Owner kicked me out all because I demanded respect. He's an arrogant fool. Horrible experience - after we spent 3 days and $700 to fix an overheating engine here the issue returned, yes we took longer than expected to identify it because the primary driver is 87 and has cancer, he hardly drives. When the engine started over heating and smoking on the Williamsburg bridge I freaked out and took it in. He was on the rude defensive from the beginning - an obvious sign of pride over intelligence. I've read some saying that they were treated rudely--very hard to believe. Fred is busy, and quick, but not rude. When I bring a car for inspection it gets done--no selling me stuff I don't need. My trustworthy mechanic of 15 years retired 2 years ago and I have been lost without them. I have been to a couple of mechanics since then for oil changes and minor repairs , but never really felt the kind of trust I had with my old mechanic, until I read reviews of Dorgler Auto repairs on Yelp. Their reviews talked about good customer service, honesty and fair prices and so I called and made an appointment with Fred and they were very busy, but gave me an appointment for the next day, even though they were busy that day as well. They called when they said they would and explained that my engine light came on as a possible fluke possibly resulting from the extreme heat we've been having and charged me very little considering they thoroughly checked everything over. Fred was respectful and explained everything in detail and was a real gentleman. I think I've found my new mechanic. read more

I was having trouble with my car. When I brought it to Dorglar, they were so attentive. The car problem had cleared up, but they kept it two days, did tests, did not charge me. It was fine for 3 weeks. Then I had a problem. When I brought it there, it stopped working so they could see the problem and repair it . It was a fuel pump relay which has to be non intermittent to be repaired. It finally stopped working completely.. They immediately fixed it at a very low price, called me immediately. Would highly recommend this family business that has been operating many years. read more

Fred at Dorgler is the best! Great work, reasonable prices, friendly service, what more could you want? I had an issue with my alignment on a 2005 Camry. Everyone I went to had no solution, parts of the alignment were built to not be adjustable by Toyota (thanks, Toyota!). Fred immediately knew of a certain kit that was used to compensate for the non adjustability (thanks again, Toyota). He installed a kit for $120 that solved my problem. No longer do I have $650 worth of tires wearing unevenly within 5,000 miles. Best buck twenty I've ever spent! On my way there now for some more work to both my cars. After 30 years going to another place (which started using really inferior parts to boost his bottom line), I have found my new mechanic! read more

Freddie & co at Dorgler are now my go-to mechanics. I drive over from the East Village to get my car worked on here. These guys are as honest and straightforward as it gets. Any questions I have about my 2003 Ford Taurus, big or small, Fred is happy to answer and explain until I understand. My car was overdue for inspection, but my battery died. The car wasn't ready for inspection because the dead battery had reset the sensors. I learned this from another mechanic, who suggested I drive a long drive to get the sensors ready for inspection again. Drove to Asbury Park, NJ and it still wasn't ready. This mechanic told me I needed to drive it further. Frustrated, I brought my car to Dorgler. Because it was the Friday of Easter weekend, they were closed for the next two days, but said they could hold my car for the weekend and work on it come Monday. They drove my car just right in order to reset all the sensors (the Taurus is notoriously fussy) and did my inspection, and replaced the alternator (the cause of the dead battery). Prices were completely reasonable for all the work they had to do. I only wish Dorgler were closer to the city, but then I don't because it would be super-crowded all the time. Met with Fred about two weeks ago and thank goodness that there is still a good honest mechanic out there. My experience initially started at the dealership. Went in to replace a faulty shift-selector for my Nissan that was covered under warranty. However, the mechanics there found other issues with the car and the total came up to $1200 plus. I said no thank you and took my car back. After researching many mechanics, I found Dorgler, and I am so happy I did. Fred told me a few of the repairs the dealership quoted me on are completely frivolous. The repairs I did need, such as new rotors, break pads, oil change, etc, were legitimate. I can honestly say Fred saved me more than half of what the thieving dealership wanted. On top of that Fred had my car ready the same day.
