Not knowing what to expect, I can happily say that joining the Plum Blossom family and learning Tai Chi was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. I had always been an active person, but for medical reasons I had to change my exercise and fitness routines and my overall mindset as to how I could continue being fit and active and improve my overall mental and physical health. Tai Chi has been challenging, enjoyable, more physically demanding than I anticipated and exactly what I was looking for and needed. Learning Tai Chi at Plum Blossom has helped me with relaxation, stress management, fitness and muscle retention, balance, coordination, flexibility, being mindful and my ability to focus / concentrate. The instructors at Plum Blossom are excellent. They are very knowledgeable, supportive, caring, committed, attentive and patient. The facility is clean and comfortable with sufficient room to accommodate tai chi students of different levels. The instructors provide a motivating and respectful environment in which to train and learn. Tai Chi is a lifelong learning pursuit and it's something I can practice at home or when traveling and with no need for specialized equipment. I had always wanted to learn a martial art, but didn't have the time nor had I discovered a discipline that fit my health needs. That is, until I found this gem of a place. I really wanted to find a school that offered a parents and children's class.I always wanted to find a place to train alongside my children and be in a positive friendly and disciplined environment, while learning martial arts. Was driving home and saw the sign advertising this local establishment. I signed up after watching only one class. We have been there one year and I find the instructors friendlyand knowledgeable. The facilities are top notch and super clean, which I may see that it is a bit of a hobbyhorse for me. I did not want to work out in a grungy gym with unkept and dirty equipment in brutal shape. This place is well-kept and a pleasure to attend. Everyone's take on the specific peoplein an environment may differ. Your mileage may vary on this point I am sure. But I will say that the instructional staff is nothing but professional. I honestly can't see anything bad about the programming or the quality of instruction here. This school has been around for a long time and the maturity level of the instructors really shines through. I must make a specialnote to one of the chief instructors, sifu Les McWha. I love training with this guy! Dynamic, funny and knowledgeable. He is, admittedly, quite tough when it comes to teaching, but much appreciated by my children. This isn't your average boxing club or workout space. There are classes in the morning, around lunch and around supper time with open gym times for you to work out half an hour before and after classes. There is no way not to get in shape because there's no way to slack in classes. They have spin, boxing and other classes taught by trainers in a group setting to maximize your workout. No one here will even have time to look at their phone because no one brings them out. Don't worry about what you look like or your fitness level because people here are only worried about themselves and their own fitness which makes this a safe space for people of all abilities to work out. No gimmicks here, just seriously hard workouts with motivating trainers. It's in the basement of an old warehouse and the spin class is upstairs so this venue is not accessible. Awesome volunteer staff and all membership fees go toward a transition home that's attached called Pan Am Place. Get your butt down here!
