Located in Sequoia National Park, probably 45 minutes from the main highway coming from 198. There is a entrance fee of $35 as of 7/15/18 to get into the park or you can buy the annual pass of $80 for unlimited visits. You must booked the campsite in advance through reserve America. I booked site 121 which is fairly large lot that comes with basics of bear box, picnic table, and parking lot. It also had additional or extra bear box if needed. This spot was right next to the bathroom, so that could be a good or bad thing. Plenty of trees for shade. The ranger who work there, was quite friendly and helpful! Tips + there is a small little area with water, near the entrance which is great for little kids. Plenty of trees and shade to hangout. + payphone located by the entrance. (No reception at all!) + maps and information on activities located at the front entrance. Overall, great camping experience! read more

We recently stayed for a week at Dorst Creek Campground and it was probably one of the best camping trips we've ever had. One thing to note, however, is that many of the sites are on hills and are uneven. We lucked out and picked a really flat site that was close to restrooms and a little further away from other campers and I think that made all the difference. The wildlife around the campground was incredible. We saw numerous bears (that didn't bother us at all) and too many deer to count. We also saw a resident yellow-bellied marmot that would sun itself on the same rock every day. Pretty cool. The campground is surrounded by thick forests and meadows abound within the campground. Each site has a large bear box that you need to use to store your food. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked and maintained. The trail to Muir Grove was an easy 2.5 mile hike from our campsite and was well worth it. There is shuttle service here to Lodgepole but we went when the shuttle wasn't running yet. There is also a large amphitheater, but again, there weren't any ranger programs when we were there. Overall, I would call Dorst Creek a "camper's campground." What I mean by that is that the majority of people there are well versed in camping etiquette. When 10:00 pm hits (the traditional campground start of "quiet hours"), the campground gets peacefully quiet. We have camped before in areas where people think camping is all about having a big "party" and they are loud and obnoxious until the wee hours of the morning. At Dorst we didn't have to deal with any of these types of people. We did hear a few car alarms (bears?) go off a few nights we were there, but nothing major. The one thing I would say is to try to scout out campsites if you can. Like I referred to before, there are what I would call A+ campsites and others that are more a C-. Do your homework before the trip and you won't be disappointed! read more

Beautiful campground located in Sequoia National Park. Restrooms were cleaned daily and running water was available. Picnic tables, fire pits and bear cabinets provided. We didn't see any bears during our visit but there are plenty of warning signs posted. We loved this site because it was near all the great places to visit but not in the center of all the hustle. We had a very relaxing time here and may return if we decide to revisit. Sequoia National Park is one of my favorites. We saw lots of deer meandering thru the campground at all times throughout the day. A nice little creek is located near the entrance to the campground. read more

I am just now getting to write a review but I came here in July for my boyfriend's birthday getaway. We had both never camped here before. We made reservations online, which was not difficult at all. When we got there we met nice park rangers & were shown where to go. The campsite was nice. Very nice location because there is options of stores. THE ONLY THING I HAVE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IS - Boyfriend & I took a nap in our tent and someone had stole our wood we bought. So do not leave items out. read more

Dorst Creek is a great campsite with flushing toilets, running water faucets, and potable water spigots but beware there are no showers. They are located at Lodgepole. Muir Grove trail to the grove of sequoia trees starts here from loop B. Wildlife is all around you too. Also, you are allowed to have campfires. Just remember to collect or to buy the local firewood as you don't want to bring in foreign parasites or fungi into the beautiful park. And there is plenty of dry wood around to burn. And don't forget to put out your fires before going to sleep! I saw a number of campers not following that basic rule. The only complaint about this site wasn't about the site itself but the people. Some idiot didn't know quiet hours begin at 10pm and was driving around the camp at 12am looking for an open campsite. But his crappy car had a crappy muffler waking up everyone. I just wish they had more rangers around or a gate to close up the camp. read more

Great campground. Gorgeous creeks running through that are perfect for small children to play in. One water spigot for the whole loop so we did a lot of trips to get water. The water was delicious of course. Sites 107 and 108 were great. Roomy and beautiful, though we did sleep on a bit of an incline. No cell service or wi-fi at all. We heard there was cell service at Grants Grove but we never went there so we didn't find out for sure. I had assumed there'd be cell service at Lodgepole but there was none, so.....great place to unplug! Lodgepole has everything you'd need: some camping gear, food, eggs, milk, etc.....Oh and I must add that we didn't see (or hear of) a single bear! read more

I have been coming to Sequoia since I was little, and every summer my family stays at Dorst campground. I love that it is more removed and less crowded than Lodgepole. The walk-in sites here are my favorite and there is always lots of wildlife roaming through camp. The campground has a few meadows and sometimes you can see bears there in the morning or evening. l recommend trying out the trail to Muir Grove.. it is a pretty easy trail and good for kids. The shuttle from Dorst to the rest of Sequoia is convenient and generally runs on time. The only issue I've had with it is during busy/holiday weekends when it can be tough to get the shuttle back to Dorst from Lodgepole. Camping here is something we look forward to every year. read more

First time ever going to Seqouia and we decided to try out this campground. Not bad, they have clean restrooms, no showers, lots of wild life roaming in the campground, some nice meadows and a nice creek close by. The only thing I can complain about is that they don't have a lot of flat surfaces so if you're tent camping you might be sleep on a down hill. read more

I absolutely loved our campsite. All the sites are different some with more shade than others, but our site was by itself with no neighbors and had plenty of shade. I only wish there was a shower in campground but we can not always have it all. read more

We always go to Dorest Creek for Our annual family camping vacation.... love it!!! Lots of wildlife all tho we didn't see any bears this year, all the deer were incredible, too man to count. Rangers were very friendly and informative. I can't wait till next year. read more

Dorst Creek is an amazing campground. Great location with in the park and lots of areas to explore. The campground was clean and so were the bathrooms...a serious plus! Toilets flushed (yay), and they did have water and water spigots, just no showers. Only recommendation about evening potty breaks is to bring a flashlight, because there are not any lights in the restroom. We stayed in Loop A, Site 12, which was perfect for tent camping. We had a larger driveway so we were able to park 3 cars instead of just the allotted 2 (we okayed that with the park ranger). The spots in the outter ring of the loop were very spacious. The inside ring was a little more congested...but ultimately I think it was because those are the better spots for campers. Site was on a small incline but more level toward the back. Picnic table you would pick up and relocate...I like that much better than thr campsites that chain them down. Also the bonfire pit had an adjustable grilling grate over it which was nice too. Lastly, lots of super friendly wildlife. We had 3 deer hanging out with us in our site both nights! Would definitely stay again! read more

Dorst Creek Campground is fairly convenient to major sights in Sequoia National Park. It's located about 20 minutes from Lodgepole, where you can catch a shuttle to Sherman Tree, Giant Forest, Moro Rock etc. There is also a shuttle from the campground to Lodgepole, but we didn't use it. I am giving it an average rating because the sites are uncomfortably small and many were on an incline. We were in 142 which was one of the better spots as it only had one direct neighbor, but that neighbor had such a small space that they really didn't have room for more than a 2-person tent and had to put it really close to our site. Most spaces were like that, I observed. Do your research and look at campsite photos before booking. This campground had flush toilets, but only one restroom in the loop with only 2 women's stalls, they clogged easily and were out of order half the time. No lights in the bathroom. Toilet paper is provided. This is bear country so you must put everything with a scent in the provided bear box. Quiet hours after 10pm were generally respected but we had a loud group of guys across the way on Saturday night until after 11. Gathering wood is allowed and even encouraged. Lots of downed trees around and their bark burns well. Overall I recommend this campground as long as you can manage to get a site with enough room. read more

Was a beautiful camping trip. Just remember to bring a lot of off mosquito spray. Make sure you use it we were there from June 25 through June 28. They did not have any running water due to a pipe broken during the winter but on the day we left they had it fixed. We are a motorhome so we were ok felt sorry for the tent campers. I highly recommend using the bus service was great saw so much. We towed our vehicle so we were able to go to the crystal caves. Beautiful. Make sure you are in good walking shape and I highly recommend long sleeve shirt and long pants. So much poison oak near the path. Have fun and explore we saw no bears but we had the deer come by our site read more

It was my first time visiting sequoia national park and this was a spur a of the moment thing so we were left with just a few days to find a camp that had open reservations. I looked online and was overwhelmed with how many campgrounds there were and certain rules such as no bonfires. I finally called the national parks recreation and right away they helped assist me the bonus part was I booked the weekdays before labor day and we had absolute privacy there were a few campers in the back but not crowded. The bathroom has no soap just water and normal flushing toilet seats. We left on Saturday and oh boy was there a line up of cars checking in to the campground. I'm very pleased with my stay here we didn't see no bears but do believe one did come near our tent one night in the wee hours. Nothing was damaged just heard bear claws then our metal food storage made a noise right after. read more

Absolutely one of the nicer campground in the park. Clean, with lots of amenities. Some spots are much better than others. The rangers are super nice. We stayed in spot #14 with with 26ft trailer. It was perfect. This campground is centrally located to most of the popular sights. Would definitely stay again! read more

Best Camping trip ever! My husband and I went for a romantic camping trip, we stayed for 2 nights at Dorst Creek Campground, site 100. It was perfect for 2 people, very roomy for tent, had car space, fire ring, bear box "personal storage unit" and a picnic table. Loved every moment! it was close to 2 "flushing" bathrooms, that were clean. The Rangers patrol very frequent, which was a plus for safety and security, there seemed to be many rangers and were so friendly and helpful! We saw calm and peaceful deer go through the campsites and chipmunks. Down the road we actually saw a black bear, but it wasn't interested in anything but the wood it was scratching for grub. (Please read up about black bears, not as scary as they sound) The 1st night we were in between 2 pretty calm camp neighbors, one set was 20 years olds that started playing heavy metal, but we asked them to turn it down and never had another issue, the other neighbor was a peaceful older couple. The 2nd night we had the calm 20 year olds again and then 4 about 24 year old military men, they were happy and friendly, laughed all night which was nice but became annoying. But how can you tell someone who's laughing loud to turn it down? So at least all decent good natured people for sure. We may ask for an even more private location without neighbors, but it was nice to look over and smile or even be nosy and see what they are up to, or watch how they fuss with their tent and fire, just like us:) There are showers at Lodgepole, laundry, grocery store, giftshop, and fast-food and deli sandwiches. Overall, Great and Best camping trip Ever, I loved every moment! I can't wait to go back and enjoy it all again. Dorst Creek Top of my list. read more

Amazing campsite. We had a secluded spot all to our selves. No reservations - we came up on Saturday morning, and they had multiple to choose from. Our site had a bear box, a fire ring, and even had a pile of firewood that someone had left, so we didn't even need to buy any or gather our own! The bathrooms were cleaned, stocked, and conveniently located. It's quiet, tranquil, and exactly what we were looking for. The proximity to Lodgepole, as well as General Sherman and the Giant Forest, is extremely convenient. The wildlife surrounding us was incredible. We had a couple of deer hovering near our tent during our stay. We didn't see any bears at Dorst (although my girlfriend saw one a few miles away in a meadow on our drive to see General Sherman!). Overall, I give this place two solid thumbs up. We would definitely stay here again! Highly recommended! A+++++ read more

I love camping and I especially love camping in the sequoias! I first camped here about 15 years ago and I have continued coming back with eagerness. The campground is in a beautiful location with great access to trails and the possibility of seeing local wildlife. Keep a keen eye out bears & deer are your quiet neighbors here. Personally though I recommend choosing a site away from the front/main part of the campground as that is where most of the traffic comes and goes, the back and loop sections off the "main road" tend to have less passers by and more privacy. read more

I grew up camping in sequoia and this is the campground my family always chose. More trees and more of a forest feel compared to lodgepole. The bathrooms here were much cleaner than lodgepole as well. read more

I stayed here over a year ago. The campground was nice and clean. It was quiet for the most part. We didn't care much for our site. It was near the parking lot and it was small and hilly. That means our inflatable mattress kept moving. Other then that is was nice. Bathrooms are clean but old and don't forget to take a flashlight or lantern with you when you go to the restroom at night, there is no lights in the bathroom. There is also plenty of trees surrounding you as well! There are no showers there so you have to go to lodgepole, which is a little bit of a drive. read more

This has to be the better of the campgrounds in the National Park. Especially compared to the lower ones at Buckeye and Potwisha. We had a reservation at Buckeye but made it a day early to the park so ended up cancelling it and finding a first come first serve at Dorst. It makes much more since for doing activities in the park and seeing the popular sites since it is much closer to the main atttactions and to Kong's Canyon (which we didn't plan on going to until we saw how close it was). Buckeye and Potwish are so far away at the bottom of the park. This is a better choice. We showed up at 845 on a Saturday and found a spot. There were many although it is late September. This was a great location way up in elevation. Camp sites were little small but most have a close restroom with flushable toilets and water to wash dishes, etc..Also I loved that we drove through the giant sequoia forest to get there:) read more

We usually stayed at Lodgepole but we all wanted to try another Campground so we stayed at Dorst Creek Campground. The drive is a bit far and it is very hidden. We almost missed the entrance so make sure to look for the sign on the left side. This Campground is HUGE! And very private. We stayed at site 10 and 12. Perfect for big families. It's next to the meadow so we saw many deer. Close to the ranger station and bathroom. This is my dad's favorite Campground to stay at sequoia. read more
