We. love. this. place. I'd heard about Double Tap from a coworker, so we checked the place out while some friends were visiting from out-of-town. We visited on a Sunday, just after opening. There was a mix of people in Double Tap. Young kids to adults (65+). We quickly realized it was family day, which may be why we had such a chill experience. Can't speak to what the vibe is like during the week or on Friday/Saturday nights. Lemme just say, if I were a college student I'd quickly go broke patronizing this place. There were a couple of college aged guys working who were super friendly and welcomed us when we walked in. The bartender informed us of specials, etc. We ordered a pizza (surprisingly really good) and a few of us had some beers. We exchanged several $5 bills for tokens and proceeded to spend the next 3 hours here. My favorites were Skee-Ball, all the pinball machines (especially the Stranger Things themed machine), and the 4-player Pac Mac game. We also blew way too much money on the claw game (but did have one win!) I think 3 hours was probably too long to spend here, but I suppose it depends on the company you take with you, who else is there, and whether you have to wait around to play the games. Pros: good variety of games and beer, friendly staff, clean restrooms A couple of cons: one of the token machines wasn't working and several of the arcade games were down. I'm sure it's a challenge to keep all of them in operable condition and to find someone to service them. If you have a young family, plan to visit only on Sunday. Even though we don't have kids, I think I'd prefer to stick to this day of the week given we had a positive experience the first time. Recommend.

Ok, I will second the sentiment of the Yelpers before me. Double Tap Beercade *should* be more kid (and under-21) friendly. We checked it out one random weekend in the summer and realized my eight and six year olds were not able to come in. THAT BEING SAID, we did see that if we came on Sunday-- they'd be welcomed with open arms. Yep, family-friendly on Sundays only. So we brought the kiddos at noon on a Sunday and boy did they have a blast. There are around fifty games (that they apparently rotate) -- I adored watching them play TMNT, Pac Man, Buck Hunter, Stranger Things Pinball, Xmen, Skeeball and so many more. They have some interesting pizza selections: crab rangoon, jalapeño popper and spinach artichoke. With small ($6) and medium ($12) options. (You can also create your own, more typical, 'za alacarte.) Taps galore. Both behind the bar and on the ceiling. So 1) I do enjoy their beer selection and 2) their ambiance is dope. It dimly lit, lots of gamer decor and taps everywhere! Super on theme. The closest parking would be the Capitol or Dubuque ramps-- first hour for free, $1 after. Ok, as is. This review is really closer to a 3.5. But I really hope they can turn it around, seeing as it is on the newer side. - My kiddos pizza wasn't super well executed (burned). - A lot of the machines ate our money. - There were only a handful of us there but the staff wasn't super attentive. - And with that, there were deals going on that were never communicated to us. (Uh, $3 screwdriver and $4 skeeball? Yes please!) Overall, I welcome Double Tap Beercade to IC and can't wait to play guitar hero there, the next time I go! Come bring your kiddos on Sunday and keep an eye out on their social media for updates, since their website isn't super localized or friendly.

I visit this place regularly and every time is an awesome experience for me and my friends. They have a big variety of games and it is fun for everyone. Lots of beers on tap, video game inspired cocktails, and good food.

The old school arcade games are amazing, the drinks and food are good. Just a fun place to go with family, friends or both!

Every single thing we ordered felt fresh, thoughtful, and just really well done. My kids were obsessed with the chocolate chip pancakes (which says a lot), and my dad and I worked our way through a few different dishes. The biscuits and gravy were comforting and rich without being too heavy, and even the simple eggs were cooked perfectly. But the standout? The breakfast tacos. They were insane. The pork was seasoned perfectly, super flavorful without being overwhelming, and everything just worked together so well. Also, do not skip the fresh squeezed orange juice or the local sourdough with homemade preserves. You can taste the difference. It's one of those places where you can tell they really care about the ingredients. Service was warm and easy, and the vibe just makes you want to sit and stay a while. We'll 100% be back if we're ever in Iowa City again!

Definitely one of the coolest places in Iowa City to hang out with all the college kids and wild partying folks. The one problem that we had with the Fieldhouse was violence! There were some absolute punks trying to make trouble because there was the beauty queen of the century dressed like a glamour model (swoon swoon swoon), and she was with a guy that looked like a short Latin Prizefighter (as in, a mismatch to superficial types, she was a foot taller than him) and these very aggressive tall punks apparently thought she was too good for him so they tried to start a fight by touching her and making inappropriate comments and insulting her boyfriend. So I had to come in between them and I got smacked for my trouble. I helped to prevent a really bad fight and then the police showed up and they tried to arrest both the punks and the boyfriend and the hot girlfriend. So I had to explain to the police that I had no relation to any of the people in the fight and that there were really only one set of instigators and the other ones were just trying to defend themselves. And that she was molested. In the end I managed to talk everyone down with the help of my good friend the police officer and nobody got arrested but it was some really messed up stuff. The cop was either going to arrest everyone, or nobody. So it was better for everybody that nobody get arrested. You're welcome, cutie and cutie's bf. Call me. But yeah, the crowd in here - insane. Wall to wall, sea of people, like sardines. Loud and crazy. Sometimes even playing good music. Sometimes.

What I mean by that is, it does not look like a Mexican restaurant. But it EXCELS at Mexican cuisine. I highly recommend ordering anything you'd see at a Mexican restaurant. The drinks: The Blueberry Fields drink was good but pricey given the size and wasn't "blueberry" enough for my husband. I liked it, but I'd want it by the mason jar, and that would be super expensive. I had the hibiscus margarita and it was *very* enjoyable. The food: My husband had the Des Moines Po' Boy. I wish he would have realized that he was basically getting a sub. He liked the soft bread. Overall though, he wasn't impressed. He said it was kind of bland. But he loved the fries and ranch. I had the puerco en salsa verde--this dish is incredible! Really tender chunks of pork in a rich tomatillo salsa verde with beans and rice. The only thing that could be better is if there were 3 fresh corn tortillas instead of 2. There is so much rich, delicious, saucy pork to eat, that you need 3 to enjoy it all. The tortillas are fresh made too. So yummy! In summary: Go here and enjoy all the Mexican dishes!

The interior is quaint, cozy, and clean. Lighting and bits of stained glass create the feeling you're in a spot directly influenced by Iowa City's famous statue. The menu is somewhat unexpected. The Black Angel serves up Mexican food and all-day breakfast fare. I ordered the Chorizo and Eggs, which came with two flour tortillas and a cup of black beans. My boyfriend ordered a similar item and we both agreed the black beans had a liquified consistency. (Was this unconventional preparation the work of the Black Angel herself...?) My breakfast tacos were delicious and I had no complaints on that end. I also enjoyed a margarita which was on happy hour special (half-off). It was a generous serving size and decently strong yet drinkable. Our waitress was attentive, fetching our drinks and food in snappy time. She also checked on us after being served to make sure all was well and we weren't having any Black Angel-inspired bad luck with our dining experience. I recommend you spread your wings and check out this local eatery. It pairs well with a visit to the cemetery, too!
