see her today. The Council Bluff office asked me for her file, so I called back to your office. Your nurse (the same one I talked to previously) was extremely curt with me. She told me that she was going to call the Council Bluffs office herself and tell them "what was going on" with her case. When she said that I was concerned that she was going to call and relay her prejudices based on our conversation, she hung up on me. I called back and explained this conversation to your office manager, and now to you. The Council Bluffs Oral Surgeon saw her at 11:40 a.m. today. She had calcifications built up in her incision, which had to be re-opened, and removed, and the oral surgeon told me that if they hadn't done this additional surgery, she would have continued to have pain. I am deeply disappointed in the lack of professionalism, and frankly, the dismissive attitude your post-op nurse had with my daughter, and with me. Assuming that she was not justified to be helped, and told to just bear the pain, is completely uncalled for. My daughter has been in pain for nearly a month,and was told to bear it. She was not offered any assistance to help her find a surgeon near her to see. When we talked at our initial consultation, I remember asking about post-op care and was told by you and your staff that these types of things could be dealt with over the phone. Clearly, we cannot receive any assistance or care when your staff immediately dismisses patients and their concerns. Had I not interjected today at the level that I did, she would have continued to be in pain. I have now incurred another $1,000 in expenses at another oral surgeon today for this issue. I am extremely frustrated with your office's lack of care, and very upset. I own a business myself, and I would want to know if one of my staff spoke to a customer of mine in this manner, and that is why I'm sending this note to you. My wife and I went here for years. Dr Ocheltree is the best. We stopped going here in early 2023. The business stopped taking our insurance that we get as part of retirement plan through being a career state employee. The "new way" it was set up (to the best of our knowledge) was that the patient pays up front for the procedure(s,) their office sends in the paperwork to our insurance company for settlement, then after payment is sent from insurance company to their office their office gets in touch with us again and settles the final bill (refund to us) with us. If anyone has ever saw a bill from a provider in this category, the bill is usually very very large before write-offs and insurance coverage. Bottom line is you would have to pay the bill at 100% then after all of the dust settles their office sends you back the difference. We simply could not take the financial hit plus have our money tied up for months. Aside from this new set of billing procedures the office does top notch work and treats patients with kindness. read more

Make you pay out of pocket for their services, and if you don't have a few thousand laying around they suggest opening a new credit card. Then, they send your bill to your insurance, collect the money from them, and then send the money to you? Which makes no sense considering you already have to pay out of pocket, so why are they collecting my insurance money? Instead of the insurance company paying me back directly? Also, a month out now and haven't seen a repayment check yet, we'll see. Other than the financial confusion and frustration, their wisdom teeth extraction service was great. I had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth taken out by Dr. Efaw, and I cannot speak highly enough of his work. It's day two post-op, and I have not even needed to touch the pain medication he gave me. The surgery was very quick, and I was sent home with ice packs and thorough care instructions. His staff at the front desk was always so kind, and the assistants made sure I was completely comfortable the whole time. When I felt nausea and discomfort after the surgery, they gave me additional IV medication without me even having to ask. It did take a while to get the pre-treatment estimate back from my insurance before we could go through with the procedure, but that's the case with Aetna anywhere. His staff did everything they were supposed to. It's a busy office, so if you're looking for some super personalized experience and long talks with the doctor, this isn't the place for you. But I never had to wait long, all my questions were answered by the doctor and staff, they were in-network with my insurance which meant huge savings, and Dr. Efaw did great! read more

The work they do is superior and we have no complaints about their services. It is their billing practices and the billing department inflexibility that are an issue. They want you to get a credit card called care credit. So you apply for the card, you select your payment terms that are comfortable for you. Well too bad, they change it to what they want when services are performed. One year and dont tell you they did. Read the billing papers before you walk out the door. If you mention it, then you are informed it is always 1 year. read more

I would not recommend going here. It took the office months to get information from my insurance on what was covered for my wisdom teeth extraction. I had to call them and they "forgot" to contact my insurance to get the info. Once they did get my coverage info, they told me I was covered 100%, except for the $50 copay. Now, three months later, they send me a bill saying I owe almost $500. What gives?? As for my actual procedure: It was fast. The nurses that set me up before and after my surgery were nice. The surgeon himself was a jerk. I felt like he rushed my consultation. And I only saw him for maybe a minute the day of the surgery before he put me under. He didn't come to talk to me after my procedure to tell me how it went or ask if i had any questions about recovery. read more

I had two extractions and three implants placed by this office, and would absolutely not recommend them to anyone who is considering having a procedure done. Run in the opposite direction, and avoid repeating the nightmare that has been my experience. Not only did the procedure done by this office fail, but they have shown a baffling failure to reply to any communication. It has been this level of unprofessionalism and disregard for their patient's pain that has made my experience with the office of Doran, Capodice, Efaw & Ocheltree so truly awful. Over the past few months I have been attempting to contact the office to find a resolution to the failed implants after consulting with two additional dentists after feeling pain at the sites, and both were surprised by the lack of quality in the work that was done at DCEO. Both of these dentists assured me that the issue was not with my dental health or hygiene, but with the placement, choice of hardware and lack of adequate bone graft at my surgery in Bloomington, despite DCEO clearing the surgery as a success immediately after placement. I was encouraged to reach out to Doran, Capodice, Efaw & Ocheltree by the consulting dentists, who couldn't believe an office would let a patient leave with work so poorly done. They assured me no good dentist would let something like this happen without at least trying to help, or fix the issue in some way. So I've tried calling DCEO many times- each time has resulted in someone from the front desk assuring me that I will be contacted after they review my information - which no one ever seems to. I went through all the appropriate channels based on the minimal contact they provided (they gave me an incorrect email address to forward information to. Twice.) but wasn't given the courtesy of a response when it was clear that something had gone wrong with their work. No return calls, and I only received confirmation that my emails were being received when, after weeks of nothing from them, I specifically asked to stay on the phone while the woman at the front desk checked the email and replied to ensure there was a means of communication open. Aside from that I have never been replied to, called back, or contacted by the Doran, Capodice, Efaw & Ocheltree office after my many attempts to reach out and see what could be done. I can't tell if my concerns and attempts to communicate weren't forwarded to anyone by the front desk, or if they were disregarded entirely without anyone choosing to speak with me about the issue. Their sole concern seems to be to get me off the phone as soon as I explain that I'm not a new patient looking to schedule an initial appointment. They have never sought additional information about their failed surgery, never asked after my wellbeing as a patient, or even provided the basic decency of a reply to me reaching out. In short, I have never had such an awful, stressful and overwhelmingly negative experience with any medical professional as I have here. To be ignored entirely by an office when an issue arose has never happened in my experience before now - and were it not for the confirmation that my emails and calls were being received and disregarded over the months of attempted contact I would have believed it was some kind of mistake. I now see that the only mistake was trusting this office with any medical procedure in the first place, and if I could go back and choose another office I absolutely would. If I were in your shoes and considering this office I would run in another direction, not only because of the incorrectly done surgery, poor communication and disregard for their patient's mental wellbeing but because of their choice to apparently ignore patients when something goes wrong. I didn't want to believe there were places like this, much less that I had gone to one, but at least voicing my terrible experience here can stop someone from making the same mistake. read more

I thought everyone in the office was absolutely great. Contact via phone made me a little uneasy as to how things were going to go but I'm anxious 99.9% of the time. My daughter had an 8:00a appointment which we arrived @ 7:45 for. Front staff was friendly and professional, billing staff was also absolutely professional and professional. Everything went extremely well. We did have what I would consider longer than average wait to discharge her. Daughter is feeling good and we're following Dr orders. Praying she doesn't get "dry socket." She returns to school Sunday and I definitely don't want my baby having any issues especially away from home. I went in to have 2 wisdom teeth (one impacted, one ruptured) and a cracked molar removed, now mind you I have never EVER been sedated/anesthetized or had any sort of surgery done. So you can imagine I was sweating bullets. I couldn't have imagined in my wildest dreams a procedure and recovery any easier than this!!!! The front office staff was great, even offering an idea of local businesses since I was an hour early. My consultation with Dr. Jack Capodice was perfect. He offered all treatments available and what his thoughts were. The anesthesiologist was a gag! She was friendly and seemed to know exactly what she was doing! The nursing staff all laughed and joked with me even though my heart was racing on the monitor. Dr. Capodice came in to join the fun and the next thing I knew I was done! Minimum pain and a whole goodie bag to help with recovery! I was pain free after 3 days with only minor stiffness and now I feel like a million bucks! Insurance was no problem and while the insurance rep had to come in while I was getting my IV put in to get a signature, she was friendly and covered everything I needed to know! As far as the negative reviews on here go, I had no problems and this was just last month. I had no complications and everyone was thoughtful, professional, and friendly. I felt in good hands! In a nutshell, this place is safe fast friendly and worked great with my insurance. I live about an hour away from the office, so those of you who are doing your research to find the best oral surgeon possible, I've done the hard part for you! This place is what you want. read more

If you have to have Oral surgery and cannot find another place to get it done, make sure you get Dr. Capodice. Two of our children had Dr. Capodice preform various surgeries one was when he was at his own practice. His bed side manner and explanations are fantastic. When making an appointment for our son the staff switched us when we were in the office for the appointment to Dr. Ochletree. First very unprofessional to not notify the customer of the change. They had lost the paperwork and when they did find it didn't even know what they were supposed to do. I would suggest staying away from Dr. Ocheltree, he not only placed a screw in my son's mouth incorrectly but after extracting a tooth they just walked him out to the waiting room still groggy from the sedative with no explanation from Dr. Ocheltree on if things went well or there were issues. We had to ask an assistant to come out to the waiting room to make sure everything was fine. Dr. Ocheltree has also preformed wisdom teeth removal on several friends and in both cases left some of the bone in there causing unnecessary pain and visits to Dentists to fix it. All this happen well before the pandemic. Also the staff's customer service is lacking. It may be asking too much to get call back in two days when trying to determine if a follow up appointment is in person or just sending in a picture of the teeth. Once you do send in the picture their response is if you don't hear from us everything is fine. We asked for a text or call back to confirm things were received and when we could take the next steps. However, that required another follow up on our part after waiting two days with no response. Again, Dr Capodice is great and his work impeccable, but it goes down very quickly from there with other doctors and customer service. read more

Got my wisdom teeth out here. Fast and friendly. I went in on a Monday and was able to schedule the surgery that same Friday. When I had a conflict, I called to reschedule and they pretty much gave me my choice of any day of the week. Long waits for appointments, it took more than 5 minutes of anesthesia to go to sleep, and the insurance situation is a nightmare (but it is everywhere with medical). But I've never had problems with their work, and I did not get dry socket. Minus one star for the long waits that seriously dragged on 45 minutes past appointment times on each of my 3 visits to this place. read more

I would love to give a zero star rating if I could! If you are new comer to this area looking for a dentist for your family, STAY AWAY! My 5 year old had his teeth extraction yesterday, can anyone believe there was NO ONE talked to us before the surgical procedure about the surgery, not even a nurse. I was told by a nurse to initial 1-12 on a piece of paper and sign on the bottom, no explanation at all! Child was send to the surgery room crying. After the surgery when I questioned about how many teeth was supposedly to extract, Dr Doran put his hands up said" I do not know anything about it" seriously? I got my wisdom teeth extracted and now have dry sockets. I was treated with the utmost disrespect when I went in to their office to inspect my sockets. While the nurse was filling my sockets (with wire and cloth, mind you) I was crying because it hurt! She told me that I needed to calm down so she didn't get bit. She had no regard for the pain I was in. Then when I asked the doctor to refill my prescription for pain medicine (which I was told the day before it would be refilled), he treated me like garbage. He said he would numb my face with Novocaine for the time being. I told him that I was deathly afraid of needles and that I had to go back to work. Numbing my face was not the answer. He then told me that I was refusing treatment and gave me a look like "Oh well!" I would not recommend this oral surgeon to anyone, and I feel bad because Dr. Ocheltree was great when he was actually performing the surgery. The aftercare is just horrendous. It's almost like they just don't care because they're not receiving any more money. Very very sad practice. read more
